This has somewhat to do with abortion, as many pro-lifers believe that embryos are human beings/persons. I would also like to see the opinions of fellow pro-choicers on this matter.

Recently, Bush vetoed a Bill that would help fund Stem-Cell research. He did so saying that it “crossed moral boundaries.” Another argument that was made in front of Congress, was that the embryos could be adopted. However, the cells being used for research have been donated and will most likely end up being incinerated if not used for research. One of the top arguments for the research was the fact that the research can help those with serious physical disabilities. The research is also contributed to helping females become pregnant (in-vitro).

How do you feel about the Veto?
Should people be allowed to adopt embryos when there are so many children who need homes?
Would it be the lesser of two evils to use the cells to help promote health in others, rather than burn them?

The veto was idiotic plain and simple. This isn't really a pro-choice pro-life debate as support for stem cell research crosses those typically boundaries. This will very much hurt the republicans come november. Left alone these embryos would just be discarded, why not use them. I would understand not making embryos for the purpose of testing, but when its just going to waste there is really no point.

These people always talk about the "potential" of the stem cells - that, if adopted, they may grow up to cure cancer or some such.

Yet it is these same people who take away that potential. If used in research, these stem cells might legitimately achieve their potential of helping to cure cancer (or any number of other diseases and disabilities).

These are single cells. These are not thinking, breathing, feeling human beings. These are just single cells. And when I look at my good friend who has to spend every fourth year of his life confined to wheelchair and undergoing surgery that is extremely painful, and when I think that sacrificing these single cells might save his life and mean that he never has to go through this torture again, I can't help but wonder where Bush's heart is.

Bush's people are suffering under a whole range of diseases, from MS, to Parkinson's, to paralysis, to burns, to diabetes, to strokes, and so forth that this sacrifice of a single cells (that will, for the most part, simply be incinerated anyway) could help to cure. He is not looking out for the best interests of his people. Bush is just trying to turn the US into his own personal JesusLand (his version of it, anyway). He has directly gone against the constitution many times and this is just final proof that he doesn't give a damn about anyone but himself.

Well said!

This whole Stem-cell research thing is ridiculous...I'm not entirely extreme about it, but I do support it. I don't see how it could do any harm to people, other than trying to save them from countless diseases. Not to mention, it's just a plain old interesting field, I'd say.

Bush seems to be a decent man, but not the right man to lead the US. He's violating countless rights, and doing as he pleases, leading us by church, rather than state as he should be. Banning gay marriage, trying to ban abortion, and now this stem-cell veto...He's really only bringing us down.

Bush is off his rocker. How can all those embryos be adopted out? Not many people are willing to adopt these embryos it looks like, thus meaning these embryos will never grow up to be children.

But like Kukushka said, why not let them be used for cancer research so that they will live up to that potential Bush seems to think all embryos have?

I don't know how it works in America, but in Britain the embryos being used for stem cell research are not viable; there is little to no chance that they would ever develop beyond a few cells. Only the best embryos are implanted into the womb during IVF, only those MOST likely to continue developing... and even then the failure rate seems to be quite catatstrophic.

The embryos have NO potential. They will never and could never become even a fetus.

Stupid move. Bush needs to read the US Code.

Of course, if he did, he'd be parading about that same-sex marriage isn't allowed.
