Please tell me I'm not the only one who saw that series. It was so weird. And so cool. The only Doctor as good as THE Doctor who isn't actually called Doctor Who but just happens to be in that show...
But Doctor Snuggles wasn't that Doctor he was another Doctor. And he built weird inventions and had a pogo stick in his umbrella. And his best friend was a badger. And a lady who lived in a teapot. I think.
God I haven't watched it for ages... But I'm pretty sure Douglas Adams wrote a couple of episodes for it. Anyone remember it? Anyone?

I've seen a lot of classic 80's cartoons, but Dr. Snuggles is not one of them. It apparently did show in the U.S. at one point:
Doctor Snuggles was Dutch in origin, but seemed to be British influenced. The show had only thirteen episodes to its credit and aired briefly on Nickelodeon sometime around 1988. Doctor Snuggles seems to be one of the least remembered cartoon shows of the 1980s. It aired on Nick at 11:00 am EST very briefly, probably because there were only 13 episodes made. It still airs in some parts of the world in syndication, and there have also been picture books of Dr. Snuggles.
I wonder if Warnersister knows this one. She's an expert when it comes to old cartoons...

Well, if it helps anyone here is a picture of the man himself: And they have an official website too! http://www.doctorsnuggles.com/I'm not sure how seriously they take it. Especially on the FAQ page (Snuggles Land Theme Park?) confused . I never realised it was one of the least remembered cartoon shows of the 80s... I mean it wasn't stunningly gobsmackingly fantastic but it was pretty well done. It was actually interesting. Mind you there are a lot of shows I used to watch that have disappeared. I think it was ITV used to do this kids hour thing where they'd show a bunch of shows that were about ten or twenty minutes long... Like Ivor The Engine. And Noggin The Nog. And Will O' The Wisp. Sheesh there seems to be a trend in these names...

Does Dr. Snuggles have a hat? He looks a lot like Doctor Pill from the classic Sunday comic page series "Little Nemo in Slumberland"!

I should write a Doctor Who/Doctor Snuggles cross-over and then, if enough people like it, then maybe they'll start searching for episodes to watch and they'll find/encourage other fans who'll also start looking for episodes and the network will grow and grow and grow...
Then the creator guy won't have to sound so bitter on his website and he won't have an empty chat forum page. And they might make some more episodes!

I remember that episode you have on tape, I think... The river stopped flowing, because it was afraid it would disappear if it went into the sea, and there was a gap in the sea where the river should be...
...it was pretty good.

I vaguely remember it, but it seemed rather sacharrine to me. I was far too busy watching The Trapdoor smile
And the complete Willo the Wisp is out on DVD, I think. All praise to Kenneth Williams. Evil Edna used to creep me out...

Sacharrine. Aspertame. None of the artificial sweetners could cover how sugary Doctor Snuggles was. But I liked it because although it was a sickly sweet cartoon full of very very well-behaved/intentioned people it also had some bizarre ideas in it. Like watching The Yellow Submarine as a TV series instead of a Beatles tribute.
