Why do you think that adults are confussed on children's music, games, clothes, feelings, ETC...? I think once they get children they totally forget how it feels to be a teen... stressed

I don't think most parents really "forget" what it was like for them to be a teen. I think that because they are SO concerned with the safety and well-being of their kids, and because they want more for their kids than they had and they don't want you to suffer through the same trials they had to...that they sometimes allow all that to cloud their judgement. What ends up happening is that they can seem over-protective and at times over-bearing and unwilling to understand or change.
I plan to be a parent sometime within the next 9 years. I've had a unique point of view because not only did I experience my own childhood, but I helped raise my brother, then volunteered to help other young kids. All the while, I've also been around adults (mostly in the workplace) who have kids of their own.
So I think that kids do need, I mean really need, to have their own experiences and learn things themselves. They'll have to have their own musical taste and fashion sense, and they have to build up their own tolerance for pain, disappointment and all the other things in life that suck. Also, they will have to find things that bring them happiness, and parents should accept (but not necessarily endorse) these things.
Sure, my little speech isn't going to change your parents, but maybe I gave you a different point of view to look at. wink

Ookathing Why do you think that adults are confussed on children's music, games, clothes, feelings, ETC...? Food for thought: Do you think that you're going to like the music your kids listen to?? (Or the kids who grow up around the same era your kids would.) Do you think you're going to like the fashion and entertainment?? It's really no surprise if your parents don't like or care to understand your music, etc. Hopefully they try to comprehend your feelings, but if it seems like they don't, try to think of things from their prospective. Perhaps they have some real s**t going down in their personal lives that takes their concentration away from the feelings of their kids. That might seem greedy of them, but, mrgh, they're people too. Imperfect, sometimes blind to what's right in front of them, humans--just like the rest of us.

Wow, I'm kinda glad this convo actually happened, but If I was to have a child I'd let him or her learn what it's like to live but still keep them away from the unsafe things so I know where your coming from...I understand why parents act the way they do but I feel that if you over portect they won't know what's really out there cuz my parents do that to me... a little to much... sweatdrop
