It wasn't my first, but it is my best (my first was violin and I'm still horrible at it...that's what I think, anyway).

I play Piano by ear, and have made it my main instrument right now, but I'm also learning how to play the harp (teaching self), Guitar (same), Bass (same), and Harmonica (I want a blues harmonica. Mine only has major chords ><)

Definitely the first instrument; probably the best, but it is arguable. I've been taking lessons for about 15 years now, and I'm going to take my grade 10 RCM exam soon! sweatdrop Yikes!

wow. have fun with that. Are you planning to do your teaching degree too?

Piano is both my first (besides pots and pans) instrument, and definetly my best. I'm gearing up for my grade eight..I can play at a 9/10 level, except my technique is years behind.

I think (?) it was my first instrument. It's been so long. As far as best...probably not, probably 8th or 9th best instrument.

Piano was my first instrument and I'm still pretty decent at it, but the saxophone is my main instrument now. 3nodding

Piano ROXXORS MY .... whatever... I play piano... I'm currently a freshman... I've been playing for about 8 years.... OMG!!! TODAY IS MY 8TH ANNIVERSARY!!! (of playing piano that is)... It's certainly arguable whether piano is my best instrument or not... I have to say that I'm closer to being as good as humanly possible at the tuba than at the piano... But as far as jazz goes... I think I'm best at trumpet... For classical, on-the-page stuff, I'm definitely better at piano... I do classical and video game themes for piano mainly now... I'll start doing jazz next year...

Ya, I like teaching. Especially early teens to adults. I have a lot to learn about teaching, tho....

Grades as in the exams you do. I don't know what they call it in the States, but in Australia we have the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) and we do our exams through them. You have separate grades for instruments that are completely separated from your school year level (otherwise I'd be able to play 11th grade on the piano...how cool would that be?). There's a girl in my music class doing 8th grade at the moment, but I've never done exams...not enough time in my life at the moment. But I'm at grade 3 for theory and I think I'd be a 2/3 for piano (I've only had lessons for two years...two separate years).

No idea. You might want to ask someone from America. I suppose I could look it up though...

Have you heard of the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM)? Just because you've been playing 8 years doesn't mean you can start at a high level. Maybe you haven't really advanced, but have been playing for leasure. If this isn't the case, though, you could probably go into grade 5 or maybe 6....you need to get a teacher...if you're serious about it, cuz it's a lot of work.
