I've been taking tri-cyclin 28 day for about 3 years now. Lately I've been forgetting about once a month, so I will fall a day behind on my pills and then continue to take them on a regular basis, only one day behind. So they are still pretty much being taken on a good schedule; however, lately I've been spotting a lot and that never happens to me. The spotting is occuring 2-3 weeks BEFORE my period is due.
Could this mean my pill is less effective now? My mom says that could be the case, but I'd like other people's opinions who may have gone through something similar ... Is this happening because I am a day behind in pills? I'm not too worried about this, but yeah if it continues I'll probably switch to a different birth control or at least a higher dose or something.

I took Ortho Tri-cycln last year. And every once in a while I'd miss a dose, but I'd get right back on top of it. But I dealt with spotting too, it says on the package that its one of the side effects. Even the doctor who prescribed it to me said that spotting was normal whether or not you miss a dose.
In my opinion, its not something to worry about, but if you are worried about it nothing anyone else is going to say will make you feel better until you talk to a doctor. But I think you're okay.

I would be more inclined to think it's not so much that it's the effectiveness, but more the not taking it on time everytime. But when in doubt, it certainly can't hurt to bring up your concerns with your doc. 3nodding

If you miss a day you are suppose to double up. That means take the one you missed and the correct one at the same time. As for spotting that is usually normal BUT remember you can always call your a Gynacologist and ask over the phone or Planned Parenthood and they will assist you. Don't guess or assume
