Inspired by the book cover thread, I intend to be very honest here, and say what i truly think of the romance I love to read and collect, they're great because they're rediculous.

This is not a discussion for Jane Austen and Princess Bride diehards and serious readers, but rather for those who keep their stack of Avon and Harlequin books stacked high in the backs of their closets, under their beds, or on display for the world to see.

There's a time to appreciate timeless romance, and a time to giggle over Fabio's spandex britches and oiled chest or the words "Iron hot manhood" and "sweet silken woman's flower".

Basically i'm hoping to invite some lighter discussion on the worst (re: best?) of your romance novel experiences. Did you buy a book because you thought a Victorian Gentleman X Gypsy Vixen would make a sexy pair? Did you read a Historical Novel where the author decided to make King James of england Gay? Do you scour free book bins and community shelves for the most absurd summaries you can find?

OK, I admit it...I bought a book once because the summary had the word 'bondage' in it. I thought to myself it would be much kinkier than usual and I had to have it.

And another book I bought just recently(I blame the book cover thread blaugh ) of a guy in a loincloth that looked like a pair of furry daisy dukes. It's great, I laught out loud in the store when I saw it.

I don't know if this is what you had in mind but I read the 12th Cynster novel just because I was fond of the series in the beginning but the novel was all instant lust with droping corsets and petticoats that it was ridiculous!

it does sort of frustrate me when they get too quickly to the sex..i totally prefer heavy sexual tension.

i left my romance novel collection with a friend wile i was in france. I would like to get them back soon so i can go over the best of them. Unfotunately, one of the best i ever had stayed in france where i found it.

it was called 'pirate's booty'.

I don't really think I've ever read a romance with a ridiculous plot on purpose. I mean, some of them have turned out to be just stupid. Like this one Connie Mason book I read. Something about a Knight.

I finished it just because I'd spent six bucks on it and it was like a train wreck-- I couldn't look away! gonk

They are like train wreacks sometimes. Dont know how many times i've spent a whole six dollars on a romance novel though. I get a lot of them from free book bins, thrift stores and community shelves.

I can never find the books I want in thrift stores and what not. All the ones I want to read are like newer.

thrifting is always sort of a gamble, but it's in places like those i find the most absurdly delightful things.

On a whim, i signed up for a book of the month club with the intention of receiving the two free books and then canceling before i was billed (dont look at my like that, i have no shame, you know).

Lo and behold this wonderous gem arrived in my mail box:

Yes, it IS a Nascar romance. LAWLS
I have no intention of reading it, XD. I'm not really a fan of contemporary romance anyway.

You know, I saw that book and I was absolutely fascinated by the absurdity of it.

I find it weird how NASCAR has penetrated the world at large. Even Mario Batali has a NASCAR cookbook.

SCARY.

Nee~, NASCAR's icky.
Personally, I bought a book because it mentioned S&W. It wasn't the first book of the series as I found out. But, I do love to giggle at the things like "iron hot manhood" and such. I especially giggled at "throbbing pole protruding from his pants." sweatdrop
