I've had a weird theory about Avatar bouncing around in my mind for awhile and I wanted to get it out. I've also been curious if others also had a strange Avatar theory they wanted to tell everyone so I decided to start this thread.
I just ask that you have reasons for why you think your theory is possible. I would like it if people didn't post random theories like "General Zhao will come back from the dead and go on a date with Toph" (which sounds wrong on so many levels...).
Anyway...
My weird theory is Katara is the next Avatar. What first led me to this is she learned how to waterbend on her own yet she was able to crack that huge icebreg in the first episode. It shows she has a strong power in her. Also, the teacher at the Northern Water Tribe commented on how fast Katara was learning and passing by his other students.
What sinks this theory is the fact that Aang is not dead. I don't know if it's possible but I wonder if the energy or role of the Avatar can transfer to others after a number of generations have passed rather than after the Avatar has died. If so, then a waterbender like Katara would be next in line.
I don't fully believe this will happen but I think it would be interesting if it did.
So feel free to post your weird theories and comment on others' (but please be respectful)

the Avatar status only goes to a newborn of the next nation in the cycle.

Yup I agree with a30993. It would be cool though if the next Avatar happens to be Katara's great-grand child or something whee

I think what is trying to be said is that.. Had Aang lived out his natural life and then died at an old age, Katara would have been born at the right place and right time to have become the next Avatar. Mage Negi points to her unsurpassed skill with her native element as a sign that maybe Katara was destined for great power, but this was interrupted by Aang not living his natural life out and getting stuck in the iceburg

Sucks to be Katara, if that's the case. xD Makes sense, in a way.

I don't think this is likely to happen but I can see it as being a slight possibility. I don't know if it would do anything to the story though. miaki nene!! *glomps* (mage negi) hi! Hello there. mrgreen So does anyone else have a weird Avatar theory they would like to share?

I think Zuko will get married to an Earth Kindom chick since he's going to Ba Seng Sei any ways. But that's not much of a thoery. Let me think... It's not much of a theory, I stole it from someone else, but it makes sense: Quote: Runty_Grunty Level 5 Caveman Lawyer 1. Ty Lee: Part Air Nomad? | 06/05/2006 7:30pm I'm betting a lot of people are thinking the same thing: does Ty Lee have Air Nomad blood in her veins? She does seem a lot like one of the Air Nomads: she has grey eyes, she's a lot slimmer than other Fire Nation girls, and she's care-free and agile. All of these are traits of the Air Nomads. Coincidence? I think not. If she is part Air Nomad, who do you think her ancestor is? I'm leaning toward Afiko the Betrayer from the TCG card, who aided the Fire Nation in the genocide of the Air Nomads. Since he was a loyal servant of the Fire Nation, he would be considered amongst the nobility, which would account for Ty Lee's noble standing. and if you think of it, makes sense. And I just BARELY noticed... While figuring out how to create her costume so I can cosplay as her for next year's Ani-Con and Comic Con (I'm also going as Katara) I realized... not only does she act like an airbender, and look like an airbender, and have the qualities shouting it... did anyone also notice that she dresses like one too? I am so slow...

emm.. im not too sure if i agree with Katara being the next avatar.. i think with her, its just that she was born with a very fierce, competitive, and determined nature, so it would only be expected that she would pass all the other students. But i am definantly!!! open to the idea of say, one of kataras children, or probably more likely, one of her grand children being the next avatar. It would be very fitting. 4laugh

Here's my theory. There is a secret organization of non-benders, who are dertermined to control the world. Apparently these people are important advisors to each to the nations' leaders: Fire Lord Ozai, the Water Tribe Chief, and the king of Ba Seng Sei.
That's all I got so far. sweatdrop Any help?
