 bounded quickly down to the lake. It had been so long since she'd last been there and she was rather upset at herself for not coming back sooner. She had promised someone she'd be there many nights before, but her owner was put in the hospital that night and she hoped that certain someone would understand.
She sighed in thought, however... What if he gave up on waiting...? Will I ever get to see him again? One thing was certain... Ever since Ky conked out and went into intensive care, she had been bugging Omi, Nanaki and Meli to let her go just for a little while... but the three of them couldn't handle the other 63 "children" that Ky owned on their own. They told her to stay at home, no matter how often she pestered. She did worry for her owner's well-being and wanted to help in any way, but she at least wanted to escape the 'pre-mature motherhood' for a moment to tell Charlie why she didn't show up until now...
The lake came into view and she took a deep breath. Well... There's only one way to find out...
Tangel took a step towards the lake. If he was there and still waiting, her blue and white figure would be seen easilly against the green grass.
But now she was nervous... What if he gave up waiting on me and now angry? What if he never talks to me again? She mentally cursed herself and sighed.
"If he was truly mad at me... I'll take it and hope he listens to my explanation... I've had to be strong for the little ones, so now it's time for me to be strong for myself.... right...?"

 A pair of headphones lay on a rock just on the edge of the lake. Beside them lay a beautifully carved harp, like the kind one saw in Greek etchings, though the style was more Celtic, and a small pack.
Charlie was down, exploring the lake bottom but he'd been down long enough and kicked off of the bottom, propelling himself toward the surface. Under the water, where the world was quiet, he was given time to think about things. About how he had changed, though if only a little. He was a little more friendly now and softer. And he still missed Tangel something awful.
His head broke the surface in the middle of the lake and he gasped in air before swimming towards shore. It wasn't until he'd reached the shore that he noticed her standing there.
"Tangel..." he whispered and his surprised look softened into a smile.

gave herself a soft sigh of relief amidst her worry. At least he was smiling at her. That was a good sign.
"Charlie... I..." She played with her fingertips a moment. "I'm sorry I didn't come sooner..." She prepared herself for him to grow upset. "I wanted to come the night following as I had promised, but..."
It was here she found her toes rather interesting and lowered her gaze to them as if she was ashamed of herself. "Kylin... My owner... When I got back that night... she... she was in the hospital... and I had to help watch the others. Most of them are still very young so I couldn't leave the island..." She bit her lip at this and rubbed her arm a bit.
Please believe me...? she thought to herself. She looked as if she was preparing for the absolute worst but nothing but truth radiated from her words.

Charlie heaved himself out of the water and walked towards her. He was white now, without his headphones on, but it didn't really matter all that much to him. He placed his paws on her shoulders, rubbing them slightly then put one paw under her chin, lifting it to look up at him.
"That's fine. I knew you would come if you could, though I admit I began to worry. Is Kylin well?" he asked softly, ignoring the fact that he was dripping from head to toe.

smiled softly at his touch. She felt better now, knowing that he wouldn't be mad at her made her feel much better.
Then Kylin came back. "She's.... fine... She finally woke back up the day before yesterday. And... she's blind... The doctor isn't sure if it's permanent or short term, but she should be ok now..." She sighed. She didn't care if he was wet, dry, white or black, she just clung onto him and purred faintly.
"I missed you so much..." she confessed almost abruptly. She didn't mind watching the 'children' as a way to help out, but now she was glad to just see Charlie again.

Charlie sighed and stroked her back, resting his forehead against hers.
"I've been driven mad with missing you," he chuckled and pulled back slightly, taking her paw.
"Here, I have some things I want to show you," he said, leading her over to the pile of his things. He slipped the headphones around his neck and sat down, pulling her down beside him.
"This is for you," he said, handing her a black velvet bag. Inside, was the necklace of pearls he'd made for her.

purred as she settled down beside him eagerly. She marveled silently over his things for a moment before gently taking the velvet back into her paws.
"What's this?" she asked innocently and looked to him briefly for the explanation, but gave him a mere second to reply before opening the bag in curiosity.
She tipped the contents of the small back into her hand and her eyes grew wide at the sight of the string of blue pearls. "Charlie! It's...!" she gasped in adoration. "They're beautiful! Do you make this?" she smiled, adoring each individual pearl, knowing immediately that they were true blue pearls.

"I did. It took me a week to find them all and even longer to properly string them together so that you can't even see the holes, but it was worth it, just to see the look on your face. Though, they're nothing compared to you," Charlie replied, matching her smile. He was so very glad to see her again, his tail waving back and forth showed that.
He reached over and picked up his lyre.
"I wrote a song for you, as well, if you'd like to hear it," he added.

eagerly draped the pearls about her neck and touched them softly in admiration. Her tail had been set on auto-run as well as she beamed then allowed her eyes to drift towards his lyre.
"You wrote me a song?" she half gasped. He was definately full of surprises. She clapped her hands together and smiled even brighter - almost like a child at Christmas. "Oh! I'd LOVE to hear it!" she purred and settled onto her knees to watch and listen.

Charlie smiled at her enthusiasm and began to strum out the tune. When he began, he'd closed his eyes and let his paw stroke the soft melody from the strings. But they were closed for only a moment, because he didn't want to take his gaze off her as he played. He watched her as the lyrics he'd written floated in the air between them. His singing voice wasn't as deep as his speaking voice would belie. He was more of a tenor, though he could cover three full scales, a feat indeed.
The words he sang described Tangel as he saw her. How gentle and sweet she was, how she brightened his mood with just a single word, and how her absence had almost felt like his sun had been taken from his world. He sang of how the oceans reminded him of her and the stars and the gentle breeze over the inland lakes at home, how all of them seemed to whisper her name.
And then, after what may have been hours but felt like mere minutes, his song was over, the last chord drifting off like a feather on a summer's breeze.

smiled and purred softly. "That was so beautiful..." she spoke half in awe. Her cheeks became that soft shade of magenta they usually showed whenever she blushed as she softly touched the pearls still.
"And.. You sing so wonderfully, I..." she smiled again. "I don't know how I could thank you enough..." She scooted a little closer to him again.

Charlie smiled softly at her and wrapped his arm around her.
"Just knowing that you take such pleasure in them is thanks enough for me," he said softly and nuzzled her ear. "As beautiful as you say they are, I don't think they could ever be as beautiful as you," he whispered in her ear and sighed.
"I don't think I truly knew just how much I missed you until now that you're back again," he broke off with a small laugh. "Listen to me. You must think I've lost my mind."

Tangel sighed and smiled as she leaned against him. "I don't think you've lost your mind..." She giggled at the thought though. "I drove my family crazy, too... And I can say..." she cooed while turning her head to look up at him. "I feel the same... I missed you so much, that I didn't realize just how much until I saw you swimming out there..."
She then blushed and nibbled her lip shyly while nuzzling against him and lifting a hand to run her fingers over the beads of her new necklace.

Charlie hadn't realized that he'd been holding his breath until he slowly exhaled. He looked down into her eyes and raised his other paw to touch the blush on her cheeks.
"Tangel... I want to ask you something, but I don't know how. And I want your permission..." he said slowly and sighed. An inner voice urged him to just speak and get it over with.
"May I kiss you?"

Tangel blinked then blushed even brighter as she smiled. I thought you'd never ask... "Yes... You may..."
She had heard of Omi and the others with mates talk about their best kisses when pretending to be asleep with the younger ones. Some of them a bit too much, for her sanity's sake, but they all had said at least once, that their first kiss was the best of them all... She now couldn't wait, but forced herself to stay calm until he made his move.
