Anubis, wandered into a spot where everything seemed so.. public? The land was clear for miles, tee-pees were dotted along the horizon, and blurry shapes in the distance were assume to be other soquili. Anubis flopped down, his butt sitting on the floor, his posture seemingly of a dog, his blue rippled tail was sprawled over the ground.
"Mm. What is there to do on a fine day like this?" He said sarcastically. It was boredom to hell.

"Wheeeeee!!!!" Squealing happily like a small child at play, Safi ran hell-mell over the clear plains, prairie grass tickling his sides and wings and causing him to punctuate his enthusiastic squeal with the occassional bouts of laughter. Suddenly, without any seeming warning, he screeched to a stop. Instantly, his expression changed from one of gleeful abandon to pleased encouragement. "See? That wasn't hard at all! Now then, you try it and just tell me that you don't feel better!" Grinning from ear to ear, he looked back in the direction that he'd come from, his gaze on the deep blue Soquili that he was currently shouting encouragement at.
"Er..." Back on a low rise, Zaphiro had watched Safi's scamper with a combination of surprise and incredulousity. Certainly this little afternoon jaunt had started simply enough, with he expressing boredom and Safi offering to show him some little entertainments to 'lighten the spirits and pass the time'. At any rate, he hadn't expected a lesson in foal behavior!
Still, he was the mentee, not the mentor; and one thing about Zaphiro was that he always followed through. So, taking a deep breath, the sapphire stallion squared his shoulders...and took off running, as fast as he could. No squeal for him, though; that was just not something that he did. But the running he coul do...the running was fun! The running was-
The running was abruptly brought to a halt as suddenly Zaphiro tripped up on something that was hidden in the tall grass, something that tangled around his leg and sent him pitching forward to the ground. In fact, that something was the tail of Anubis, but all that Zaphiro was truly noticing was the pain of crashing to earth while running at full speed. "Ouch..."

Anubis flicked his tail oblivious to the scene that was coming, in turn which the action had caused tripping. By the slip of the tail, Anubis had also been dragged down in the pile on top of Zaphiro. "Wha..?" He said feeling his aching head. But he hadnt hit the ground. Confused, he looked beneath him to see a blue winged soquili underneath him.
"Ergh." The sound resulted in his attempt not to frigging swear. He layed on the new soquili for a few more seconds before standing up, wobbily. His legs were tilted in, shaking as if he was a newborn foal. "Thats what I get for ramming into a full-fledged stallion." He said walking around a bit shakily.
is walking aruptly stopped as he felt something being tugged. He looked behind him to see his tail still attached to a another hoove. He knicked in annoyance before turning around. "Dont you owe me your name or something, seeing as we both were victims of a ..tripping." He said a bit disgusted at the last word. Surely it sounded ridiculous, what happened but it was also through accurate, the word tripping was the only one that could describe this predicament.

"Oof" As if bashing into the ground wasn't bad enough, Zaphiro squawked again in pain as the Soquili he'd snared fell on top of him, knocking any remianing wind he had left clean out of him. Gods, he felt like he'd been beaten to a pulp, and yet all he done was fall!
As the other stallion rose to his feet and walked up, Zaphiro just lay there for a few more minutes, trying to regain his breath. But it was the latent hostility and annoyance in the tone of the stallion that finally caused him to rise, painfully, to his feet; as he did so, he kicked his hoof a few times, distangling it from the strange tail it was enmeshed in. "I think that it was me more than you doing the ramming...and I sincerely apologize for...the tripping." Definitly not a terribly dignified sounding name, but at least it was accurate. Besides that, Zaphiro, stiff and sore as he was, was not about to worry about anything but handling the situation as it was meant to be handled. "I had no idea that you were here, or otherwise I would have picked a different route. Are you hurt badly?"
The words had bearly escaped the sapphire's lips when suddenly another voice broke in on the conversation. "Good grief, Zaphiro, you were supposed to run over the ground, not other Soquilis! Trust me, that's just begging to get yourself threatened, beat up, or at the very least snarled at a good deal. Or else rumpled, and who wants that?" Grinning from ear to ear, Safi sauntered over to the other two, his alert gaze taking in the stiffness and oddness in both Anubis and Zaphiro's stances. "Though things seem to be a bit civil here, at least."
As he finished speaking, he suddenly swept Anubis a slight bow. "I should probably apologize as well, for whatever it is that just happened; Zaph was only acting like a loon because I thought it would be fun to watch, no other reason. So, I suppose you could say that I was the instigator."

Anubis shifted, he had slightly sprained limbs but nothing other than that. Of course.. he was bound to be very sore in a few days. He gave a ironic smile to the blue soquili indicating that he was going to feel the same effect.
He stared at his disengaged tail for a few minutes before lifting his head up to give a small smile to the other soquili. "Not hurt in anyway, well aside from the sore limbs. You must be more pain than me." His tone was sympathetic.
He turned to the other soquili that had come up. He had ignored this soquili so he could talk to the other one but he supposed, it would be bad manners to ignore him for too long.
"Why wouldnt we be civil? From your outburst, I would say you would NOT be civil if you were in our situation. But appearances are decieving." He gave a loose shrug. "Its a good thing, Im such a nice soquili that I wouldnt do any of those things." He gave a dry smile to Safi.
"You.. deliberatly made your friend do entertainment for you. " he paused to take this in. "I feel sorry for the chap but that was a good gesture. Always good to use another for ones entertainment besides yourself. No fun in that." He drawled out giving a lazy smile to both of the new soquilis.

"Well, I think that I'll be- wait, what did you say?" Swiveling in mid-sentence, Zaphiro turned his attention from Anubis to Safi, somewhat shocked at Safi's rather cavalier confession. "You mean that the sole intention behind that ridiculous performance was for you to have a chuckle at how undignified and foolish I looked?"
Shrugging his shoulders and continuing to grin, Safi nodded his head. "Yup. Does that really surprise you? After all, it's totally boring out here, and you were being all moody, so I figured if I could get you to do something out of your usual 'sphere of dignity', it'd all be good! And it was, and I really can't say I'm unhappy about that, bruises and bashes aside." With that, he winked at Zaphiro, leaving the other wind staring blankly for a few moments longer as Safi turned back to address Anubis, switching conversation partners with the ease of one well-practiced.
"Well, if you'd bet anything of value on me being uncivil, you would have lost it; I am never anything but civil, and to be totally honest have never yet been involved in any situation that would call for anything other than a good chuckle." His ubiquitous grin never wavered; in fact, now that he was certain that there would be no fighting, it had actually grown! "Nothing is more ridiculous than pompous Soquilis who don't know how to laugh at their own expense once in a while...and if you can do that, you're welcome to laugh at anyone else's from time to time."
Finally getting his mind around what Safi was saying, Zaphiro stared for just a moment longer, than shook hishead. Really, Safi was one that one needed time to grow accustomed to...
Turning his own attention back to the Anubis, he shrugged his shoulders in response to the comment about pain. "Honestly, I can't say which of us ought to be hurt worse...I'd say we're both bashed up pretty good, and try not to worry about specifics. Such things are good at making an annoying situation even worse." He paused, then, as his own words reminded him that he hadn't yet answered one of the stranger's first questions. "And to answer your earlier question, I'm Zaphiro; and this is Safi. What do you go by?"

"Poor, poor Safi." Anubis said shaking his head after hearing their names. "My name is Anubis. Nice to meet you, although actually -- it wasnt quite that nice when we first met but its nice now, right?" He flashed a grin at both soquilis.
"But, really, I cant believe that of you Safi. By your saying, you must've done something uncivil in order to make Zaphiro do something like that." He gave a thoughtful look. He looked at Safi's ever un-waivering grin knowing that he was getting amusement out of both of him and Zaphiro. He wrinkled his nose thinking that he'd like to get amusement out of Safi, more rather than himself.
"At least I'm not a pompuous soquili that always makes an a** out of himself without knowing, isnt that so?" He said winking. "Perhaps we'll meet some one of ourselves like that." He furrowed his eyebrows, at the thought of meeting someone like that. "Perhaps, we will together and make mock of him like you did to Zaphiro. As long as it isnt Zaphiro --" He added hastily. He liked these two soquilis and ditn want to lose them, just yet.
"Anyways, what are you doing around these parts? I know I was just exploring but it seemed that you two had a different objective." He gave a glance to their surroundings to indicate that there really wasnt much to do.

"Nice to meet you, but your cruel words wound me heartily, Friend Anubis; I assure you, all that I did was explain to Zaphiro that it would be fun and demonstrate. Zaphy might be chagrined, but he's honest enough to tell you that there was no leg twisting involved." Laughing, Safi returned the bluejay's grin with a wide one of his own, not that that was a hardship; obviously this stallion was an enjoyable sort, and that was just what they could use on a dull day like this!
Snorting in disgust, Zaphiro nonetheless was forced to nod his head in agreement. "Can't say I can hang the badge of a lack of civility on Safi for this, though I really would like to. I can't say that I"ve ever touted crashing into or tripping over people as a good way to meet someone-"
"-But why question it when it so obviously works? Look on the bright side!" Safi butted in with a chirpy rejoinder, grinning down Zaphiro glare until Zaph was forced to shake his head and basically give up. Safi was certainly an original...
"Anyway...much as the mocking of pompous ones has appeal, I think that I'd have to pass on that." Here, Zaphiro's smile became slightly self-depricating, and he stepped back in what could best be described as a shuffle. "I've been informed that I tend towards pompousity myself, so I think I'd be a little hypocritical if I went after someone like that." And hypocrisy was such an unpleasant behavior; absolutely repugnant to the sapphire's gentlemanly sensibilities.
Rolling his eyes, Safi shot Anubis a Look of the sort that meant 'uh-huh; yep; whatever.' "Not quite the same thing, Zaph; you might be pompous, but you don't let it go to your head; that's the type we'd go after, right Anubis?" Grinning slying, he nudged Anubis with a wing and gave him a knowing look, then barreled off again. "And to answer your last question, we have our home base not too far off; the two-legger who we befriended has a teepee not too far away, and we were visiting her. But visiting hours are over, so it's time to get creative! How about you? Or rather...what made you decide to explore this rather uninspiring plot of land?"

"I suppose that both of you are at fault then instead of just Safi? That makes it so much more interesting." Anubis said pretending to give a stern glare at both of them. "Your an honest one Zaphiro." He shook his head. "Y'know, many soquili would just blame it on someone else. Of course -- they dont know that being true is beneficial but - " he shook his head.
"Your optimistic, arent you?" Anubis said tilting his head. "Do you ever look at the depressing side? Both sides are quite fun if I do say so myself." Anubis grinned sheepishly. "At least it was an interesting meeting instead of just coming by each other and going your Hi-How-are-you-doing-whats-your-name? I've had more than my fair share of that." he grimaced. This certainly was a meeting he wouldnt ever forget.
"Your pompous? I'm surprised, you really dont act like it." Anubis seemed startled. Xaphiro had not struck him as that type at all. Catching Safi's glance, he rolled his eyes back and gave him 'Pfft.' look. "Of course, Safi. Ones such as you, right?" He announced in a dramatic jest to indicate he was joking.
"There's visting hours? I just come and go to my human's tee-pee at will. Of course, she doesnt pay attention to rules in the first place so I wouldnt be surprised if she knew about visiting hours and didnt tell me." Anubis stated airily. To truth, it didnt really matter to him. "Anyways, you know, the usaul where you wander and nothing is happenning and all that sort."

Tossing back his curls with some of his remaining dignity, Zaphiro shook his head at Anubis. "Even if it got me out of an unpleasant situation, my conscience wouldn't allow me to forget that I unfairly placed blame on an innocent. That might be good for some...but I'll take my own hard knocks." With that, he smiled slightly, even to the point that his dazzlingly white teeth showed. "Besides, I might not look excetionally terrifying, but I do know how to defend myself."
"That's the spririt, Zaphy-boy!" Grinning, Safi clapped Zaphiro on the back with a wing so hard that the sapphire almost staggered, but Safi took no notice, keeping his attention on Anubis. "Well, it's like this, Anu; I can be cheerful and happy, or I can be gloomy and depressed. No contest as far as I'm concerned, unless it's something really bad. And actually...I've never encountered anything that bad!" Granted, his definition of bad was rather different from most, which had a tendancy to infuriate those around him, but...yeah. "Can't say I've really had many of the greetings you described, though...for some reason, strange intros are my thing." Wow. Who'd have thought it?
Almost without missing a beat, Safi turned back to regard Zaphiro from tip to tail as he stood there, then cast a grin back at Anubis. "Nope, he's definitly pompous. Not incurably so, but enough to justify use of the word.
Having regained his balance after Safi's smite, Zaphiro managed to rejoint eh conversation, but bearly. Safi was certainly one that he'd need to get used to! "Aside of Safi and Indawo, this is myh first time meeting another Soquili...so I guess I've set a precedent for myself. Although I hope to avoid such violent introductions in the future." Glancing from Safi to Anubis, Zaphiro was obviously doing his best to keep up fwith the flow of conversation, but boy was it a challenge! "I"m not really sure what you mean by visiting hours, though, Anubis...that's what Safi says when we go visit our two-legger, but it changes so much that I don't know if it means what he thinks it means." How very complicated!
"At any rate, that's not important; what's important is that we're all here and lacking in any serious injuries! So...we should so something!" With his usual panache, Safi cut in once again, his tone and even his posture dramatic. "So...any suggestions?"

"A conscience?" Anubis twiwtched. "I really hate those things sometimes but ohwell." he moved with ease around Zaphiro looking at him casually. "I expected no less of you." giving him a smile in return. Anubis looked at Safi in surprise. "Yes, I wonder why you dont have that type of greetings." He said halfhearted knowing ezxactly why he didnt get that sort of greeting.
"He had.. mood swings I take it?" He asked Zaph. "You seem like the type that'll .. adapt to anything." Anubis stated out to Safi bluntly.
"..pompous?" He looked at Zaphi as if asking for confirmation. "So far, he hasnt made that sort if impression on me, but you never know." He looked atZaphi for a while as if contemplating that he was the other firs soquili. "I Take it.. Safi is part of your family and perhaps, Indaw is too? Meaning I'm the first non-family one?" Anubis asked good-naturedly. "Mymy. I feel special already." His eyes sparkling.
"..wait. Why dont me and Zaph throw you into the river? It would certainly be satisfying." Anubis put on a innocent face... the corner of his mouth twitching as if he wanted to laugh or smile.

Rolling his eyes, Zaphiro nonetheless smiled as he shook his head at Anubis. Really, this was getting both complicated and confusing, and he only had to deal with one unfamilair Soq! Honestly, the sapphire stallion was remarkably impressed that Anubis hadn't just given up in confusion yet. "I wouldn't say that Safi has mood swings...to my knowledge, he always acts this way. This way just happens to be slighty erratic."
"Only slightly? Sounds like I'm losing my touch, then, and will have to do something to remedy that." Grinning evilly, Safi tossed back his mane and gave both the other stallions a look of challenge, one that Zaphiro at least understood. "Personally, I'd say that I'm being downright simple at the moment...so maybe that is a fitting word. For now. "And sorry to put a damper on your fun; entertaining as being chucked into a river sounds, I'm afraid that your plan has a fatal flaw."
"As he spoke, Safi trotted over to stand right next to Zaphiro, then poked at him with a wing while facing Anubis. "This guy here? That inconviniant conscience you just heard about wouldn't permit him to do something so horribly uncivil as chuck someone into anything...or chuck anything at all, for that matter. Isn't that right, Zaphy?"
Zaphiro glowered slightly, refusing to verbally agree, but Safi was absolutely right; such behavior was something that Zaphiro could never be part of himself, and would furthermore have to intervene if he saw it being performed. But darn it, that didn't mean that Safi had to be so gleeful!
Ignoring his friend for the moment, Zaph focused on Anubis. "Well, family is a slight stretch...Indawo and Safi are both bonded to the same two-legger that I am, so that's my link to them. So I guss that you could say we're adopted?" A slightly puzzling situation, truth be told...but it worked, and that was the important part. "Do you have any herdmates, Anubis?"

"Aw, such a party-pooper." Anubis pretended to pout at this piece of information -- not that he didnt expect it or anything. "Such a entertaining prospect down the drain or in this situation, down the river."
"Ah, adoption. I suppose it does fit the shoe." Anubis observed the two of them.
"Herdmates?" Anubis asked curiously. "Does herdmates mean herdmates actually or are you talking about the same relationship, You have with this Indawo and Safi?" He asked. "Well -- I am in a herd with a soquili named Couscous as a leader but I know none of the group aside from him and his daughter." He shook his head reminding himself to get better acquainted with them. "But if you talkin about something like between you and Safi, No. I live alone at my tee-pee." he shook his head, staring out to his tee-pee in the distance.

Smiling slightly, Zaphiro lowered his head in agreement with Anubis' first statement; after all, it had to be said that there was the possibility of excitement in flinging someone in the river. Besides that, in the short time that Zaphiro had known Safi, he had come to realize that Safi didn't really respond to usual stimuli...nor in the usual way. He just laughed everything off! Unquestionably that was why Indu had such a short temper with Safi..
Chuckling a bit at that last thought, Zaphiro blinked up at Anubis' sudden question; he had thought that there was only one answer to that question, but apparently...
"-he meant a teepee based herd, Anny; that's the only kind of herd that we really know of." Breaking into the conversation once again, Safi gave Zaphiro a rougish wink, understanding as he did that Zaph was confused. Safi thrived on confusion, though, so this was his arena! "Not sure what you mean by your non-teepee herd, though; care to elaborate on your system?" Of course, that wasn't really a request; but making it into a request meant that there was a higher liklihood of getting an answer!
