Finale maybe? Depends on what kind of music your writing. Finale is good for writing full scores for jazzband and symphonic.

i use Finale Notepad because it's all i have and it's free. i want to get this other Finale that records whatever you play and writes it out for you. that way i don't have to go through the trouble of clicking in all those notes. i think the program is like $60.

Myself, I'd choose Finale over Sibelius.

1. Finale is cheaper
2. Finale is much easier to use IMO
3. You can get Finale Notepad for free (or Finale 2007 for free too ninja )

Finale 2007's playback sounds much more realistic than 2003, it also has studio mode, which lets you play back certain instruments at a time, change voicings, etc. As well, it feels easier to use

I suggest Band-in-a-Box personally. For the pricepoint, it's really good. AND for jazz people, it's also a good practicing tool because you can punch in chord progressions and it'll play it back for you. Finale Notepad isn't bad either but I'd avoid Sibelius and the actual Finale because they're both HELLA expensive, (even though Finale is a touch cheaper). BB is only about $80, which for what you get with it is a really decent price point.
