I was reading through the ED abortion thread and I found that most of the pro-choice supporters are female. And everytime a person added a post who was in favor of abortion was a female, however I found that most males were pro-life, except for a few (sissies)...

Anyway, it's come to my attention that though there are pro-choice males, there are much fewer when it comes to who is willing to speak up on Gaiaonline. Probably due to a lot of the girls just seemingly being pro-choice.

I've counted 236 females in favor of pro-choice in that thread started by Nethelia, and different 36 males in favor of pro-choice.

I went on my buddy list, and found most of the girls were pro-choice, while most of the guys are pro-life. I checked on my xanga... and most of the girls subscribed were pro-life... probably because of what I wrote in my Xanga lol.

I asked people on myspace...

So I've come to the concept that there will always be more female pro-choice advocate that male pro-choice advocates. I think this is because most men feel that they do not want their child destroyed before it can come into the world.

What do you think?

I think that the only reason there seem to be fewer male Pro-Choicers is that males are going to tend to think, "It's a woman's thing, I don't care" and not get into it. The battle is largely fought by women on both sides.

As far as the outspoken men go, in the Pro-Choice guild my opinion is that they are basically the same men who don't care, and are just saying, "Since I don't care, let them have their choice" or they are Pro-Choice because it'll make them look like they care about "women's rights". Whereas, on our side of the fence, men tend to be outspoken because they are more religious, or, as you said, don't like that the future of mankind is being placed solely in the hands of pregnant women.

Irrational, pregnant women... Scary thought.

True. Anyway I'm beginning to think that a more socialist society could be good.

I don't see how. A more socialist society just means a society where there are lots more taxes for a few more benefits, that many jobs already give, such as free health-care and dental-care. While "Free health-care" sounds really good, when you compare it to how much you are going to get taxed in order to make it free for you -and everyone else in the country- it's really not worth it, in my opinion.

And before you say, "Well we'll just tax the rich people more", my opinion is that the reason Capitalism is great is because it gives you reason to be innovative. If you think up new things, you get rich. If you are rich, you can buy stuff. However, a socialist society that taxes rich people a lot and poor people very little encourages you to do very little, and sit at the bottom of the food chain collecting your free stuff, while the people who -are- being innovative are being punished by huge taxes.

...And what does that have to do with male v. female pro-choicers/pro-lifers?

More socialist vs individualistic, in terms of people actually caring for the society they live in instead of themselves.

Socialism has to do with people contributing to society, which is why I feel we need a lot more balance than we have.

I know to many guys who are Pro-choice... really I like the idea of guys being pro-life. But guys don't have a say. They would never understand it completely.

not to mention with free health care, I'd be dead...

Seriously, we get to go to a doctor who knows what's wrong with me as opposed to one that refuses to believe blood tests that say something's wrong with me. I get treatment and care, but it took 6 years of doctor jumping. If we had to go where the govt. said we had to go, which'd be the cheapest doctor, I'd be treated for being a hypochondriac, and by now I"d be blind or in a wheelchair or something.

Jane Austen had a very good idea of how the upper class should act. Her most admirable characters were rich guys but they took care of the people who worked for them.

Socialism would work much better if it was a voluntary and not a government thing xd

Maybe guys on gaia just realize no one will listen to them unless they don female avatars?

Right. They don't really have too much of a say (politically, etc.), but they can be pro-life. Especially if they are religious.

I actually read something interesting the other day about a drop in support for abortion, especially among females. I can't find the article, but if I remember correctly, most women are pro-life, according to statistics.

I think that the reason you hear more women advocating pro choice is simply because it is something that directly effects them and their bodies. Most women who are willing to stand up and say they are pro choice will also tell you that if they ever got pregnant they would fear that no one would accept them, they would become outcast, and their current partner would deny the child is his and run off. Most of it has to do with fear. I can't say that is every womans stance on abortion; some women who have teenage children are pro choice because the don't want to be discraced with a daughter sho has a baby. And still others are just.... crule.
One of my friends recently divorced his wife because she got pregnant by him, she had an abortion behind his back and ran off with another man.
it is pure selfishness.

Right. They don't really have too much of a say (politically, etc.), but they can be pro-life. Especially if they are religious.
I find that kinda offensive. Because once you start saying, "The men don't have a say" it becomes just what the Pro-Choicers claim it is; A fight over whether a woman has a right to do what she wishes with her body or not. To say that only women can understand it means that only women know enough about the important parts.

And if you mean the pain that a woman goes through in childbirth, then I would say I know more about that then a lot of the younger women who voice their opinions. I have 6 younger siblings, and I've dealt with my mom during each one.

However, my main reason for being pro-life isn't something that women know anything more about then men. I believe the fetus is a human child. The obvious biological proof is thrown out by Pro-Choicers, so it becomes "Is the child a person/have a soul or not" and that can't be proved either way by anyone.

So, anyways, if you disagree I'd like to hear -what- a man doesn't understand as well as a woman does that makes it so he shouldn't have a voice on this issue.

>.> wow I haven't been here in a while.

When you think about it, the majority of people tend to stereotype the role of "Father" as someone who just brings home the money and tucks his children into bed at night. On occasion he takes the kids out to play baseball etc etc. While the mother does most of the rearing and teaching and "dirty work" to take care of her children.
I think that a lot of men have come to believe that stereotype themselves -- especially when it comes to abortion. "What role do I have in this?", "Should I even BE involved?", "It's not my body that's going through this" type thoughts. So most guys tend to be fence sitters or siding with pro-choice females (to avoid the comments such as "what role do you have in this?", "you shouldn't be involved!" and "It's not your body going through this!")

I really have a lot of respect for a man that will speak up and challenge this so-called woman's right.

That's what I think too. When a woman gets pregnant, most would say it's harder on her than the man. The woman has to pay the consequences more. I think it's kind of sad that men seem to care more about their babies than women do.

I still say that if you don't want babies, then don't make them.

You know what's really sad.... the way the world works. Abortion comes because people want to have sex, or are afraid to get raped... so let's use cause and effect.

The ability to have sex... hahaha... okay so people want the ability to have sex and choose when they want to have kids right? So they want abortion.

Now people want the choice to choose when to have kids because of things like financial situations and school... but they still want to pursue a sexual relationship.

So they choose to have a sexual relationship because they feel it helps them get along, and also because people around them say... it's okay.

And then because of society... they decide that they want to have sex like everyone else "supposedly."

So by having sex, they want to have a choice in when to have a kid, and in when to have a kid they want to have control, they want power....

Power, where have I heard that word before? Power corrupts?

So... because of one thing, they need another. This is not saying everyone is the same, but it points to human nature, people want things without consequences, and because technology gives them the option, they don't care about what happens to everything around them, only themselves.

Of course, no one would admit to it.
