I'm goth. I feel like a poser. I act goth, and wear a lot of black, but not enough black. I'm fourteen, and my mom will not let me buy pants with chains on them, or huge boots. She wants to know why I can't be normal and prissy. She thinks all goths are evil satanists. How do I convince her to let me wear what I want to? I'm going into highschool. She wants me to wear more girly things. You can be goth and feminin too, but she doesn't belive that. Any suggestions? Other than buying clothes in secret, lugging them around in a backpack, and getting dressed in the school bathroom. >.>

You have to help her understand that goths are a heck of a lot nicer people than preps. Though she might want you to swing that way, I don't think I'm the only one that's noticed that nearly all goths are nice. They're just misunderstood. My mom worked at a Slipknot concert and said all of the people there were really nice and friendly (though 'very creepy' XD)
Me, if I had to classify myself... I guess I'd say I'm emo (though I'd probably be considered a poser), but I really think the goth clothes are cool. Thats why I want to wear them. Not because I'm planning on killing somebody or because I want to cut myself or whatever people think. I've always been attracted to cool clothes and the stuff they have at Hottopic is a thousand times cooler than Aeropostale xp . If you can, please have your mom read what I've said so she can maybe see another point of view. I have no idea why she'd believe some random person on the internet, but maybe it might have an affect on how she feels about the subject overall.
Hey, it's worth a shot.

There's no rule that says you must have a closet full of black clothing to be considered goth. Though, the platform boots, collars, and bondage pants are common in the sub culture.
I suppose if you want to try and convince your mother to let you have the clothes you want all you can really do is talk to her in a rational manner and explain that there's a certin stlye of clothing you feel the most comfortable wearing and that you hope that she can except that it's the way you are the happiest. ...Run on sentance.
Anyway, while she may not want you to be in the previously mentioned bondage gear maby she'll allow a comprimise to be made.
If she wants you to look girly prehaps you could show her some pictures of girls dressed in the Gothic Lolita style.
If not there are worse things than not being aloud to wear exactly what you want. In a few years you'll be eighteen and able to do as you please.

Pish posh to lables.
Well, I'd guess you could work her into it.? If she wants girlie, get some Gothloli things like IY_and_MCR said. They're much prettier than the chains. But if you WANT chains, why not add a chain onto your jeans/whatever pants you wear. And as for the boots, they're not fun. You'll fall on your face. However, to work her into those, why not try wearing not-huge boots. Dr. Martens are an awesome brand. Pricey, but they'll last you a long time.
But yeah, try out Gothloli. "goth"&"girlie" in one fashion.
 Gothloli^ Pretty, no?
And, I doubt it'll help any, you don't have to wear chains and big boots to be "goth". I mean, I wear black band tee's, black pants, and boots(Dr Martens heart ) And for a long time I had the end of my hair dipped in black(my hair is now all black, though) and with just that I was considered "goth." No chains, no big-boots, and I was still considered. So, if you want to work with your mother, try out gothloli. However, if you want to be rebelous, work her into it. It'll work eventually, I promise.

I wear black pants/shirts/ band tees and stuff like that, but I get labeled without saying a word XD It doesn't bother me. I have friends who are popular, because they are really nice and treat me no different than everyone else (except they act a little more relaxed when talking to me rather than their big group of friends) whee I think it depends on who you talk to, because a lot of people in my grade are really stupid XD
