Agh, I keep going around this site and reading books, but I still don't know what an athame is or how to make one... help?

Its a knife used in ceremoniees usually to help direct energy etc. Usuall its double edged, with a black handle. some traditions require it be a dull blade.

I have a book by Raymond Buckland that has a section that tells you how to make an athame... it's that big blue one. I think the title is something like the Complete Book of Witchcraft.

Yep, that would be the book's name. It's history and the maiking of one is talked about at the beginning of Lesson Three of Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft. If you'd like me to actually quote the book for you, I can.

If you have a scanner you could just scan the pages and upload them to the internet and post them here... maybe?

Oh, how I wish I had one. My life would be *so* much easier if I did. ~sigh~

I can do it later. That way no one has to type it out.

Cool, thanks. I don't know where I'm going to get this material. (my dad just informed me that he doesn't want a huge kiln in our back yard, and we have no metal.)

Maybe you could sign up for a metal making class (I can't think of the name right now... welding? or something of that sort).

would be a good idea. my school schedule is pretty full right now though. maybe junior or senior year... though If I make an athame in that class I would have to hide it.

It doesn't really matter that much. But it would be best if it had some of your energy put into it. Like, you could carve your name or something into the handle or engrave something onto the blade.
