Who they are...
For centuries, the war between Light and Dark has waged, all under the unsuspecting noses of the 'every day' folk. Demons, Vampires, Werewolves...Humans...these are not creatures of folklore, fantasy or even normal life. These are the warriors of the never ending war.
In the present day, the sun commences to sink upon the horizon and the dark armies are slowly, but surely, gaining control. As a precaution, and most likely the last line of defense, El Mandatum de Lumen Sanctus, the Order of Sacred Light, is being mobalized by the Church-- This is the elite, the all-powerful and God-fearing group of Demon Slayers who are rumored to have been trained by Gabriel himself.
For the first time in nearly two hundred years have the elite slayers been released unto the mass population with a single, unified goal: to rid Gaia -- more specifically Durem, as the old city seems to be where the highest concentration of ethereal activity seems to be.

Landmarks The epicenter of the newest surplus of demonic activity has been pin-pointed as Durem itself. Wherever the demons are, The Order can be found.
In the old Cathedral on the Northeast corner of the city, El Mandactum de Lumen Sanctus has held its head quarters for over two and a half centuries. It is here where the newest generation of the Order can be found, training feverently from sunrise to sunset. Once more does the the grand courtyard bare witness to the violence necessary to fight the evil that seems to be closing in on the otherwise seemingly peaceful city. Brothers, Sisters and warriors have banded together for a single goal here-- politics and religion are synonymous within the order.
The Clocktower too is a small extension of the Order. It is here were two of their most prized weapons are housed-- a novice and a demon. This is their lair. Why not stick to the convent? Oh, various reasons... for one, Bakemono is too much of a liability (he tends to provoke Sister Raven into sinful fits of blasphemy and violence.) Besides, Carmelite nuns are cloistered nuns meaning that they have little to no social contact outside of the convent-- having a man, let alone a DEMON goes against the rules. 'Exile' (as Baka calls it) or not, the Tower is their home and so they'll protect it as visciously as they would the Convent itself.
God's Convenience Store-- Well, the place doesn't really have a name and smart-a** Baka calls it so. Here, members of the Mandactum come to replenish their goods. Everything from lima-beans to 'soul pills' can be bought here for both earthly and heavenly exports commune under a single roof. It really is God's convenience store.

Catholic Hierarchy 101 Who's who in the church
It is a known fact that Catholism is one of the most complicated religions of the world. They not only have at least one hundred different patron saints (Hey, they got St. Annie, at least I believe her name is, and she is the patron saint of fireworks.), about a zillion complicated rules and a dozen other froms of social classes. To make it easier to understand I found a list out there that clearly writes out the 'who is who' in the church starting with The Big Cheese : the Pope.
* Pope * Cardinal Bishop * Cardinal Priest * Cardinal Deacon * Archbishop * Bishop * Auxiliary Bishop * Parish Priest * Curate * Deacon
Below the Deacon we have the religious orders such as the Franciscan Monks, Carmelite Brothers and so on. They too have their own social structre: Prior general/Abbot General/Provincial General/Friar General Provincial Prior/abbot/friar Sub Prior/Sub Abbot/ sub Friar Brother
In the past, several of the male-orders, such as the Carmelite Brothers and Franciscan Monks got permission by the Holy See (that is the Pope and his clergy) to start an order of women-based sub order whom they'd call Sisters. (The term Nun came since these sisters tended to have no social contact with the outside world after a while, hence the Cloistered term.) A few of the examples are as follows:
Carmelite Brothers -- Carmelite Nuns Fransiscan Monks -- Poor Claires
Despite the difference between the orders being of different gender and being separated completely from one another, the social order tend to be the same... as far as the sisterhood is anyway. (Bare with me, I'm still researching.)
Mother Superior Sisters Novices
If anybody else have more information of the social order within the Convent please pm it to me. Since Convent life is pretty much still a very much mysterious and private thing, I haven't been able to find much of it.

Western Demonology 101
Western Demons, like Western Vampires, are very much different from their Eastern counterparts. Western Vampires are pretty much nocturnal and the most famous of the two (Japanese vamps can walk in the daylight, dearies), in fact, it is the western version that comes to mind when one hears the words 'vamp'.
Western Demons are no different. There are just about hundreds of different demon and what not. Lets just name a few of the more common ones:
Beelzebub: otherwise known as 'Ba'alzibub', 'Belzebub'... he is the prince of demons. To not be confused with Satan-- this guy looks like a giant bee.
Satan: once an angel, now the ruler of hell. He doesn't posess demonic powers, perse, and he is not necessarily maleviolent as most believe him to be. He may have even been sent by the Lord to prevent worse harm -- from time to time, that is.
Succubi and Incubi : seductive demons meant to seduce the opposite gender. "Succuba", the appropiate term, is the female demon, Incubi the male. Incubie out number their female counterparts 9 to 1.
Lucifer: The name 'Lucifer' means light-bearer, and is not used in the New Testament, where the "bearer of light" is Christ. He was once one of the Seraphim (sometimes called the fiery, flying serpents). Not to be confused with Satan either.

Eastern Demons and Slayers
Eastern Lore, much like the western (Christian) lore, is vast, intriguing and beautifully complex. These demons, however, do not play by the same rules that their Western counterparts do and most would simply look at a crussifix only to fall down in a fit of hysterical laughter. It is for this reason that the Eastern specialists are called into action-- they have their own weapons, enchantments and rituals that can send the fiesty little things back to hell where they belong.
Examples of these demons are:
Hisa-me: These are female demons of death in the Japanese underworld (hell).
HojI: An evil Japanese spirit who lives inside an upright pillar (the Death-Stone) standing on the lonely moor of Nau. It will kill the unwary traveler who lies down to sleep near the stone.
Oni: Japanese demons who look like humans except that they have three eyes, big mouths, horns and sharp nails. They fly around and seize the souls of wicked persons on their deathbeds. To expel these demons, annually the oni-yarabi ceremony is held. Once the sage Nichiren ("sun-lotus") saw the oni at work in the scourges of his time: enemy invasions, earthquakes and eclipses. He attributed the evil to the sinfulness of his Japanese contemporaries, so he founded a special school of Buddhism to reform the people.
Asag: "demon that causes sickness" A terrible demon from Sumerian legend responsible for draught and plague.
"Large, round, three-legged, three-armed creature with no neck and several eyes covering their entire bulk. Has dark, hardened skin that feels like rock when touched. Almost indestructible."
Gorgon: The Medusa-like demon from Greek mythology
"A demon race of flightless, hairless humanoid creatures, usually around five and a half feet tall. Their most distinguishing characteristic are the long strands of parasitic worms that take residence in their brain and erupt from the top of their skull like hair.
Marid: Jinn creature from Arabic mythology
"Shapeshifters. Their natural form is an all black humanoid with no legs but can fly. No wings. At one time, they were the most powerful of demons, but are now only a minor race."
Pazuzu: A terrible demon of Mesopotamian origin.
"A demon race. Have long, curved tails like that of a scorpion or manta ray. Winged. They have black skin and are pestilence incarnate."
Ishtar: (Hindu, I believe) is the sister of Ereshkigal, who rules the dead. In Babylonian tradition, Ishtar, the daughter of Sin and sister of Shamash, was a fertility and storm goddess as well as goddess of love, marriage, spring, and the hunt. She was often invoked for protection from evil and illness. She was said to have taken on many lovers, which she would then kill when finished with them.
