This is a thread made by the users, discussing the issue. So far all that we have in the way of a response from the Admin/Mods is to not do anything. As in, don't sell items either in the Marketplace (lest someone with botted gold buy said item from you, leaving you with botted gold, and a perma ban) or in Mini Shops (lest someone pay you with botted gold and leave you with a perma ban) Don't Exchange, the items you're getting could have been bought with botted gold, or if you're selling they could pay you with botted gold (leaving you with a perma ban) Don't accept Donations from users, don't do anything on Gaia that involves gold, or items, at all. What the hell?

Jakobo

Unfortunately, in may cases, they directly purchased the gold through a reseller. The reseller acquired the gold by botting. This is not to say all cases are like this, but the popularity of people buying gold on ebay is on the rise. However, this only comes into the open after they are asked how they got xxxxxxx gold from acount yyyyyyyy. icon_sad.gif

There are legit trades, those people are not banned. Only those banned are banned with a certain degree of proof that the ToS was broken. It wouldn't be fair to someone who was donated a large chunk of money. In those cases, we as a collective group, would much rather just reverse the trades and put the world to right (in an economical sense).

WRONG. They ARE being banned.

DJGeriGoGo
And how do we fight a ban when we received botted gold unknowingly? I thought I was receiving donations through my buying university credits from the Word Bump game. Everything was going fine and then BAM - banned. No warning, no talk, just a ban and the only thing I can come up with is that one of the people that donated had botted gold.

Right now I do feel as if I was scammed - not buy a botter who donated gold to me and then I was banned for it. No, I feel scammed by GaiaOnline. I go to work everyday and go to college full-time and the money I have is hard earned and I chose to spend it on donations for a cause that I enjoyed (GaiaOnline). Why not pay a little extra to the people that make it fun for me online?

I was so wrong. I've lost everything I put into this game and I feel betrayed to have ever donated now. If I had known that I would be permanently banned because someone else botted (and I have their name and they are STILL not banned) without anyone asking a question of me or starting an investigation, then I never would have donated or even joined for that matter.

It seems as if the players of this game have no rights. We have a question to ask why the account was banned but is anyone even listening? And please don't tell me to leave if I don't like the service. That's way too easy to do and I didn't deserve it nor ask for it.

I never had sympathy for people that had their account banned. I thought deep down inside, "You did something and now you're getting kicked for it." Well, now I have the utmost sympathy for people that have been unfairly banned from GaiaOnline without investigation. I would have been more than willing to give up the gold and the items that were given to me, but a permanent ban? Why would I donate so much of my actual money to a website when I could have just cheated my way through it? Doesn't make much sense.

I have all of my PayPal transactions to date as well - but apparently me bringing that little bit of information up seems to be asking for "special treatment" instead of consideration in an investigation.

Ok, I have donated $2500+ to this site in the year I have been a member. I have forwarded the proof via email as I was told to by someone at Gaia HQ. Again, no repsonse. It has been 2 months and still my feedback has not been replied to.

I know why I was banned for this supposed "Botting", but I explained the circumstances. I accepted gold from someone who had botted to get it. How was I to know? Why would I, someone who has donated their hard earned cash, risk a ban on my account?

You indicate to send a feedback and we will get a reply, but why aren't the feedbacks being replied to?

When will this issue be taken care of?

Goddamn. Gaia is going the route of Neopets? This is NOT OK and HAS to STOP.

s**t. This is standard for the admins, though; L0cke's the biggest thief of them all, and since he's the example everyone must follow in the core crew, it's no surprise that they don't care. rolleyes

A few of my good Gaian friends have been banned for "botting." And in many cases, it was just because they bought something or someone donated a lot of gold to that person. sad

And I think that anyone who donates to GaiaOnline should be given special consideration and quicker responses. They say that donators are what keeps Gaia able to run, cost-wise, so I think donators should be treated with more respect.

I no longer accept trades from people I don't know.

Good plan Gwyn. Me either.

Very selective about who I do business with.

Yes definitely a good idea to only do business with people you know. Although for me I really don't do business at all.

I find it pathetic that on a site where everyone is just trying to have fun and communicate and meet new people with like interest, someone has to do this crap and ruin it for all of us following the rules! crying

sad so true.

a friend of mine has been banned, i couldn't believe it, for receiving botted gold, that's the most unfair thing that could happen to anyone!

she has a LOT of accounts, but she's afraid to sign on with any of the others and risk a blanket ban of her IP address, she's a long time Neopets user so she's is very much judging Gaia by Neo's new nazi attitude.
she's sent numerous emails to the address that's stated for these issues, and they keep getting bounced back to her, so she's getting absolutely nowhere confused

Wow! This is all news to me...now I'm scared! I have a lot of gold simply because I have old items that I auction every now and then and I love to donate it to people, especially new users who could use a little help...but that explains why people have been cancelling my trades lately! I'm afraid to trade or buy stuff now...this seems almost ridiculous, especially if they don't investigate anyone before or after banning them!! If they respected us all as users they would do some checking, not just the people who donate, although donations do keep gaia going so you think they'd be a little more supportive!

They're jumping to conclusions and banning all these people without investigating them and meanwhile I received two bad PM's in the past week and nothing has been done to my knowledge! I received one from someone who told me if I gave them my password he could be me 50k, and don't worry, I've been on here two years I'm smarter than that! lol The other one I received was a chainletter, which we all know is not allowed on gaia!

the admin are massively backlogged with reports, so any complaints are taking a long time to get dealt with.
obviously with the large teen quotient on here there's a huge amount of unnecessary reporting going on all the time and that slows the system down hugely.
plus the fact that some of the mods on here don't appear to even use Gaia anymore! rolleyes

It sucks that we can get punished when we unknowingly purchased something someone else bought with botted gold. I don't think that is fair at all. I know Gaia probably has a lot of reports to deal with, but if some of their members didn't do anything wrong, and they are still being banned for it...I don't know man, doesn't sound right to me.

It is almost like the admins are too lazy to actually look into the situation.

Well, to be fair, they do have a huge job in running this site.It took them forever to fix the situation with having enough (and organised) housing. And I've been waiting for months to see the ink exchange fixed, because I'd like to get some different colored inks, but I'm still waiting. But I never thought the housing issue would be fixed, and it has. Better then I have expected, I might add. Personally, I think there just isn't enough mods to handle it all as efficiently as we all would like.

i agree, and it reiterates my previous point. i read a petition a long time ago from a kid asking for more mods, he'd done a bit of a study, gone through many mod profiles and stated that a large number of them hadn't logged on for months.
i think this is a main part of the problem here, on paper Gaia has x amount of mods, but in reality a great deal of them have left Gaia and not been replaced.
and i haven't seen any mods from outside of the US, which doesn't help people such as myself who are often online at different times of the day.

A lot of my friends have been banned for things they didn't even do, in the sense of botting etc...

I am worried about Gaia's politics...

well

i've finally read the first post in this thread! not before time too
i had been too scared to use the marketplace for a long time, but now i see that it is safe.

so i wonder..2 of my friends on here have been banned, both for receiving botted gold in a donation.

so, if someone donated a large amount of gold to you and you simply accept, you're at risk from banning if there's botted gold within that amouint.

BUT

if you sent them a something in return, even if it's just Daily Chance junk or a similar cheap item, would that make everything ok?
something as simple as that? if my friend had sent one flower back in return she might not be banned now?

come to think of it, she did exactly that when i did a trade with her earlier this week, so maybe she's wised up to this already..
