Could someone explain how they do a CG drawing?

I think for most it's:
1. draw in pencil
2. go over in ink
3. color on the computer

is that right? sweatdrop

Do you have a tablet?

You can create a CG pic any number of ways. Usually, I sketch, ink, and color the entire thing on my computer, now that I have a tablet.

But if you don't, it's probably best that you draw and ink it off the computer, scan it in and clean up the inks so the lines are crisp and black, then color, yes.

There's no 'right' way to do it, though, so just experiment. ^^

With me, I sketch entirely on the computer.

I make, say, an 800x800 pixel image.
I'll set my brush to maybe a size 6 or eight, opacity 15%
Then I start sketching.
My laptop has a touchpad, so I don't know how well it would work with a mouse.

It's nice with the low opacity, because it forces me to go over a line a couple of times, giving me the oportunity to get it how I want it. ^^

When I'm done sketching, I'll use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to outline. I put it on the setting where it adds to a previous selection, so I can keep going and make the entire outline before I use the bucket tool to color it in.

I'll go search deviantART for a couple of coloring and inking tutorials, because I know my way really doesn't work with a lot of people. xd

A tablet is like an oversized touchpad (The pad that laptops have in place of a mouse).

They come with a pen-tool that, when you draw on the tablet with it, the image is transfered directly to your computer.

^^

Tablets are awesome because they let you skip right over having to hand-draw and scan an image. You can sketch it straight onto the computer.

Depending on what type you have, the pen's can be incredibly sensitive, so they'll react just like a real pencil/paintbrush/marker when you press down hard or tilt the angle.

Well, let's see... Ahem...

Back when I didn't have a tablet, I drew a picture in pencil... then inked it and erased the lines. I just inked with a ball-point pen. Then I scanned in the image, opened it up in Photoshop erased any extra gunk on the picture and fixed up some of the lines. Then I fiddled around with Brightness/Contrast to get the lines black and (fairly) smooth.

For colouring, I just added a new Multiply layer and just coloured everything in like that with the mouse.

You can see the lines aren't as smooth as they could be.

But now that I have a tablet I do all the drawing on the computer. I usually use openCanvas, and I start off doing a rough sketch in a light colour. Then I create a Multiply layer over that, and put in all the linework. Then I get rid of the sketch layer, and create ANOTHER multiply layer for colouring. Then of course, colour. And the lines turn out a loooot smoother.
