vowel, double vowel and double consanant
how to pronounce "U"(う)= do not make lips round like you would make to say english u (oo) sound. just leave lips same as are and say "u(oo" through them. you can say english way but you sound like foreign.
e= usually pronounce "ay" but for "N" it is like e in pet
double vowel= this is vowel held for twice as long as normal (also call long vowel)
double consanant= this is actually gollotal stop (try to say rat tail, it will come out "ra_tail, if you try to say both t you get "ratutail) it can come at end of word or normally in the middle. always pronounce as gollotal stop.
a littles tsu can start a sentence

more
always prnounce each syllable seperate (this does include "N")
any syllable that has -yo/-yu/-ya is not pronunce with "ee" sound first. no,
kyo is k-yo(one syallable) not kee-yo, ryo is r-yo not ree-yo, and so on.
counting syllable easy, count all hiragana (including "N", little hiragana/katakana count as part of syllable that come before or after them)

The verb 言う (iu), meaning to speak or to say, is pronounced as "yuu". Also in contractions with the ren'youkei 言 is pronounced as "yu": 言って (yutte), 言った (yutta), 言ったり (yuttari) and 言ったら (yuttara). In all other cases the normal "i" pronunciation is kept.
言う⇒ ゆう 言って⇒ゆって 言った⇒ゆった 言ったり⇒ゆったり 言ったら⇒ゆったら 言います⇒いいます 言える⇒いえる 言えば⇒いえば 言わない⇒いわない
