As I had stated in a few other threads in this subforum, Vampirism is a complicated topic which can very EASILY lead to misconceptions. This thread will be an informative one, complete with paragraphs of information, a link list, and an FAQ of sorts. I may well end up attempting a massive set of these threads, one for each of the kintypes that I know enough information about to make a substancial guide and a reliable source of information at that. Though, we'll have to see about all of that when the time comes. Since this is a Religion Guild as well, I've dedicated a few posts to the vampiric cults which ARE NOT HLVs. But are rather people who simply feed off the energy without having a need to do so. These cults are actually frowned upon within the HLV community. Likewise, these cults tend to frown upon HLVs for whatever reason. So, DON'T GET THEM CONFUSED. Table of Contents Post 1- Introduction and Table of Contents(You are here.) Information on Vampirism (in terms of Otherkin)
Often when one hears the term "Vampire", it is not hard to imagine a fictional, immortal, fanged monster who rose from the dead, preys off the living and needs to be killed off with a stake through the heart. In fact, I'm almost willing to bet that that would be the first image that would enter your mind. Well, I'm sorry to disappoint, but HLVs are nothing like that. They're MORTAL and HUMAN just like EVERYONE ELSE. The only difference is their NEED to FEED UPON ENERGY.
Why the HLV community chose a word such as "Vampire" to represent themselves, I will never know. It seems foolish in retrospect, as it causes too many misconceptions. Not to mention the ridiculous amount of roleplayers that tend to sneak aboard HLV communities. Now, you'll notice that throughout the course of this article, that I'll be using the term HLV a lot. It's an abbreviation for Human Living Vampire. I try to use it to avoid possible confusion with the pop culture image of what a vampire is.
A good place to start would be to establish the fact that there are two(some people say three) main categories of HLV. You have the Psionic Feeders/Energy Feeders/Psi-Vampires/Psi-Vamps and you have the Sanguinarians/Sanguivores/Blood Feeders/Blood Vamps. Some people also consider Psi-Blood(sometimes called Hybrid Vampires..another name that makes me cringe as I think of how easily that can lead to yet another misconception about HLVs. You'll notice that I won't be using the term at all in this article.) as an added category. Psi-Blood feeders are just as their name suggests; they consume both energy and blood. Some say that it's because Psi-Blood feeders require more energy than their counterparts. However, based on my own personal experiences, the Psi-Blood feeders that I've met were Sanguinarians who taught themselves to Psi feed in an attempt to get a bit of relief from their cravings; not unlike how a Nicotine patch takes the edge off a cigarette craving. The only difference, however, is that Sanguinarians don't feel "full" after a Psi-feed. The psionic means of feeding can only really serve as a temporary fix.
The above categories(minus the Psi-Blood category which can be also seen as a sub-category) can be divided down into smaller categories. These categories pretty much speak for themselves.

Before I go any further, I should go on to explain WHY these HLVs have this need to feed upon energies. HLVs suffer from an energy leak problem, or their bodies fail to generate enough energy to sustain itself. The exact cause of this energetic leak/energetic deficiency remains unknown, however, there are countless theories. These theories range from a broken/missing chakra to a somehow botched reincarnation, to even somehow having been cursed. In my opinion, the curse theory seems a bit unlikely..but everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
Failure to feed in order to maintain energy levels leads to withdrawls. Common energy withdrawl symptoms seem to be intense headaches, mood swings, intense hunger/desire to feed, scattered thoughts, fatigue, increased photosensitivity, slowed healing time, inability to remain focused on things and sometimes even weakness or getting mildly sick. HOWEVER, these symptoms are not the same for everyone, as every HLV is different.
Depending on the type of HLV, and the person themselves, the feeding method varies. However, there are certain common traits based off the type of HLV. Psionic feeders(counciou tend to manipulate their auric fields so that they form tendrils which extend forth from

just to correct a few things here.
those of us like myself who have the ability to feed both off of blood and directly from pranic energy are termed "hybrid" vampires. Several of the better known vamps are like this, such as Don Henrie, though some things he says bring his legitimacy into question. As I just stated, I myself am a Hybrid vampire, though I am predominately a psifeeder for the simple fact that it's more easily available. However, it works to varying degrees, as if it's constantly in flux. sometimes bloodfeeding works better for me and i have to deal moreso with the beast, and sometimes psifeeding works better, which makes my life a hell of a lot easier.
now, concious energy feeding is surprisingly simple. the method i find most useful is visualization. i imagine my own energy reaching out in white or green tendrils or octopus-like arms. i imagine them making contact with and peircing the flesh or aura(depends on how agressive i feel at the time) of my target and sucking the energy back in the form of light or more a sort of mist.
any questions?
