How come Gerry Butler isn't one of the choices?
Well, out of the choices, my favorites are the Robert Englund Phantom, the William Finley Phantom, and of course, Micheal Crawford. I don't have an ultimate favorite. Never seem to.

Hrm...*frowns slightly* For me, it's a tie between Lon Chaney and Michael Crawford...
And I suppose Monsieur Crawford represents all musical Phantoms...?

Michael Crawford. End of story.
But I am more of a fan of the musical. Though the man I recently saw, Hugh Parano, he was quite an amazing Phantom.
Oh I suppose I'll sum it up with the musical Phantoms. whee

i know that not a lot of people here are really in favor of the movie.... but i totally dig Gerard Butler. He is just oosing the urbane, mysterious, almost ferocious charm of the Phantom. Personally, i never thought i would like the movie as much as the Broadway show, but then when i saw it i totally loved it. And now i actually prefer his voice to Michael Crawfords... it seems stronger and more... mocking almost. But in a good way, it needs to be there. I dont know.... i just think he really embodies the way i see the Phantom.

Gerard Butler, I mean, he was a bit to cute to play The Phantom, but I liked that, I think it made the audience be able to feel a bit more compassionate for him.

Either Crawford or Butler... One for the Musical and seeing as there has only been one movie.... Butler for the movie

I like Crawford, Butler, and Lon. I think they all were awesome Phantoms, though there could never be anyone more suited for this role than the real Erik himself. xd

Gerard Butler most definatly and the comment about people being more compassionate towards him because of his looks is very true.
