There are a variety of ways a person can get to the island, be it: job opportunity, or "I'm an orphan and they're going to give me a place to live." (granted, there is the occasional shipwreck, but the majority of the cases are from the above)
However, it seems to me that this means of "acquiring" subjects leads the island to have an overabundance of the minorities of society. The majority of islanders, if coming from these scenarios, seems to give the mad doctor an ample population of drug abusers, social misfits, people with mental disorders, or those who were not fit to survive in normal society.
But what of the rest of society? What of those that have lived up to Darwin's survival of the fittest? Those that have the means to survive on their own. It seems to me that Moreau would be more rewarded in his research to see how his serums affected those in the majority who live "normal" lives.
A successful college student, business tycoon, or professional athlete, has no reason to go to the island. They don't need the money, they have all the opportunities they need right at home, and the majority of them have families that they would one day like to see again. So I challenge questers with this: How do you get an average person to the island?

Obviously, a free vacation. If your character has an overabundance of common sense and doesn't fall for the scam, they can be kidnapped onto the island through a subtle trap, probably set by a new 'friend' or old one, or even by co-workers. A jealous associate or rival could have it arranged. Win for them, win for Feral.
One other thing is a rehab program, like Oz or Dai. They're fairly normal, as achoholism is a growing problem in teens and Dai became disabled as a result of an accident. I know that the average person suffers from a great deal of stress - Maybe stress rehab for the tycoon or athlete? An island is a prime location for rehab, for its peacful serenity and its restricted access from and to the outside world, where no one could judge a person by his/her problems.
Anyway, I've run out of ideas. Maybe after chugging some Crystal Lite I'll get some.

True, a "vacation" would be good, and so would rehab. The only problem is, what of their families and friends? Because when your son/daughter/brother/sister seems to dissapear from the face of the Earth, you're not just going to sit around twiddling your thumbs. So perhaps a faked death? Maybe their plane "crashed" on their way to the island, or perhaps a staged overdose/murder?

Overdose is probably your best bet, it's more believable than a murder or death unless he/she was the kind that had lots of enemies. As for the fake death, Moreau wants healthy subjects, so he'd have to steal a fairly healthy person for a subject. If that person was fairly healthy, no one would believe the lie that that person just... Died. One downside is that all these options leave a body behind, and the parents/friends would want to see the body for their reasons. It's confusing grammar, so don't worry, I'm re-reading this and I'm getting confused, too. For the plane crash, it's fairly plausible, but why would they be flying over the Burmuda in the first place? Planes and ships go haywire there.
But one excuse I was going to use was that Feral sent a letter to the parents - Dai, shortly after regaining the use of her legs from rehab, almost drunk herself to the point of achohol overdose and either set fire to her room, thus leaving no body, or decided to take a dunk in the sea, still drunk, and drowned somewhere. Both left no body and thus could not be argued with.
Or just that she decided to take a swim and drowned.
Also, one of the things about vacation and rehab is that to make it a more 'island' experience, they can tell the subjects and parents/friends that there is no e-mail and telephone links to ensure that they are totally relaxed and/or rehabilitate faster. They can say only mail is allowed so the parents/friends don't freak out, and never show the subjects the mail. Feral could then write fake responses, praising how good Feral is and so-and-so.

Oh, not just die. A freak accident, perhaps? The gas light went out on the stove. Let sit for a few days, add a spark and boom. Dental records could easily be faked by a company with such influence and cash. About the plane/boat wreck, it doesn't even have to be near Burmuda. All the relatives have to know is that the boat sank/plane crashed in route while the new subject is whisked away to the island. And the best part is, the resort/rehab clinic could be completely legitimate

Mm. Electrical/gas/chemical explosion is good, and they could always use fake bones or something for the 'remaining' parts. The problem is for the crash is that a boat/plane crash would have loads of scandal by the media; they'd still be searching for some survivors and might get a whiff of Moreau's Island.
But the accidental death is pretty good, depending how they 'die'.

So I challenge questers with this: How do you get an average person to the island? All good things come to an end, so how about the 'typical' movie plot of a successful guy losing everything? He has a fling with someone at work, the wife finds out and devorices him, he loses his house, he gets worse at his job because the wife isn't letting him see his kids, so they 'let him go to reorginise his life'. So he's homelss, struggling to stay afloat when it's been easy riding before hand and in despiration he manages to get onto the island. *shrugs* How he gets on the island now is the question biggrin

Drawing on the death problem, It doesn’t necessarily have to be something of spectacular proportions. Every-day average things could occur.
(Warning, the following is a tad bit morbid.) One cover-up could be the said person was raped, and murdered. As far as the 'evidence' goes, the murderer (Something like this aired on the public news the other day.) mercilessly 'chopped her up into several pieces and buried her at the dump.' For evidence, pictures of cow meat (with bones and such) buried in trash could be sent to the family in question.
As for children-teens and a few adults, a 'kidnapping' could occur. One of those cases where everyone searches in vain, but never finds them.
Depending on the person, ‘drowning’ and ‘catching of fire’ are possibilities. In few cases, the bodies are so grotesque that a viewing (Sometimes even to families) are out of question.
For some more cheerful scenarios, the Mormon religion sends young men (and young women) on missions for two years. Usually they are sent to different countries or across continent (To avoid the feeling of homesickness). A fake mission departure could arrive in the mail, or young missionaries could be kidnapped off the planes and taken to the island. Fake notes from the missionaries could be sent home to reassure their safety. If two years runs up it could be said they caught in a plague, and their body was burned to help prevent the spreading of plague.
A person could go to meet a ‘pen pal’ and to live with them for a certain amount of time. Once again, if time runs out they could have died of natural causes or even murder/suicide.
The above may also work for a foreign exchange student program.

A spy for a goverment agency, that is trying to defeat Doctor Moreau and even goes o the island posing as a shiprecked sailor. Or religous purging, Like an extremist sect of any of the christan based religons. The Phineas Priesthood http://www.adl.org/backgrounders/an_phineas.asp is an excellent example, except they have actullaly killed to get ther point across. Or on a totally unrelated manner a breakout from a jail house and an escaped convict makes his way to the island.

*Warning, dont take my idea. I'm gonna use it, foo. scream *
Actualy I wanted my charicture to be in da fbi, and she was gonna come to try and investigate da connection between the mystery steroid and da inclining death and missing cases. Da rest of da fbi ignore her, denying her acsess to govermental funds or any backup. She has to solve dis case alone. When she gets to da island, Moreau turns her into whatevah he wants (I'm leavin' this to da doctors. I dont have any animal in particular.) further preventin' her from tellin' da world about Dr. Moreau's illigal plans and da connection between the '?' drug and him. Sweet, huh?

If if i get in, I'm using this one, so don't take it! I got a certified for both lifeguarding and C.P.R., I had three different jobs, each one had a better rate per hour, and I hopped from job to job. So I thought maybe I could base a character that jumped at a high salary, at a "local“ island, with transportation and dining expenses paid for the duration of the visit, not knowing his would be permanent. Then he’ll probably turn into a lionfish style merfolk, with a tail and he has to slither like that.
