While meandering around www.musogato.com/avatar , I randomly looked at Appa's trading card and it said that the Air Nomads suppossedly learned Airbending from the Flying Bisons...

So here it is: We now know that the Earthbenders learned Earthbending from the badger-mole, the Waterbenders learned Waterbending from the Moon, and the Airbenders learned Airbending from the flying bison... So what did the Firebenders learn Firebending from? The sun? Ionno, toss ideas around!

(Oh, and randomly, while searching around tv.com , I found a forum saying how Ty Lee might be of Air Nomad descendance. I quote:

1. Ty Lee: Part Air Nomad? | 06/05/2006 7:30pm
I'm betting a lot of people are thinking the same thing: does Ty Lee have Air Nomad blood in her veins? She does seem a lot like one of the Air Nomads: she has grey eyes, she's a lot slimmer than other Fire Nation girls, and she's care-free and agile. All of these are traits of the Air Nomads. Coincidence? I think not.

If she is part Air Nomad, who do you think her ancestor is? I'm leaning toward Afiko the Betrayer from the TCG card, who aided the Fire Nation in the genocide of the Air Nomads. Since he was a loyal servant of the Fire Nation, he would be considered amongst the nobility, which would account for Ty Lee's noble standing.

Anyone wish to discuss or comment?

And I am done with my ranting. Feel freee to discuss (anyone who reads this)

EDIT: Yeah, at Comic Con, I asked one of the main Animators from Avatar, but he didn't know. They have a whole book on the history of stuff, but he hasn't read it all.

Oh and the Ty Lee thing, I just BARELY noticed... While figuring out how to create her costume so I can cosplay as her for next year's Ani-Con and Comic Con (I'm also going as Katara) I realized... not only does she act like an airbender, and look like an airbender, and have the qualities shouting it... did anyone also notice that she dresses like one too? I am so slow...

Volcanoes? gonk

Not to mention that Ty Lee's face structure is, like, exactly the same as Aang's...and she even moves like an airbender.

Afiko sounds very plausible!

Yeah, it does sound like that could be the case if Ty Lee had Air Nomad blood in her somewhere...

Hmm.. Actually, a volcano does seem like something that someone could learn firebending from. I don't exactly know how though. ^^;
Maybe a volcano's eruptions and sudden tremors are like the quick, ferocious attacks that evoke the uncompromising danger of fire, and the people copied that? That's kind of like the waterbenders and the moon.

That's my take on the volcano theory anyway. sweatdrop

I suspected Ty Lee of not being entirely firebender as soon as I saw her. She's the only firebender I can recall seeing with an eye color other than gold/brown, and she doesn't have uberpale skin like most do. Sounds likely.

And for the firebenders, I'm going with the sun. Firebendering is diametrically opposed to Waterbending in every way, so iit makes sense. : O

Hmm.. *nods* That works too...
I guess we'll just have to wait until the series tells us how Firebenders got their powers to know the true answer... sweatdrop
I don't mind waiting though. 3nodding

You can't learn firebending from the sun. It just sits there. O=<

rofl It does provide heat and keep Earth rotating around it though, but I guess it really does just sit there...
I'm gonna stick with the volcano theory a lil more...

Volcanos seem very likely to me.

I tried to think of what could resemble blowing fire out of a mouth and all I could think of were volcanos or Dragons (from the performance in the Betrayer episode)

I'm guessing there's a creature that hasn't been introduced to the series yet that would explain the origin of firebending.

I think that they might've learned it from a dragon.......just a thought...because Avatar Roku's animal guide was a dragon.

Yeah, but we already have two bendings that were learned from animals...And one that was learned by some thing else, the moon.
