I frequently get a cramp in my sides wenever I play DDR. Stretching helps but not always. My parents say it's when I eat food before I play but sometimes I don't even eat before DDR and it happens. Does anyone have this pain too? I wish I could treat it... confused

Sometimes I'd get really bad cramps in the back of my calves after awhile. Felt like someone took a fistfull of muscle and started twisting it.
Other than that, not much else. Although, since I've been a home version player for about a year and a half straight, when I go back to the arcades, using the bar hurts my back. D;

That happens to me after I drink a lot a pop and run or when I dont work out enough... do you play DDR regularly or only like a few times a week? it could just be your not in shape enough or your stomache isnt used to the muscle tenses.

Hm. . . I get them in my calfs too. . . How much do you play DDR? 'cause I play a few hours each day when possible. I'm guessing 1un4r does about the same.
Also, what style do you play with? As in, how to you hold your arms and how do you move your body? 'cause I have loose arms (hang them at my sides, use them for balance when I start to fall over), move from my center (prevents abdominal cramps), don't do crossovers, and I hunch my back.

So basically RiverDance style? That is basically how I do it too. Never experienced any kind of cramps though.

Well, the calf pains are more just pains from playing way too much, not cramps. xP But, yeah, that's the style I use, unless I'm falling over. For instance, if I'm playing Afronova x2 Heavy, I like. . . flail. xP I suck at Afronova because it really stresses crossovers.

Well, I play DDR like, 8-9 times a week. I'm a heavy player if that's what you mean by style. I don't really work out 'individual muscles' but I don't think that I'm out of shape. confused

Based on the fact that the hardcore/semi-hardcore players (and me. . . I'm not even quasisemidemihardcore.) get pain in their ankles and calfs, and the other people all get cramps, I'd say it had something to do with something. wink

A good warming-up prevents most sport-related injuries. dont forget the cool-down. this is to prevent overstressing the muscles, going to regular mode directly from sport mode can be as hazardous as no warming-up..

My remedy for this, is to learn to play with EXTREME shortcuts on your movement and energy use.
If you jump around a lot and stop the pad a bit much, try and practice sliding over the pad more and get to know the patterns and how to do them with the least amount of energy possible. If you can do short sections using a minimal amount of energy, then you'l be able to do many more before you get cramps. Hope it helps. biggrin
