Just wondering, I don't know if anyone elses parents do this, but, like, is there anyone else who's parents won't let them wear like shirts that automatically point out you're jewish? Like the "everyone loves a jewish girl" or the "jew in the box" shirt from Haddassah? My dad said we can't because of like anti-semitism and like setting yourself up for wrong attention. Does anyone else have rules like this? question question question

I wanted to get a shirt a few months back that said "Im Jew-ish" which I wanted because I thought it was neat because it pointed out that I am a jew, but dont go to services much or really participate in things which I should...but my parents wouldnt allow it gonk

LOL, I thought this was gonna be a tsnius thread. xd
I don't have anything especially against those shirts - I think they're amusing. I wouldn't wear them myself, but I don't think they promote anti-semitism or anything. In fact, I think they're the opposite. As long as we can laugh as ourselves, we're beating anti-semitism.
I can see, maybe, if you live in a redneck part of the country where there are a lot of anti-semetic people, you wouldn't want to advertise that you're Jewish like that all the time in such a casual way, maybe?

Heck no. I have a shirt for my college that the Hillel puts out that's the college name transliterated into Hebrew. My dad had NO problem with me getting it (I got it when I was a senior in high school, after I had decided what college I was going to, but before I was out of the house.)

Furtently I'm from Israel so I would go with this kind of shirts but when I'm aboard I dont wear anything that declers clearly that I'm jewish, I wear an hat over my kippa and my Tzizit is hidden... I dont wear anything with Magen David or Hebrew words on it and on top of all if I'm in france I almost never talk Hebrew....
Yeah, maybe I'm a bit paranoid.... sweatdrop

Of course, so am I, but I'm also perverse, and something in me wants to go to France wearing a huge Magen David necklace, and a shirt proclaiming my Judaism, or something.

Meh, I would've just told my parents where to stuff it back when I lived at home. sweatdrop I did have a shirt that said "jew-cy," which was adorable.
Anyway, nowadays I wear my magen david necklace all the time. I prob'ly wouldn't take it off no matter where I went.
And, hey Elfie <3, do people in France even recognise Hebrew when they hear it? Silly French people. rolleyes
