As the white paws of a tiny female curled against the burning sands of the Firekin desert lands, a butterfly flitted in front of her face and she frowned. Tarnished golden eyes lit up angrily and her white tipped paw struck out and flattened the beautiful insect to the ground in half an instant. On impact the bugs insides spilled and were sucked into the sands.
A sadistic grin passed over Khepri's face and she flicked the darkened end of her tail gently to aleviate herself of the fly that had been biting at her scarred side for a moment or two now. Destroying beauty was the cub's speciality. She hated all things beautiful and pure, because she wasn't as beautiful or as beautifully marked as some of her siblings and cousins were. That irriated her though the female would never let any of the other Firekin pride know of it.
A sigh floated from her white muzzle and the female started walking towards the oasis she'd been angled for again. The cool water would help her quite a bit. Or at least she felt like it would, in all honesty it didn't matter with her thin fur and white belly, she could just lay on her back and be fine. She was simply a**l. ninja

Ra sauntered across the sands casually, thinking of far off places. He loved the desert, loved it with all his soul, could feel the heat of the sand underfoot even late at night when all the heat was gone. It was tied to him, part of his thoughts and dreams, all he had ever known and he adored it. Still it was tainted, tainted by the goddess who seemed to hold all of them in her thrall. So he thought of other lands, lands where lions existed not as some god's courtesy to the world but as wild, free and feral beings.
But the black lion could never truly speak what he felt, those words seem to be given form by his brother's tongue. His voice was found through his paws, through physical strength, that was his forte and always had been.
He looked up, taken off guard by the figure not too far off, blinking his blood red eyes once.
"Hello." he stated calmly.

Eyes tarnished golden in the sunlight flicked over to gaze wih slight scorn at the black juvenile lion that had walked up close to her. Just from smell she could tell that he was related to Naraka and Nuri, both of whom she'd had the displeasure laced with pleasure of meeting. Nuri had at least seemed strong, Naraka... she wasn't sure of. His wagging tongue and overconfidence annoyed Khepri to no end.
But this male... he didn't seem to have that same feeling about him. What she could sense was immense violence and physical strength. Caution then.
Turning and sitting not that far from him, yet far enough for her to twist and dodge if something happened, Khepri nodded her head to the black male.
"Hello. Wha's yo'r name? Or do ya wan' mahn firs'?" Khepri asked smoothly of him. Her dark tipped tail twitched across the sands and moved to curl around her hind legs.
She could smell the water not far off, if he felt the need to stop and talk with her, she might attempt to move him over in that direction. Why not sit in the shade after all? Not that she minded the sun, it just made her feel strange, making her dream of other places where the lions believed and trusted in more than one goddess that had blessed and cursed them with sand. A sand ocean was what they'd been given, though Khepri believed the Firekin were strong, she didn't believe that any of the other gods would do much harm to them. So why only trust the one?
You're rambling cub.
Just shut up and wait for an answer.
Khepri huffed and dug her paws into the burning sands to take the burn away from the yakking voices in her head. ninja

It took Ra only a few brief moments to recognise the female before him. Naraka had mentioned her as one of the cubs who had gotten his back up, actually going so far as to attack him. Ra actually hoped she would attack him just so he'd have an excuse to show off his muscles and strength. But she didn't show any inclination to do so, only a polite offer of her name was offered to him. He raised a brow, surprised and simply stated. "Uh, I'm Ra." He didn't see why he shouldn't give his name.
Bowing his head he grinned. "Now you can tell me your name."

"Khepri. So then yo' are Naraka's brother. The one Ah hear is so strong." Khepri frowned for a moment and walked around the black juvenile slowly. He seemed stronger than the other cubs she'd seen around. But then he was a good deal older after all.
"Why do yo' use strength when yo' can use yah mind?" She asked for a moment, not exactly expecting Ra to respond. He seemed a lot less talkative than the other cubs she'd met.
Walking back around him she bowed her head to Ra just as she had to Nuri. She wasn't disrespectful, just curious. She was always curious. What was the world without curiosity after all. If it weren't for Khepri's curiosity she wouldn't have met the god she'd met not that long ago, or gotten the shimmering scars running down her side. There were always pros and cons though.
Glancing over at the water she thought for a moment. "Why don' we go tha' way? At least then Ah can get a drink." Khepri asked him politely. She didn't want to make Ra mad, but then she almost wanted to pounce him just to see if what she'd heard about him was right. If he really was vicious and stronger than any cub born. It made her grin inwardly actually. ninja

Ra nodded. "I am Naraka's brother but as for strength, that's all relative I think. It's not like I could take on my father." he grinned "Though I think that could just be a matter of time if I work hard enough at keeping in top shape." The lion was almost permanently training his legs and agility, as though priming himself to fight some nonexistant enemy.
He paused, dwelling on her question before answering "Why use your mind when you have strength?" It went both ways really, he thought.
He eyed the female, wondering if she really was the lioness Naraka had been talking about. She didn't seem that bad really. He nodded when she spoke of heading down to the water, he was always thirsty thanks to his black pelt so the offer was welcome. He nodded. "Okay. I'm thirsty too."

Khepri froze and turned to stare at Ra for a long moment, her eyes shimmering as she stared bluntly. Had he just asked her why she used her mind rather than her strength?
"Ah suppose there's a time an a place fo' evahthin'." Khepri said lowly and almost to herself as she glanced one last time at the juvenile and trotted a little ahead of him on the hot sands. "Yo're pretteh smart. Ah'd almos' say yah smarter than yo' brother. But he just schemes abou' gods and such, so Ah dun know."
Her dark tail swished gently over the sands and she looked down at her paws quietly as she began to walk slowly, waiting to see if he would come up beside her. She knew that fighting was dumb and could often get one killed, her scars shimmering on her left side showed that well. But somewhere deep inside of her the will to play and play rough and tumble-like surged around in her belly. She'd have given anything to be rid of those voices and be able to lunge over at Ra playfully and not get hurt. But that wouldn't happen in the world that goddess had given them. No, sometimes Khepri wished that the Firekin worshipped more than just one goddess.
"So are yo gonna come?" She said suddenly, turning and looking at him with golden eyes. A grin slid over her muzzle and she flipped her tail playfully at him in a "Let's race" gesture and she bound off across the sand. ninja
