Normally, a lone lion did not attempt to bring down a gazelle.

Normally, however, a lion was not alone. Triv had to eat something after all, and it was a very small, very limpy looking gazelle. It shouldn't be too hard for the male to bring it down. As long as he didn't give himself away.

Brown and white patches flexed in the dying sunlight as he stalked forward, ears pinned tight against his head, tail waving slightly, brushing against overlong brush. There, on the outside edge, grazing peacefully. He wouldn't have to get too much closer at all and it would be his.

Another step, lowering himself to the ground even further, large paws muffling the sound of twigs and anything else engulfed beneath them.

Another, and he could hear the thing breath. Not much further, just a little closer and he would be within reach. He breathed in slowly and exhaled, grass tickling at his nose slightly.

Just a little closer...

The day had progressed, and Kilua found herself dozing upon the heat drawing rock ridge just adjacent to the large stretch of savannah. Some small animals grazed in the distance, and throughout her half sleep, a pale blue eye rolled forwards to try to catch their movement. But before it could, her vision blurred and she returned back to her slumber, the occasional waves of heat prickling the fur behind her shoulders.

Moments passed before something stirred her. It wasn’t a noise, or even a scent- but some other kind of subconscious feeling that cooled a spot behind her ear. Her eyes widened somewhat and she turned her head, faintly gazing about the grasslands with a dim wonderment. There was a gazelle in the distance, and the sight of it made her lick her paw. If only she could hunt...

Well- mother did that for her. She should be grateful. Yes. Quickly she corrected her thoughts, and nodded her head steadily.

A flicker at the corner of her eyes- in the distance, she noticed a male stalking the gazelle. At once her heart quickened, and she took a few nervous steps backwards until she was seated. She met few lions, and even fewer that were adults. This would need some caution.

Triv edged forward. One more. Just one more slow, steady step. Then, a flurry of movement, still low, but moving fast. It took only seconds for the herd to notice him and they were running. With a quick turn he cut the weak one off from the rest, running it into a rocky area.

Slowly, steadily, he began catching up, watching the small movements of the animal to predict it's larger movements.

It would have worked quite well, if not for the fact that the very moment he intended to leap at the creature it took a sharp turn, aparently startled by something.

It became ever so evident what startled it when he barraled into another lion, too fast to even catch more then a flash of grey.

"Augh!"

Kilua had barely a moment to react when the large lion suddenly plowed into her. She had only barely noticed him when he started his hunt- but once the gazelle had gone rocketing past her, she realized she was in trouble. The brute crashed into her before her scream could even begin, toppling harshly against the rock. The wind knocked out of her sharply, and she inhaled it back in a quick sputter, before the small female started to flail.

“Uhhfff!” She wheezed, struggling for the male to get off of her. Somewhere in her mind a voice was telling her to be a little more regal and dignified about the matter, but there was no settling her. “Please get off of me!” She croaked in pitiful surprise, pushing her back legs. She did not extend her claws however; and her complaints and jostling must have seemed like a kitten’s pawing against the older male’s skin.

The gazelle must have been thanking it’s luck stars- for she could hear the sound of hooves striking the earth slowly fade into the distance. Trying to keep her breathing in order, she swallowed a dry lump in her throat, and tried to relax.

The whole thing had taken but seconds. One moment he was about to enjoy a fine meal, better then he had in many days, the next he was making quite a fool of himself and abusing ladies, both of which were firmly against his code.

"Ah, I'm sosorry," he managed, attempting to untagle himself and springing back from the other lion, embarassment painted on his face, half hidden by his now very messy mane.

He was much, much to old for this kind of silliness.

His ears went back and he looked down, much like a cub caught sneaking away or playing too rough, and added, "I didn't see you, I am really very sorry miss," managing what might have been a nod, or perhaps just a shake to clear his head.

What an oafish thing to do, he had run into a child!

Kilua rolled back, finally freed from beneath the older male’s body. She rolled to the side and panted, before returning her eyes towards him. His mane obscured most of his face, and curiously, she leaned forward to try to see beneath it. When she realized what she was doing she quickly retreated herself, fixing her composure. “I’m sorry-“ Kilua stammered, shaking her head.

“I didn’t know you were going to be coming this way, or I would have moved.” An adult male. Was it hard to believe that in her lifetime, she had known only one- and he, who was not her father? She was curious about men, particularly older ones.

Shyly, she stepped off the stone, and walked to the side of him, her face plastered with that kind of interest. Something...familiar about him...

“Who– are you?” Kilua asked, her wide eyes blinking.

Triv shook his head and attempted to compose himself as best he could.

Starting to feel a little less like a fool and a little more like himself he straightened up facing the younger female with a more typical, although still slightly sheepish looking, smile.

"No, it was my fault, I was not paying attention."

Confused by her aparent interest in his person he continued, blinking, "My name is Triv'an, a traveler," he nodded his head politely, "may I ask who you are?"

“Ki-“ She stammered, her eyes somewhat averted. “Kilua.” The creature before her seemed about as awkward as she felt- but, she couldn’t help but be somewhat bemused. Familiar...but, not in the way that implied she had met him before. Something else.

“A traveler? From where?” The grey female questioned, curling the end of her tail. It seemed like everyone was a traveler nowadays! The thought left her paws aching, but she knew better then to think herself even remotely capable.

"I'm sorry about your food." She apologized again.

"Kilua? Pleased to meet you," he said, sitting down easily. He was still a little dizzy, and felt as though if he continued to stand he might fall over again later, which would really just add insult to injury.

He considered her question, closing his eyes for a moment. It would be so much less work to just say nowhere, which was as much of a starting point as any other for him, but it would require, he thought, too much explination. Besides, he wans't nearly cool enough to pull of that kind of shadey statement.

"Lots of places, but the mistweaver lands I suppose could be counted as a starting point."

He laughed and added, "Don't worry about it, it was my own foolishness. They say hunger is a good lesson you know."

“Mistweaver?” Kilua half mouthed. It was a word that seemed familiar, and yet she’d never heard it before. Had her mother once whispered it...? Or, had that been a dream? Sheepishly, Kilua stalked a bit to the left, unable to settle. “Where is that? I’m sorry- I have not been much past this place...and, I have met only a few.” The female corrected, trying to keep her voice as regal as her mother’s always seemed to sound. “But...something about it...” She uttered, glancing to the side.

“Something about you too. Something is familiar. But I can’t-“ She shoved it away. This was not how she had been taught to act. “I’m sorry.” She apologized again. “Maybe it’s just been too long since I have spoken.”

And, almost forever since she had last spoken to Hodari; the man, who although lived with her family, was not her father. Her mother never seemed to talk about him, so she only assumed he had died.

"Oh yes, the Mistweaver lands," Triv's eyes clouded over slightly, lost in a reverie of memories. His child hood, his youngest years as an adult, most of the happiest times he could remember happened in that valley...

"It's a valley far from here. It used to be lush and beautiful, but I hear it is a desert now. You might have heard of it, many years before we were born it was quite a famous place."

He smilled in a solemn way, saddened still by the memories and past, now far out of reach.

"Familiar? I'm sorry, I can't help you there, but don't worry about it any, talking with you has been a pleasure I did nothing to earn," he grinned, remembering his show of stupidity earlier.

"What about you, are you a pride lion?"

“Oh...” Kilua spoke sadly, and flicked her ear. It was a badlands now? Not that she had ever known it to be a good lands- but with a name like mistweaver, she had conjured up images that seemed to contrast with the traveler’s information. “My...” She paused, and shook her head. “Nevermind- it feels like I’ve heard the word before.”

As far as her pride situation- that was something she knew all too well.

“No, we don’t have a pride. I live with my mother, and my brothers. I think we may have used to...but, not anymore. Mother doesn’t like to talk about things like that.” Kilua noted that perhaps she should follow suit. It was all aimless curiosity anyways.

Carefully, the grey female finally settled, her back curling as she did in a very unregal way.

"Ah, perhaps, perhaps," Triv said, a certain amount of faked and true wisdom. He seemed harmless and not exactly bright, but you did make your way though life alone without a certain amount of knowledge of things and the way they worked. Triv was wise when he needed to be.

Triv tilted his head again, shoulder twitching slightly. No pride? Well, it was far from uncommon, still, he supposed with a family that large it might as well have been one.

"Well, there is probably a reason. Mothers are quite smart you know," he said, nodding with a small smile. It was a bit of a joke, although not a good one. Well, his mother always seemed very smart to him.

"What brings you out here, may I ask?"
