as a PE credit? All of our band mom's are trying to get it as a PE credit. I mean, we do more work the all the PE classes. Maybe even all of them combined! So what are the opinions?

Band IS a p.e. Credit, if you have 4 years of marching season that equals two years of p.e. At least here in TX.

Eh, at my school, school sports aren't even considered a PE credit, so Band's got a snowball's chance in hell of that happening.

Ahhh... I never thought of that before. That would be sweet. I don't know the rules at my school about it, but I doubt it.

Marching band is offered as fine arts credit in Walled Lake. Then, they're cutting off the alternatives for the required 1.0 PE credits that band kids rely on because their concert schedule won't allow them to take it during the day, especially if (like me) they have a language as well. Sports aren't accepted either. They're cutting off the "zero hour" program (which was horrible; you go to the school at six AM and take it before school hours) for normal PE. You used to be able to freaking bowl eight games, record your score, and get credit, but not anymore. I hear the reason is the State wants to make sure you can swim. I say, take me to a damn lake and throw me in. If I float, hey, awesome. If not, well, that's my problem, isn't it?

My band director tried to get it made a PE credit, so that more people would do marching band so they wouldn't have to do gym, but the school didn't go for it.

You guys are incredibly lucky. Marching band at my school counts for nothing whatsoever. I even got a lower grade in P.E. because it was my last class and I had to miss it a lot for marching band. I really wish it would have been counted for my P.E. credits....that would've made everything so much easier....

At my school, band counts as 1 credit of a performming art per year your in it and then we have a freshman band camp evry year for upcoming high schoolers that if you attend you can either claim half a PE credit or 90 hours of community service.

-[[Take a little bit of time everyday to reflect on bits and pieces of life. Relax and view life to its max.]]-
Requests like that are happening everywhere. At my school, my BDs were one of the first people to get marching band as a PE credit. It's the same here: four years of marching band = two years PE credit. And fine arts, of course, but that's concert season, I believe. I counts for electives after two years as well. Ah, the love...

God, ya'll are lucky! We've been sayin' that MB should count as PE credit, too. Bein' in band gives us Fine Arts credit. And our head BD tries to get everyone in the band to be in MB too. He thinks if you're gonna be in band, you should be part of the whole program [and I kinda agree with that]. But as a freshman, PE is considered a 'core class' and not an elective [so we got 3 electives instead of 4 last year]. As long as you pass gym as a freshman, you never have to take it again in high school. It is true that we as marchers do the same work as we do in Phys. Ed. so why not allow it to count as a PE credit?!
