Every show our theatre company has a tradition of putting a lemon in some form or aanother on stage for at least one scene, sometimes it is a drawn picture, other times it is an abstract painting, o the actual fruit, sometimes it is in a different spot every night because our director tells us no it looks to bad there. Does anyone else have someting like this

There's always a little bit of The Man of La Mancha in every set. Our graduating class this year was the last year involved with it and we gave the underclassmen EXPLICIT INSTRUCTIONS that the tradition was to be upheld. The background was amazing and the show was amazing, so we refuse to let it die. That's that.

We have a running joke about Splenda. And gnomes. Every opportunity for the audience to see Splenda or gnomes, by golly, they will be seen. That's not an always thing, though.

We also have a pre-show ritual called Circle Up that HAS TO HAPPEN or the show doesn't happen where we all hold hands with our hands crossed right over left, and somebody (usually a senior or a freshman) says something inspirational and then they squeeze the hand next to him or her and it goes like that in a circle in silence until the leader gets a squeeze on the opposite hand and then we clap and scream end it by saying "Let's ******** this puppy". Usually somebody will say "If you're not having fun, you're not doing it right", at which point you get yelled at and things thrown at you, because everybody hates the kid who started it. But the saying of it and subsequent throwing of things is becoming a tradition in itself. xd

In a theater place I did some shows for, it was a tradition to have one of the kids at the upper limit of the age range and who would be leaving the next year to say something inspirational and do the "penny ritual" back stage before the last show

Basically, in Ancient Greece, when they did a play, they would drop a coin backstage, and if it didn't move at all during the performance, it meant the gods were pleased and the play would go well, but if it moved, it meants the gods were angry and the play would be a disaster, so they would drop a penny backstage

'Twas happy : )

two directors ago at my school there was this stuffed dog that he would always get on in the shows in one way or another. example: in You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, at the end Snoopy came on holding it. He was before my time, so when I would watch the shows that my brother was in, I owuld always look for the dog.

we never did a lemon, we would draw a funny picture right before the first showering. for an example we did 'grapes of wrath' and brought in dirt to cover the stage, so we used that is our canvas but you could only see the picture from the balcony which added to the humor cause our director ran lights from there and about have way she asked if there was some kind of drawing on the stage to which the response was no, i cant see anything

We did a egyptian murder mystery. (I was the killer/mummy/rich spoiled nephewe) it was the most fun play ever. Anyways one part told about the mad goats of the ancient king Kabdu-Madu... So we had this monkey thingy made out of a coconut... now we put that somewhere in every set because the ghost of king Kabdu-Madu brings us good luck lol!

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I give up. I usually have two windows going on Gaia because my computer is so slow, and now I'm just furcking everything up.

I'm soooooooooooooooo sorry for furcking the thread in the butt.

Our school also does a circle thing, where we put our right feet in and cross our arms right over left to hold hands with the people next to us. Generally, the director and one or two of the seniors say something (nondenominational) about being completely awesome. And then we 'pass the energy' by squeezing each others hands in a circle as fast as possible. Then we say 'There's magic in the theatre, the theatre is magic.' and we un cross our arms and turn around with out letting go of hands.

Oh, and we have a ghost, and if there's anyone in the fly space during the show, we make a sacrifice to her. Her name is Tabby.

At my school, there's 3 different things that go on before any show.

We all go back in the dressing rooms and join our hands together in a huge circle and our Director (he's totally insane, I love him to death) and us pray for a good show, then we raise all our hands together in a collective 'A-MEN!'

Then all the boys go into the boy's dressing room and do some stupid chant-thing, I don't know what it is, girl's aren't allowed to know... But from outside the door, it sounds retarded. xd

But the girls... In our dressing room, we have this fake raccoon pelt-thing and ALL of the girls, even stage crew have to touch it. Every girl HAS to touch it, otherwise we'll have a bad show. biggrin

And then there's the collective hushing of people who're going around saying, "Don't say 'it'!" 'It' is, of course, Macbeth... We're all superstitious weirdos. xd

At my high school, we all have to circle up before the show and do the passing on the squeeze thing after our director has said something inspirtational. It's always depressing during the last show where she has the seniors in the middle and she talks about how much she'll miss them and stuff.
Another thing we do is sign somethong on the stage, one of them was a book, one of them we all signed a ribbion and tied them on the railings of the stairs. Malo says it's like we're christening the stage as ours.

At my school we had cd players in the dressing rooms so we could listen to music as we got ready. One day someone brought in a Cd that had Bohemian Rhapsody on it and since everyone knew the words it became a tradition to listen to that song before every performance. We also had a tradition where after every performance, all the acrtors and techies run off the stage and out the door to the parking lot where we all screamed as loud as we could. We always got yelled at by the directors for it, but we didn't care. ^^

My school's tradition is the rose ceremony. What it is is the director gives a speach before closing, talking about how our show couldn't exist without each and every person. He calls everyone up (first band if its a musical, then Techs, then actors, going in order of smallest to largest part. Ending with the SM) telling them exactly of their importance to the show.

My personal tradition is my legging snap. In every show I've ever been in, I have worn either tights, fishnets, leggings, or general spandex. So it's become a tradition to snap whatever type of legging I happen to be wearing for that show. Otherwise, we'll have a bad show. I even teched once and was required to wear black leggings just for the snap.
I decided that when I graduate, I shall come back just to tell a freshman to continue the legging snap.

before every performance, we have greenroom.

which involves an energy circle, when our teachers talk to us, and give us a heads up, and then we do the squeeze everyone's hand as fast as we can around in a circle.

we do counts of claps [ usually 8 ] seeing if we can get it the first time. it never happens.

then the 'all for one and one for all, let's go out and break a leg' meanwhile bouncing up and down, and then kicking a leg out at the last part.

then there's the funky chicken.

yay show rituals!

and that's just for shows.

not to mention festival...

My school has a few:

- Before every preformance, we all (techies included) go onto the floor level of the stage (we always have two levels) and hold hands in a circle, right over left, and we chant "energy energy all around it brings you up it brings you down" x number of times, starting off whispering and crouch-bouncing, ending up shouting and jumping as high as we can (this sometimes becomes a problem for the shorter ones of us). Then at the last one, we shout "ENERGY ENERGY ALL AROUND IT BRINGS YOU UP -" then we all shout a random funny line from the show.

- we all sign the backs of the set walls in sharpie

- we all sign the school posters for the show

- I am always pacing in a circle backstage before every preformance - its not a school tradition, it's a "me" habbit

- our quickchange room is co-ed, so we are all required to wear volleyball shorts and tank tops under everything, unless you don't care (which many of us dont)

- The AD that just left us ( crying ) started one that happened before every show. along with saying "break a leg", we go around shaking everyone's hand, looking them in the eye, and saying "I give you my best" I hope this one continues this year...

- Similar to the lemon, we have a teddy bear with a velcro-ed on head, and he is in every preformance. No clue how he'll fit into Les Mis this year... sweatdrop
