i didnt read this part very well so i have a question. In volume 5 when he says "get rid of it" did ryuk destroy the death note? Did he lose all memories of the death note? If so is that why hes actin all innocent? And is Ryuk gone forever?

Semi spoilers for those of you that aren't this far yet.
He didn't destroy the Death Note, but yes, he forfeited it and therefore all memories of it. So now he and L are chasing a killer that doesn't exist. And Ryuk will make a return, but (if memory serves) it'll be a while.

He didn't destroy it^^ He just forfeited it, and the other Death Note was buried in the human world. Light has deduced that, even without the memory of it, if they chase the 3rd kira and capture him there's a big possibility that he will get his hand on the note again.
