I thought it would be nice to have a thread about dealing with afro-turf, since we all have it. How do you wear yours? How do you deal with it? What tips & tricks do you have dealing with it? Got links? Got horror stories? funny stories? success stories? wtf stories?

Did you know: You're not supposed to drink caffinated beverages a week before relaxing your hair.

Hmm... 3nodding I like to keep my hair in box braids cuz It grows very well, But I let it breath for a while when I Hot comb it. I don't like perms cuz they mess with my scalp. What would you do if you didn't want dredz any more? I mean how do you take them out can any one answer that for me? xp

Just so everyone knows--even though this is a "black pride guild," there are some members who aren't black at all. 3nodding This doesn't have much to do with the topic, but I didn't know if the new people were aware.
Moving on...! xd
I relax my hair, oooohhh...at least once per year, lol. I am probably damaging it more by not keeping those albeit harmful chemicals in my hair, but I just never really think about re-relaxing until it's been a considerable length of time. xd
Between realxing, I straighten with a flat iron sometimes, other times I just comb it or brush it. I don't perform a lot of maintenance on my hair. I've got so many other things to do that my hair often times comes last. sweatdrop
Also, I rarely drink caffinated beverages anymore, but I didn't know it affected the performance of the relaxer... Does it? WHat supposedly happens if you do drink a Coke, then five minutes later, relax your hair?

I'm black, but I have that good hair, its curly and black. I usally just taper mine. I don't like getting it faded cuz it takes to long for it to go straight cuz it's so used to curling back and finally when it gets straight, it grows back.

Passion_Dragon Also, I rarely drink caffinated beverages anymore, but I didn't know it affected the performance of the relaxer... Does it? WHat supposedly happens if you do drink a Coke, then five minutes later, relax your hair? I'm not an expert. I really don't know why caffine is bad for a relaxer. I just saw it written on a "Do's & Don'ts" list at the hair salon a couple days ago.
my assumption is that it weakens the integrity of your hair (not the relaxer) making the hair more vulnerable to damage.

I guess I never mentioned what kind of hair I have. Okay. I have relaxed hair, and this week I dyed it for the first time everNote: I am not a stylist/cosmetologist/scientist. I'm here to learn and share. For other relaxed hair people: My hair stylist told me that after you dye your hair [for the first time] you need to reduce your relaxer to gentle (if you're using regular), and if you have extremely resistant hair (like me) you can keep the gentle relaxer on your hair longer to get the same results you'd normally get with your usual relaxer. he also said that i might want to switch to a no lye relaxer, but that might not be a tip relevant to everyone
