It was a pretty day at the compound, but two mages were not out there to enjoy the weather. Though that was a plus, the reason that Ahneta and Dacian were standing in front of the building that would become the school was not related to enjoying themselves.

"I still say we should just hire someone else to teach."

Ahneta's tone was dismissive, and skeptical. She didn't seem to fond of the idea of teaching, though they had already agreed to it long ago.

"These kids need to learn more then just basic education - they need to learn our histories, and to control their powers when they finally get them. Since you don't need to be out there constantly gathering funds now, you're the best choice..."

And honestly, she was probably the best teacher of the mages. Hadrian was no teacher, not in the least - and Dacian was too easily distracted. So while the children may not neccessarily always enjoy their class with Ahneta, they would learn.

The classes themselves...the guardians would have two choices: Send their Soul to a school outside the compound, or attend the one in the compound. The only requirement if one went outside was that the child still attend an afternoon class about the history of their world, and as they got older the requirements would grow - after all, they couldn't let children run around without understanding their powers.

Marc was feeling relaxed. Satiated, smug, satisfied. All these words applied to the man who had just gotten laid. Of course, it would probably apply to any man. Or any woman. Still, he was out walking, knowing that the mage he had a softness for wasn't in, and not wanting to distract him yet. Marc had some scruples, after all. And he, like any business man respected work.

The voices were hard to hear, but the figures weren't hard to spot. Especially the woman's and with a curious sense of fascination, he went towards them, a mere blip that grew bigger, and bigger and...

He frowned. He knew THAT one. The one that never seemed to be in a bad mood. And the other? Marc stared blatantly as if he had nothing better to do. And frankly, he didn't.

Which made everything alright, did it?

Thorn in the meanwhile, was out because he was nosy. Because work didn't seem that important when he owned a multi million dollar... corporation, and because, like always, he was out looking for food.

The emotional kind, of course.

And when he saw Marc? Well, he followed. Partially out of amusement, partially out of curiosity. He wanted to know if the man was out to meet their mage for some spontaneous nookie.

And if so, he wanted to interrupt. That was what he did best.

Remi was liking the idea of mid-day naps for Gavin. It gave her a chance to wander around and enjoy the compound while she could still see it in sunlight. She was still on a natural high from the night before, having met Stephan. Nothing happened, but she still met someone new.

She started to walk by the side of a building that she'd yet to know the purpose for. Once she heard voices, she perked up at the thought of more people. One of the voices sounded vaguely familiar.

Turning the corner she saw Dacian and a woman she didn't know. Immediately Remi felt very inadequate appearance-wise, seeing as the woman seemed amazingly put together. She failed to notice a certain other figure heading in the same direction, but that was probably a good thing.

Seeing that the two mages seemed to be in conversation, she thought maybe she'd just wave with a smile first. If they decided to talk to her, then she'd join in the conversation.

Ahneta did look very well put together; she was the sort of woman that automatically drew attention. Busty, well-dressed, thick hair and dark eyes...and she didn't seem to have that haughty arrogance around her that most women like her did.

Of course, that didn't mean she was flawless. There was something a bit...flirtaceous about her. Perhaps something even a bit too 'forward' in her behavior. Though there were many that wouldn't thing that a flaw...

Glancing up from her discussion with Dacian, she spied the two guardians - and beckoned them forward immediately. Maybe they could help solve their debate.

Dacian offered a smile to the two, before speaking up as they drew closer.

"Good afternoon!"

"I'm Ahneta. Do you two plan to send your children to a school outside the compound, or use the one that will be set up here?"

Very direct. But the coquettish smirk on her face made her seem a bit friendlier then her direct comment suggested.

Marc smiled, nodding at Dacian. "Dacian." he responded. "How have you been?" at the woman's question however, and her introduction, his eyes sharpened. Oh, was this the woman who bought in the income? Interesting.

"School?" his tone was somewhat wry. "I haven't thought so far yet." he had expected to send Haki to some prestigious boarding school, to get the best of her education and for his money. "Are there necessary subjects that she needs to take?"

Who knows? Maybe souls like hers worked differently from ones like his? "Will an outside curriculum cover her bases?"

He had sent his sectretary on a research expedition, looking for the best of the best. And now, he had doubts.

--

Thorn in the meanwhile, saw the woman. The dress. The eyes. And the hair. And immediatly, he zeroed in. "Marc." he said warmly, seeing the way the other man stiffened and his eyes darkened.

Hmmm. Was nothing okay between them yet?

"Hello." he turned to the group. The other girl looked cute. And the man? His smile was supicious. Maybe it was drug enduced.

But the woman. She was flirty, bright, bold. And he liked it.

"Hello." he arched a brow. "I'm Thorn."

When Ahneta beckoned them forward, she quicked her step to meet up with them. Ah, so this was the Ahneta that she'd heard about. But then there was Marc. At first she'd narrowed her eyes angrily at him, still not over the whole 'uniform' issue (she had thrown them in her closet in hopes of never wearing them), though quickly made it go away when Dacian smiled and Ahneta asked a question.

"Hey Dacian, long time no see," she smiled back, still a bit embarrassed at the tomato sauce stain incident. She reached out her hand to Ahneta in greeting, "I'm Remi. As for school, I was hoping to have him go to the one here."

She thought that answer was obvious. Weren't all the guardians doing the same? Apparently Marc was not. She turned when another man she'd never seen before entered the scene. Who was that? How the heck did he just come out of no where? She realized she was staring at him with a very confused expression, so she quickly smoothed it over and returned her gaze to the two mages. Maybe he was just another one of the guardians she hadn't met yet.

"We're trying to see what the guardians are interested in, at this point...but there will be some things that will have to be done here, regardless of whether they go to an outside school or not."

Boarding school...probably wouldn't be something they'd be enthusiastic about. How was a Soul supposed to learn about its heritage if it was going to a boarding school?

Dacian leaned against the short stone wall that followed the pathway up to the schol.

"The Souls will need to attend classes on our history and culture here, of course, as well as training for when they come into their powers. We'll cover everything for those that wish to attend school here, as well."

Tilting her head back slightly, Ahneta scanned the newcomer - hmm...she had looked at the security camera pictures of each guardian, so she would know them by sight - but he wasn't in one of them.

Distracted by Remi, she shook the other womans hand with a momentary smile before turning hawkish eyes back on Thorn.

"You. You're not a guardian, unless I'm further behind then I thought..."

Not threatening - just blunt.

Marc's eyes lit up when he saw Remiyah. "Remi!" he said, nodding his head as he looked her up at down. He frowned, and then arched a brow. "I thought you'd be wearing seomthing else."

It was ambiguous, but it still came out sounded rather... well, wrong. Standing there with a quick frown, he shook his head. "Although you look very nice today."

Deadpan expression. And then, seriousness.

"And when do their powers develop? She's been going for lessons at a rather well known place right now. I've been thinking of sending her off as she gets older. From childhood? She'll be back for holidays." he frowned. "Unless there isn't enough time?
And their powers. Will they be disruptive to normal life? For her in a foreign country." he amended.

Or something.

See? He was being such a good boy, paying attention. Marc needed to reward him later.

Thorn watched Remi with interest when Marc was finished bantering with her. His gaze was just as rude as hers was, but immediatly, someone else took most of his attention.

"You've got me red handed." he said, a wry smile on his face as he got closer. Displaying his hands, his smile deepened. "What gave me away?"

She looked more entertaining than the others.

Fighting the urge to roll her eyes at Marc's banter, she muttered a dry "thanks" before returning her attention to the more important conversation. Marc had asked basically everything she was wondering when it came to these 'powers.'

"I wasn't aware they were going to have powers," she said, slightly bewildered. Had Dacian mentioned that at their first meeting? She couldn't remember. "What kind of powers will they receive?"

She eyed Thorn slightly suspiciously. If he wasn't a guardian, what was he doing here? He had the air of someone very wealthy around him, kind of like Marc. Did they know each other?
PostPosted: Thu Jul 13, 2006 11:29 am

"We estimate that it...well, it will be different for each child. But they could develop anywhere from toddlers to teenagers - though the middle ground is most likely."

Blinking suddenly at Marc, Dacian frowned at him. "A foreign country? I don't believe that's something that could work...she needs to learn about her heritage, and the way we've been planning it is that those that attend other schools take classes on it either in the afternoon or weekends."

"And as for powers - well, normally we'd just be on the look out for mage-talent. But Hadrian has some concerns about that...he thinks that the energy used to bring them here will cause some more unusual talents to appear, though we don't yet know what those are."

Ahneta raised an amused eyebrow at Thorn, leaving the discussion of schooling to Dacian; he was smart, he could take care of it. She had more...interesting prospects at the moment.

"You don't look much like the other male guardians. Or the female ones for that matter, unless you're very skilled at hiding certain things," Coy, certainly. Telling the truth? Not all of it.

"So, care to share what you're doing on our compound? It isn't usually a tourist attraction...And I'm Ahneta, if you didn't catch it."

Marc frowned. "Just what kind of plans do you have for her, long term? I was under the consideration that I was here to take care of her. If I don't send her to the best schools then, will she be able to get into a famous university? Do you want me to sent her to college, or will you expect her to stay here?"

He should have thought about it sooner, but it had never crossed his mind, until now. "What happens, when she's older? I want to know what I am supposed to plan, and what I should leave up to you."

Serious. He'd tease Remi later.

Thorn's smile deepened. His eyes lighted with interest. The non business kind, and he arched a brow. "If you would like to any 'things' I'm hiding for yourself, I believe you've got yourself a willing partner." he drawled, smiling with amusement, and with delight at finding someone so... well. Aggressive, at the lab.

Hadrian and Natalie were refreshing. But compared to them? She was something else entirely.

"Ahneta." Well. That was a name he wouldn't be forgetting soon. "I'm visiting." he included Remi in this as well. Why was she looking at him like that? He couldn't remember hurting her in any way yet.

"Marc, for one." the man stiffened. "Hadrian, for another." and then his eyes shot fire at Thorn. "And Natalie." And Marc scowled.

Why was this man meddling?!

"And I believe I have a new reason, now."

Stephan had woken up fairly early, and after a few hours of unpacking and grumping around about it, had decided to take a break. He had skipped shaving, not that he knew where any of that stuff was in the box maze, and so looked a bit scruffy dressed in cut off jean shorts and a white undershirt. So far, he hadn't found a dumpster on the complex, and the empty boxes were getting on his nerves, so he had gone to try and find one. He hadn't really been expecting to run into anyone, but when he noticed an oddly large group of people around an apparently empty building, he let curiousity get to him.

Recognizing only Remi immediately, he headed toward her, trying to catch a bit of the conversation. "Someone call for a party and I missed it?" He joked, smiling to the rest who were, for the most part, unfamiliar. The frat boy had a bit of a sunburn, only now reddening and starting to hurt, but he was hoping he didn't look entirely out of place.

Taking her eyes off Thorn, Remi listened intently as Dacian explained the 'powers' that their children would grow to have. This only made her slightly worried. Supernatural children couldn't be too hard to look after, right?

"Well, what's considered normal mage-talent?" she inquired, as the term really didn't mean anything to her. For all she knew, they could be talking about flinging fireballs all over the place. Another figure was approaching in the corner of her eye. A familiar voice.

"Stephan!" her face brightened when she recognized him, despite his scruffy appearance. In a guilty sense, it made her feel better considering the well-to-do appearances of everyone else. In another less familiar sense, she was glad that she got to see him again so soon.

"We were just talking about where we're all sending our kids to school when they're old enough," she smiled, trying to fill him in. Hopefully Dacian and Ahneta would fill in the blanks that she didn't understand fully yet.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 13, 2006 7:06 pm

"Normal mage talent is usually difficult to detect at first. The only ways it would manifest if the user was unaware of it, was if - firstly - it was being tested. In our world - at least in our empire - it was required that all children be tested at the age of 8."

Dacian wasn't certain about the other empire, but Hadrian probably knew; after all, he was from it.

"The second way was if the user felt desperate. Being panicked and desperate, they would instinctively use their powers - and usually in pretty destructive ways. Anyway, after it's been recognized, we could train them without problem."

"At that point, they won't really have the strength to do much - they gain that as they gain control and knowledge."

He wasn't really concerned about mage talents...he was used to those. He offered a friendly grin to Stephan, before introducing himself, "Dacian."

Ahneta chuckled at Thorn, and she gave him a wink that was quite friendly. "If you happen to 'visit' the third building, behind those tree's...I live on the top floor. If you happen to visit me there, I'm sure we could enjoy ourselves."

She really had no shame.

Marc turned curious eyes at the new comer. Stephen? And what had he done to his skin? Walking towards him, he offered his hand. "Marc." he said for introductions sake, and smiled.

Hmmm. Remi was so cute around him. Maybe it'd be the start of something beautiful and sexy, almost like him and Hadrian. The thought of Hadrian, which led the man to think fo Thorn, had his mind grasp quickly at what Dacian was saying. As if it'd keep other things away.

"Desperate?" he frowned. Hopefully, it wouldn't come down to that. The thought of Haki being panicked and desperate enough to trigger off a gift... well. He'd grown protective, and didn't want to think what kind of situation would lead to _that_.

Thorn smiled. "Those trees?" he gestured, and at the rest of her words, he laughed too. One of the laughs that started low and ended lower, as if he had other things in mind than this silly public convention.

Of sorts.

"You charm me." he said easily, grinning. Really, she did. How long had it been since he'd been met with the some invitation?
