Everybody's played them... what sort of games / fun excercises have you done in threatre?

My favorite one is "Honey, I love You, Won't You Please, Please Smile". It involves the entire group sitting in a circle, and one person is selected to go first. This person stands in front of the person who had been sitting to their left, and they say the phrase, "Honey, I love you, won't you please, please smile?" But they can say it any way... they can sing it, they can dance as they say it, or use funny voices, or make funny faces; anything but touch the person they are saying it to. The person this is being said to has to try not to laugh. If they don't laugh, they have to say "Honey, I love you, but I just won't smile" with a straight face, and then the person trying to make them laugh has to move on to the next person and try again. But if they do laugh, then they have to get up and do it to the next person, and the one who made them laugh gets to sit in their spot. It's so hard because everyone else in the group can laugh, and when you're the one being spoken to, and everyone else is laughing, keeping a straight face seems like the hardest thing in the world. And when you're in a group of really talented comedic actors, and you're the one trying to make them laugh, no matter how funny you are, sometimes they just won't laugh. It's crazy but it's fun as hell.

We play something like that, only it's with the names of animals. So like, if I was skunk and I was calling to moose I would have to say, "Skunk skunk calling to moose moose," in a funny voice.

My personal favorite warm-up game is 'King Elphant." That's when everyone picks and animal and a hand motion, you sit in a circle, and every classes to the beat of "We will rock you." You have to call out a person by making your hand motion then there hand motion. If the person messes up, they are out but still sit there to confuse others. Last two standing wins, cus it's boring doing back and forth between just two people.

At camp, they played a game which i swear was a torture game. I guess I was a masochist and a trouble maker. The Holy Dido. A rolled up newspaper was the dido and you had to ask permission to do anything. Well, I called it a d***o and just went crazy. Someone asked if they could beat me for my transgression and they did. It's not the greatest game, but it's the only one I remember. Also, I thought it was quite boring if you followed the rules and didn't act up.

I also like the trust game, where you turn your back on your partner and fall backwards. And you pray the other guy catches you. We even did that from different heights.

We do lots of THeatre Games. One of my favorites is Freeze.

Two people get up and they do an improv scene untill someone calls freeze, gets up and takes the place of one of the actors, I'm talkin' arms and fingers in the exact same spot and start a completely different scene. It is really funny. Yu have to be careful not to go past PG-13

We do that in my acting class - Freeze - but I can't stand it because everyone always tries to make it a scene about one person who cheated on another, or about a gay couple. There's no creativity when we play that!

We also play a game called Buzz. It involves everyone sitting in a circle, and one person is selected to go first. They say "one". The person to their left says "two", and so on, but when you get to seven, you can't say it. Instead, you say the word "buzz", and then the next person says "eight". Same goes for every number that has seven in it (17, 71, etc), and for every multiple of seven. So you basically go around the circle counting, but everyone who lands on a seven number or a multiple of seven, has to say "buzz" instead of the number, and then the person after them will say the next number. You do it faster and faster, and it's really hard, especially once you get to the 70's, where it's like "buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, eighty". Last one standing wins.

Freeze is more of an improv game than a theatre game.

the best game ever is "kidy wants a corner" every one stands on the out side of the circle and the person on the inside has to go up to every one and say "kidy wants a corner" then the person say "try net door". mean while the people on the outside switch spots. the person it the center has to get the one of the people stops before they do. it's so much fun.

we do improv games in drama class all the time. i think it's theatre as well as improv because you get to trust your partner and adhere to theatre rules in adlibing and stuff. they're pretty fun too (although i don't do well in them *sighs*)

I played games like that in elementary school. "Honey, I Love You" and one exactly like it, but cat-themed called "Poor Old Tom".

With my theatre class, we would play standard Whose Line and All In The Timing-type games. Buzzer and Change and Five Minute Skit (basically you have five minutes to build a skit around a prop) were a way of life. I heart those games.

Now we have Big Booty, which is impossible to explain without playing it, Zip Zap Zog, which if you haven't played it, you're an incredible loser and Death By Noun, in which you retell the horrible and tragic tale of how you died by (insert random noun of choice here). The last one is my favorite, personally.

I was always partial to "Slow Motion Samuri." Basically, you perform a pantomime battle as a samuri trapped in slow motion. That was one of the better parts of the first acting class I ever had. I'm not quite sure what it was supposed to teach but it was fun....

One of my favorite improv/theatre games is the game "Wake up ********." Is anyone familiar with it? It's great.

I've played a game called Zip Zap Zop, but I'm not sure it's the same thing.

Omg some of these are hilarious! I goota share some of them at rehearsal on Saturday.

I'm surprised no one has said Park Bench yet! You have 2 people in chairs in front of everyone the person on the left has to try and make the other person get off the bench without touching them. But you have to imagine it like... if you were at a bus stop or something like that and some weirdo walked up to you. It's pretty hilarious.

Human Machine is another good one.Someone stands there and just does a random motion and makes a noise. Then just repeats and repeats and repeats until another person walks up and touches them somehow. They join the Machine but they are a new part of the machine. And so and and so on... Its really funny when you get like 10 people all up there making idiots of themselves... xd
