Aishiki tucked the small book she'd brought with her under one arm, glancing at her companion happily. Her fingers were laced with his, her tail waving lazily behind her as she kept pace. "I think you'll like him," she offered to Xue, blue eyes warm and open. "He's really quite nice. And a scholar, like us." She resisted the urge to reach up toward her hair, knowing that this would be the first time for Irasiel to see her with anything other than the messy ponytail she commonly wore. It was still a ponytail, of course, but she'd kept it neat this time, adorning it with a small set of parchment-colored beads around the base.

"If you say so," Xue replied softly, his tail clinging tightly to the back of his leg as he kept his arm wound around Aishiki's. To say that he was nervous was the least appropriate thing... he was jittery enough to make a milkshake if handed hte ingredients. "Are you sure he's home?"

"Pretty sure. The way he spoke, he's likely in his gardens." She smiled faintly, a wry expression on her face. "I didn't think to use Trio's telephone to call first, though I should've." They reached the door to the white building. She had yet to stop and count the windows in it, but there were certainly enough!
She glanced up, peering at Xue for a moment before drawing him down for a soft kiss. "Don't be nervous," she advised softly, eyes gentle. "He'll like you. I know it." Turning, she rapped at the door, tail twitching eagerly behind her.

"Shiki?" The voice came from behind them, and Ira stepped onto the path from the gardens with surprise. He wore his elaborate robes, a book in one elegant hand, and he tilted his head slightly. "I didn't expect you- you look lovely. Who is your friend...?"

Lowering his chin slightly, Xue kept his eyes on the rooster, his hand tightening ever so faintly on Aishiki's arm. This one had an air about him that made the dog uncomfortable.

Aishiki flushed faintly at the compliment, grinning widely at him before glancing up at Xue. "I thought you might like to meet Xue. Xue, this is Irasiel, the one I was telling you about," she said brightly. "Forgive me for just showing up. There are times I forget Trio has a phone."

Ira waved a hand absently, frowning slightly. "I don't use one, so it would not have mattered. This...is Xue?" He seemed quite puzzled, as if he'd been expecting someone very different. "I suppose that makes things a bit better," he murmured, and bowed. "The pleasure is then mine, Xue. Aishiki has spoken well of you."

One brow lifted, the Juusanshi returning the bow and watching Ira in confusion. This was... unexpected. And what did he mean? "It's good to meet you, Irasiel," he replied, still not quite on level ground yet. "Were you expecting something else?"

"Yes...I was," he said vaguely, turning to open the door. "Please, come inside." He didn't elaborate on his comment; his expression was still slightly disturbed, as if he himself wasn't certain how to react. His eyes held conflict, and reserved judgement.

Aishiki blinked, following Irasiel into the house without letting go of Xue's arm. Her brows were furrowed, confusion and curiosity warring in her gaze as she tried to make sense of the vague statements. Who had Irasiel BEEN expecting?
"Irasiel?" she finally asked quietly, after a couple moments of deliberation. "What were you expecting?"

He almost stayed outside. Xue felt distinctly NOT welcome here and was very much uneasy. He followed AIshiki's lead, however, padding along beside her into the house, his gaze fixed onto the rooster's back.

Ira placed the book gently on the table by the door, and half-turned back to them with a frown. "You know my...opinion of cats, Shiki," he said quietly. "Raised as I was, in our world, I did not consider that your companion would not be one of them."
He bowed slightly to Xue; his eyes were still clouded, but not as much as before. "I apologize for the assumption, and the distrust that came with it. I am very fond of Aishiki; it would disturb me to see her made unhappy, and I have had...experience with those who hurt the people who trust them."

"I would die before hurting her," Xue said simply. Under most circumstances, the statement would be considered dramatic... eager... however, in the flat tone of the Juusanshi, it was presented for exactly what it was... the truth.

Aishiki blinked, staring at Ira as though he'd grown another head. She heard Xue's response, and tucked herself a little closer to him, her gaze reflecting the disappointment and confusion she felt. "I told you about him at the shop," she said softly, searching Ira's face. "Remember?"
