The heat bore down on the female’s forehead, and she had to turn her face away from it to keep it from burning one spot for too long. In the distance waves of heat were rising from the earth, and there was a dryness in her throat that stuck and pulled with a strangling motion. Ever since she had reached her adolescence, Kilua had found herself moving somewhat adjacent form her family. She still returned nightly, for as of yet she had never successfully completed a hunt, but a kind of distance had wallowed it’s place somewhere in her chest and she did not know if it could be mended. She had questions now– where was their father? Mother never spoke of him. How she loved her and adored her, but she couldn’t understand this. Something was missing in the life of the sun-scorched lady, and she was feeling quite forlorn.

It didn’t help that her one friend had gone missing- to where, she didn’t know. She supposed she shouldn’t have placed so much interest on a boy met once, but she had always hoped he would have remembered her. That someone other her family would see her- sometimes, it felt as though she had become a ghost on the savannah. To her credit, she certainly looked like one.

She had the soft, tender features of someone who was used to having others do things for her, and a kind of regal glint in her pale eyes. Other then that, she seemed small and frail, heavy eyelashed and small pawed.

She sat now upon a ridge of a dried termite mound. Under most lions it probably would have crumbled, but for now it seemed to hold up well as she rested. Her family was about a mile off, and she was considering returning as soon as evening set in. For now however, Kilua watched the patterns the clouds made on the earth, rolling slowly... and hazily, she fell into a half slumber.

No one could possibly understand what she put up with on a daily basis, looking like a damn zebra. Well... no one but an actual zebra. And many a time had she wandered if her twin had the same problems, but to know for sure would mean asking him. To ask him, she'd have to find him.

It wasn't fair to say she'd been searching since that day long ago as a cub where she happened to wander away from him, and returned to the space he'd occupied empty. But she had always kept her brown and green eyes glancing around at any moment they were open--just in case.

These lands... Really, she didn't like them. She now bared a particularly strong gruge against the rocks. One had gotten caught in her paw earlier, and it was still obvious by the blood that ran from the bottom of it and smeared onto the ground when she walked.

For the first time in a while, she really wished her brother--or even her sister--was in her company. If only so she could complain, shout, generally be herself. Hasana the Grumpy.

"HEY!" the lioness called at the blotch of grey that came into her sights. "Have you seen any males that look like zebra around here?"

“Uuu?” The small female cooed as she jolted awake, her body flinching in the motion, and her eyes dazedly trying to focus on what had happened. Mother-? Was it impossible to imagine that this was the first time meeting another female other then her queenly mother? She’d been surrounded by boys since before she had been cubbed. “–huh?” Kilua finally managed, her eyes blinking.

A zebra was talking to her! At once she pulled back with a start, her ears pricking upwards. But it settled somewhat when she followed the black and white print and found a pair of decidably feline eyes looking back at her. She waited, feeling the hot earth beneath her feet before speaking again. “Um...sorry- I don’t... I’ve never seen anyone that looks like a zebra before!” She called impassionedly; perhaps, a bit too much.

Registering herself, Kilua tried to compose herself to be a bit more princess like, as her mother had often told her to appear. Sucking in a breath she seemed to relax, and her face stared forward flatly in a mock impersonation of her mother’s look. “I’m sorry– but, I really don’t. I don’t see many lions.” Her voice betrayed the look.

Rather confused by the sudden change in expression, all Hasana did at first was very slowly nod her head. "I see... What's wrong with your face?" she dared to ask, as the zebra-coated lioness was never one to avoid saying exactly what she was thinking.

To be fair, the only questions she asked were the ones everyone was thinking! At least... That's she thought.

Her black-tipped tail flickered, eyes scanning over the other female for any indication she was sick or crazy. Maybe she was one of those ones who had constant mood swings. Hm...

“Nothing’s wrong with my face.” Kilua said simply, keeping the eye-closed expression pasted on her face. It seemed a bit too...haggard, for someone as young looking as she. It was probably a good enough attempt at being serious to convince some people she was either mad, or at least heat stricken. But keeping her eyes closed wore thin on her eager patience, and eventually she had to peek to see what the other female was doing.

It was rather apparent, although despite her dramatics, she seemed to be well intentioned. If not, somewhat delusional.

“I’m Kilua.” She reported, her tail swaying. “And you?”

What Hasana was doing was nothing particularly dazzling. Apparently during the short pause after her question, she'd lost all interest in this other lioness. The way she sat and licked her front paw suggested she'd all but completely forgotten there was another present.

She showed no signs of others till her name was asked. "It's Hasana. You've got a nice name." K names were nice to her ears.

Kilua’s face brightened, and she gently stumbled down from the rock. No one had ever complimented her before- even if it was just for her name. Well- no one besides mother. “Th-thank-you. I like my name.” She spoke. “Hasana is a very good name though.” She replied as she got closer, sitting herself cautiously down in a very authoritive and dainty way. “It is a strong name, I think. Good for living on your own– Kilua...flowers can’t live much by themselves.” She frowned, and shook her head slowly. “I’m afraid I can’t do much of anything without the water and sun to take care of me.” She hadn’t even killed a mouse yet.

"...Do you- live on your own?" She questioned, her head shifting to the side in entranced interest. A fluff of hair from the top of her head crowned across her brow sweetly, covering an eye.

Hasana squinted one eye, forming a rather strange and boarderline suspicious expression. What a weird reaction to such a simple thing. So she'd said her name was nice. What was the big deal?

Merely a grunt was offered concerning the water and sun. The sun... She hated it. It made things too hot. How many times had people told her she was crazy for being bothered by it so easily? It didn't matter what they said. They were the crazy ones.

Live on her own? Now THERE was a question asked all too often. It seemed to her like she was the ONLY lion(ess) who lived alone. Everyone she'd met so far had been oh-so-amazed by it. "Yes," she answered shortly.

And Kilua was amazed. So amazed, that her mouth opened and was unable usher breath from it. “I–“ She stammered. “I wish I could!” She spoke. Was that true? Probably not...she was too afraid to live on her own. She would never abandon her family. But there was a part of her that desperately wanted to go to bloom. “You must meet a lot of people.” Kilua continued, her soft voice pulling into a concerned expression.

“All for a friend?” She concluded, her blue eyes fluttering upwards. “–Your father?” She questioned again, her tail shifting. Father. She hadn’t even known what that had been until reccently.

Okay, woah. This lioness was a freak, as far as Hasana was concerned. But in some odd way, she found her amusing. Enough to chuckle as she tilted her head and flicked both ears. Yes, a lot had told her that.

I want to live alone!

I wanna be free too!

And now: I wish I could!

Honestly, she rather enjoyed the lifestyle. One had to keep in mind this was coming from a forever prideless lioness, however.

At the downpour of questions, she looked confused. "For a friend?" Her father? What did she mean? "I don't understand..."

“Oh–“ Kilua stammered softly, and turned away, as if she was almost embarrassed to have brought it up. “You said before, if I had seen a zebra striped male... I only assumed, it might have been some sort of relation. I’m sorry if it was not.” Mother had taught her better when speaking in public... the only problem was, that Kilua had very little practice in the matter. She was a princess in exodus.

“I don’t mean to pry of course.” She commented again. “It really isn’t any of my business. Although- ....” She wanted to say she could help find him. But for all her soft and nearly childish antics, she was a realist. She wanted to say it, but knew she couldn’t really help. She barely saw any lions as it was, other then her brothers. “...well...I suppose I’d be no help. Few lions come this way.”

Oh. That's right. She had mentioned Banji, hadn't he? Good for nothing twin. If he'd died, he could have at least done it somewhere she'd have found his corpse.

"Oh, it's alright," she insisted a bit carelessly. No one had ever seen him. If someone ever did, she really wasn't sure exactly how she'd react. "He's hard to track down, apparently. But he's my brother."

“Your brother?” She spoke, her head craning to the side like a kind of bird. “I have two brothers.” She reflected. “One of them is gone a lot...but, I don’t think he’d care much for a search party. Why did he leave...? If it’s not too private to ask.” Always important to add that, they had said. Princesses had to be delicate, if not cautious.

The look on her face may or may not have made it evident to the other lioness just how annoyed with her little 'add ons' Hasana was getting. She shook her head, answering in a simple way, "He didn't leave, I just lost track of him." Or more, they lost track of each other.

He could have easily been looking for her, been dead, forgotten about her and have a pride and a family by now.

“Oh-“ Kilua squeaked, blinking. How dreadful! How did one go about loosing one another and not realizing it? She hoped that it would not happen with her brothers. But she did notice that her connection towards Utomo was a but less then it was with Kayin. It sunk her heart. “Brothers are important. I hope you find him.”

“Do you just wander then? Or are you going somewhere in particular?”
