Saa woke to the muffled rays of the sun at the mouth of her den. The vines that she had recently placed just above the mound had served their purpose. The sun no longer beat down on the small bundles beside her. A smile crossed her maw at the fact that her daughter was already awake. The mother hadn't quite gotten used to the fact that there were others around her. She gently nudged her eldest and began cleaning her soft purple fur. The pups whines and nips could have been enough to wake Usu. She certainly hoped not. Her soft voice sounded in her daughters ear.
"Don't wake up your Uncle Potevu." Her voice was barely a whisper but immediately the cries stopped. With the silence Saa layed her head gently on Usu's paw, careful not to wake him.
Potevu had woken up much earlier than everyone else. The even breathing of her sleeping mother had kept her content until her stomach had rumbled in hunger. When her pailed attempt of pawing at Saa's muzzle hadn't gotten her food she decided to keep resting against the warm white fur. A few moments passed and Pot had become much too restless. Her tail thumped against the ground as she stood and crushed dirt rocks under her paws until they crumbled to dust. A triumphant grin came to her maw everytime. When she got too rough and felt her mother's tongue Pot began to whine and cry. Her fun game had been interupted. At her mother's words she calmed nodded.
"Kay madda..." Her tongue always got in the way of her speech. The pup hadn't quite mastered the art of talking.

Unfortunately, Usu's been awake for sometime. He was merely resting his eyes. He heard everyword the two exchanged including Potevu's undeveloped tongue. A smirk came to his maw.
"Saa, don't worry about me. I'm awake. I'm up." he raised his head and opened his maw with a high pitched yawn that sort of squeaked toward the end. He licked his lips as he looked onto the three females. "Good mornin', Saa." he said with a smile. The male reached down and nuzzled the active pup, "and you too, Potevu."
He sort of felt like a father here with these females beside him. But he knew he wasn't and he could not do what father could with his own kin than a rather than a replacement. Potevu was intresting though. She showed great affection to him, playing with him mostly, he wouldn't want to break her heart, like Saa stated the night before.
The god-touched wolf raised to his feet and stretched out his back with a pop and followed by another yawn. Maybe it was time to help out more than he has. "Are you all hungry?" he asked. "I could run out real quick and grab something for you." directed at the new mother. He was used to hunting quickly in the morning to fuel himself for the rest of the day. Why break a morning tradition, except here he'll be hunting for a larger animal to feed more mouths.

Saa was startled when Usu spoke. She had nearly fallen asleep again and his voice was directly over her. It was a nice wake up. Her lids slowly raised to show bright yellow eyes. Her tail wagged slowly as she yawned herself, maw snapping closed. The tired female ran her tongue over her lips as she lifted her muzzle from his paw. "Good morning Usu." Another sleepy moan came from her as looked to him.
"Oh..well it's better to be safe than sorry." A smile came to her muzzle and her paws stretched, each toe cracking. Saa let a paw slowly comb through her mane. Kibu's body against her haulted her movements. SHe didn't want to wake her youngest and most fragile. Carefully moving herself she finally got the her paws. The tall femme shook out her bright fur and watched as dust fell to the ground. She settled back on her haunches with a smile. Her wake up ritual hadn't included Usu before and she was confused. She thought for a moment before gently licking his cheek.
"I am a bit hungry and I'm sure that my daughters would love their morning breakfast. She looked back at the two and watched Pot bound to Usu.
Pot happily bounced around her Uncle at his voice. She hadn't know that he had been awake so he suprised her also. The clumsy puppish bark sounded happily. Her tail wagged about like a whip. She was almost too affectionate to her Uncle since she didn't really know what an Uncle was nor did she know much about her true father. Mother had just said that it was her Uncle so she assumed so even though the word meant nothing to her.
"Unkal Usu!" The one thing that Pot loved most about him was his name. It was the only important word that she ever seemed to get right.

The wolf smiled happily. Saa's awake with her two daughters. Potevu was still the rambuncious cub from last night as well. The way she spoke brought a smile to his face, it was just too cute. Usu nuzzled the little cub and moved her to her mother, she was still a pup and she needed her mother's milk to make it through the first phase of her life. He licked Saa's cheek, "I'll be back soon. This shouldn't take too long." and with that he passed through the vined entrance and left the den.
~
As he crouched low to the ground like a lion, he spied a stray zebra. Often times he would find field mice or a rabbit or two. Here was a full blown zebra, enough to feed the three wolves....or four if the younger pup ever woke up. Since being alone since a pup, Usu has adopted many habits of other animals. The wolf kept his lion stance and crept closer, keeping in mind where his paws were placed and how low his body was positioned. Just a foot away now and within moments the zebra was his. However, a cry of a bird startled the two and competely blown Usu's cover. Given no other choice, Usu dug his paws into the ground and dashed forth just as a cheetah would have. Given the years of practice of this, he managed to grab hold of the equine before it could move an inch. ANd just as the lions he closed tight around the prey's neck and held on with his blunt claws. Eventually the zebra tired and took a rest, still in panic and the biggest mistake when under attack. Give the oppritunity, Usu twisted his head left to right until the popping noise confirmed his capture.
Finally, now to bring it back. Just as he started to drag the carcass back to Saa's den, his shoulder started to hurt again, however this time it was weaker than his last ones. A mere tingle was all. Usu pushed the pain aside, but the voices he heard still rang in his ear.
Just got to get back...

"Take your time Usu." Saa smiled as Usu left the den. He was so helpful to her. When Zingy had run of Usu took the responsibility that a father should.
They aren't even his pups and yet he seems to care about them so deeply...
A sigh came to her maw as her daughter stalked to the mouth of the den. Saa's sharp eyes caught her Potevu's form and snatched her up in her paws. "Don't you dare Potevu'wasaa. The world isn't happy go lucky like you think it would be." She smiled, took her pup in her mouth and trotted back to the wall of her den. Laying down slowly as her pup wriggled in her jaws. A soft squeak came from her daughter as she set her down.
Potevu was anxious to know what was beyond the bright hole in the dirt. The vines that now blocked her view only made her more curious. Her little mind raced at the site of a bird in the sky and her body ached to jump at the sky, in futile efforts, and to catch it. Much like her father in the curiousity aspect, Pot whined as she was taken to the back of the den.
"Was Unkal s'poseta bring you bweafast Madda?" Saa's tail wagged. When her mother ate then she would be able to have her fill.

Usu was just outside of the den now. He paused for a moment. Perhaps it would be best not to appear to the pups with a bloody muzzle and paws. He rolled himself into the dirt a few times to clean himself even though he was going to get bloody again anyways, but it's a first impression.
Usu dragged the catch into the den and plopped down beside it. The male was tired from the hunt, the dragging, and the small pain his shoulder emitted as it was moved. A dirt furred grin fell onto his face as he smiled at the females.
"Got breakfast for ya." he said idiotically. It was strange, though he showed maturity in some areas, he still acted immature when around others during the early hours. "Ladies first, of course."

Saa had been happily cleaning her pups, unaware of Usu and the Zebra's scent until he stood outside. Her mouth watered at the thought of a meal. She was about to rise from her position wehnUsu slipped into the den with his kill. Her tail swung as she crawled slowly closer. Her teachings had always told her to wait until the male took the first bite but he just stood there as if taunting her with it. She crawled ever closer and looked up at him. His dirty fur was odd to her. He was supposed to be covered in blood, not dirt. A smile crossed her maw when she realized it.
Her pups. She bowed her head and sniffed at the meat. "Thank you Usu." Saa licked her chops and pulled at the flesh before her.
Potevu had been chasing ants unsucessfully around the den. Usu's smell was masked to her inferior nose and only sound alerted her to his presence. The pup with a smile that quickly dissolved.
What is that thing?...
She didn't want to get closer. It smelled bad to her. The puppy wwhined and pawed at her mother as she ate. Her mother seemed to like it.
"Madda? Why ar' you eetin' dat. It sthmells bad..."

Usu sort of laughed at the pups comment. Then again it was only less than a day old, so of course she wouldn't know exactly what it is. The male nudged the pup, "Potevu, this is a Zebra. Zee brah." he said, sort of like a teacher would a student. It was awkward for him more so. Saa looked content with her food, perhaps he found a nice juicy one this time.
He stared at the other pup, still sleeping. Heh, had a feelin' she wouldn't be awake. Sleeping beauty. he chuckled at the thought. Potevu was active and always wanted something to do. As her sister sleeps. Strange...
"Potevu, why not go bother your mum for something to eat?" he said, nudged her closer to Saa. Usually, when a pup was hungry, it would just paw at the mother for her to vomit something up for it to eat. However, Saa was eating pretty fast, she mustn't have eaten lately so that would mean there was nothing to offer. Besides, there was a perfectly good zebra meal right there and ready for the picking so it'd be pointless to do the other method. Break in the carnivore now rather than later...right?

Saa was much too hungry to deal with her daughters questions. She was happy when Usu took charge of the situation. Her jaws curled around a particularly tender string of meat and pulled just to see the leg of the beast rise with her pulling. When the tendon wouldn't give she growled. The frustrated mother dug her muzzle further into it's flank, happily finding another thick muscle to tear from it. Claws gripped it's hide as she fed. Saa was exhausted a famished from already being thin and weak when she gave birth. It was a welcome gift. She nearly growled at Usu's presence. He was too close and Saa was quite food agressive but she supressed the growl with a glare. Even though he had willing risked his health to get it for her, she wasn't quite ready to give it up.
Tail going rigid behind her the female continued to eat her absolute fill.
"Zee-bu-wa?..." Her tongue was still sloppy weven though it had begun to abide to her. "Wha's dat Unkal?" SHe watched her mother devour the meat before her. She saw the glare that her mother sent Usu. Pot didn't know it was instinct as she licked at untouched hide. It tasted funny to her. The pup recoiled at the taste and bounced on her paws.
"Zee-bu-wa is bad..."

Usu smirked, disregarding Saa's glare. The way Potevu spoke pulled at his trings it was just too darn cute. He reached down and closed his maw around her shackle and took her away, Saa obviously did not want to be disturbed. The male placed down the girl and pawed at her head. "you place nice alright, Potevu? Don't want you hurting Unkie Usu, right?" was sort of awkward calling himself, "Unkie Usu."
The wolf smirked at Saa. When he first met, she was so weak from wandering and practically starving herself because of her "gods." She would not eat unless the gods told her and here she was devouring a catch that he caught for her. Strange....
He returned his attention back to the wolf under his paw. "Oh!"

Saa sighed as she finished her part of the meal. For now she could only smell the musk of the zebra about her muzzle. She began to slowly lick at her now blood soaked paws and clean them to their original hue. The red from her paws smudged along the dirt as she continued to clean until they were once again the sleek black. Her tail thumped behind her as she licked the remaining gore from herself. It was a long and arduous process but it seemed to work for the time being.
It's certainly nice to be full for once...
When she finished her cleaning she stood a stretched out her tired body. After giving birth it felt odd not having so much weight around her middle even if it had made walking unbearable. She shook out her distinctly fatter self and looked about for her charges. Her yellow eyes landed on Usu and she lumbered over to where he and Potevu were playing and gave him a soft nudge. "Thank you Usu..."
Pot had never seen her mother act that way...actually...she had never seen her mother very much at all. When Usu picked her up she was happy to be with him. "Unkal." She happily yipped under his paw. She nipped and snapped at his much larger self trying her hardest to actually do some damage. It was quite futile for the little pup though it didn't stop her.
When his paw was finally raised she lashed out and pawed at his muzzle laughing loudly.
"You aren't gunna leaf us...ar' you Unkal Usu?"

Usu murred as Saa nudged him softly. Another female that showed great affection for him, but he knew her heart belonged to another no matter how much she tried to deny it. Her heart belonged to Zing and Usu knew that too.
"You're welcome, Saa." he smiled.
Usu pulled his muzzle up from the little tike, she wanted to play maybe? "No, Potevu, I won't leave you." he nuzzled her, "Not for a very long time." he smiled playfully down at the pup. He used his paw to play with the cub just as he did last night. This time he moved in all directions, occasionally tapping her.
"Saa, I don't know much about parenting, but from watching others I believe it would be a good time to feed your pups." he suggested. He didn't want to step out of line, frightened that he may upset her again. But these pups should get their tummies full, or at least the ones who are awake.

Saa watched her pup and smiled. She seemed so full of life and so...happy. A small smile tugged at the older females muzzle. It was painful to know that her daughters would never know more about their father than what she told them. Images from that night came back to her. Potevu reminded her of herself that night. How she had acted like a submissive puppy to Zingy. Hwo they had played before commiting to the act. Her eyes darkened as her mind wandered. The pain that went through her was enough the drown in as if it were liquid fire. Usu's voice finally broke her from her thoughts.
"Oh. Yes...I believe it's time for both of them to eat." Saa took a very exhausted Pot into her maw and carried her over to her sister. A soft nudge to the pink pup was enough to cause Kibu to raise to unsteady paws.
"It's time for breakfast..."
Pot had thought that she was winning against her uncle. A soft noise of irritation came from her as her mother took her away. She had wanted to play more. A soft yipp and a n** at her mother's muzzle were enough to be dropped carefully to the ground.
"Madda...I wanid to play"
Her mother seemed to be ignoring her. The pup humph and sat on her haunches until she heard breafast. The pup bolted up and began to slowly bounce around her mother and lick at her muzzle along with her sister until they were rewarded with food.

"Potevu, come back~" he called childishly, chuckling when Saa took the pup away. He wanted to be childish just for her. He smiled as the little girl hopped around at the mere mention of food. If only her sister was as euthusiastic. Saa looked worried for a moment when she looked down at the pups, Usu's expression became more concerned for her; she was thinking of Zing.
"Saa, I don't know if you would accept him or not, but just wait and see, Zing will come back when he reliezes the mistake he has done." Usu's eyes were soulful, he wanted to be here for Saa and at the same time assure her that he will come back to her some day. "Just hold on, he'll be back. (Even if I have to drag him back myself.)" he whispered below his breath. The god-touched wolf could not stand the sight of the female like this. What example is this for her pups when she is constantly thinking of Zing? If Zing came back the puos will have a father, and Saa would be much happier with all three pup and her mate around.
"And don't worry about me, I can wait for my share of the meal." he said with a smile trying to bright up the dark moment then.

Saa put on all the smile she could muster as he pups fed off what she had for them. The bit of zebra that they had decided to try was being quickly devoured. She tried to push the thought of their father from her mind but his image was plastered behind her lids. Closing her yellow eyes, she tried desperately to block the thoughts from her mind but the darkness only conjured up more memories. The female shook her head and looked down between her paws at the dirt.
He's not coming back. Stop wishing he will.
Saa moved away from her pups and lay by Usu. She leaned close to his ear so her pups would listen in on their conversation.
"He's not coming back. It isn't worth your energy..."
