Echo sighed as she lay with her head on her paws in front of the den that she and her sister shared. For some reason, she had become increasingly depressed and, seeing this, Ophelia had offered to hunt for the day. She hadn't had time to protest before her twin had dashed off into the woods, leaving the runt of the litter alone at the small den.

There wasn't much to do around here but hunt, really, and the omega found it difficult to concentrate on anything, which annoyed her because she was trying to figure out why she was feeling so down. Normally she was peppy, happy, excited for the new day... but not today. Something was pulling her down and she wanted to figure out what it was. But nothing came to her as the heat made her even more irritated. Growling softly to herself, she rolled onto her side and closed her eyes. Perhaps sleep would calm her and clear her head...

And so she let herself drift off into dreamworld, hopefully to find some needed relaxation.

Logan had found himself wandering off Phib's packlands a bit again. Lately he was trying to keep focus, because it seemed his mind drifted elsewhere, leaving him in a sort of dazed and confused state most of the time. But he still remembered his promise he made to Echo, he'd never forget that, and never want to break it either.

Lately Logan found himself having dreams...

Dreams of times past, the rpesent and odd dreams fo the future. Chaos, confusion, it was all there. But he believe they were nothing. But his dreams had woken him up many times, leaving the large male with less and less sleep and teh days rolled on. He was tired a lot, seeming down, but he still wanted to see Echo.

The thought of seeing her again always brightened his spirits.

Though he did not want her to see him so tired, he wanted to look good in front of her, strong, hansome, everything. He liked Echo more and more each day, felt himself being pulled closer to her as the minutes rolled on when he was apart from her.

But he didn't want to push her...

He didn't want to force her into something she didn't want. Yet all the while Logan had already admitted to himself that he wanted her...wanted Echo. She was something Logan never thought he could find. And he had to see her again soon before his sanity level dropped.

Padding slowly but surely through the underbrush Logan headed in the direction he believed would lead him to Echo. The sun was high and the heat becoming unbearable. But he had to find her.

Dreams, however, didn't seem to like to be kind to the female either. Like they haunted Logan, they seemed to haunt her as well, even now. She whimpered and whined in her sleep, tossing to one side then back again. There was something she was seeing in her mind's eye that simply wasn't pleasant.

Though it was vague, her nightmare scared her nonetheless. It was horrible, just absolutely horrible, and she jumped straight to her paws, eyes wide and tail tucked firmly between her legs.

Still whining, she looked around with her head low, almost touching the ground. Where was her sister? For a moment she forgot, but then greatly relieved herself when she remembered that her twin had gone out hunting. Sighing in relief, she settled back down to her belly and tried to forget about her dream. It continued to haunt her out of dreamworld, however, and she found herself panicking.

"Sister..." she called in her head, hoping that Ophy was in range. "Sister, I'm scared."

The hunt had been more then profitable. Although her sister and herself mainly fed off of small mice and voles, and on the rare occasion a rabbit if either of them could catch it, Ophelia had finally struck gold. Or at least, a brief, seasonal gold as the salmon had started to spawn in the south. The river which forked off into some wolf’s packlands seemed to have the most of it, but not wishing to tread into it, Ophelia had gone to the east to one of it’s long fingers. The fish were not as thick here, but it had hardly taken more then five minutes to catch one as it furiously attempted to swim upstream. So pleased at herself, Ophelia had not taken the time to catch one for herself- and instead, turned directly back to present the fish to Echo.

Something was wrong with Echo, and she didn’t need to be psychic to see that. She had been down lately. It wasn’t like Echo to not go hunting with her. Normally it was Echo that kept them cheery, not the other way around. Now Ophelia felt herself filling the role of the pleasant one, and it left a coldness in the back of her throat. She was far too used to worrying and being bitter. How much worse could Echo be then, if it made her the happy one? She didn’t want to know– but subconsciously, she blamed that fellow she had been hanging out with.

Logan- that was his name. Echo had never acted odd before him. It was all his fault. Had he not visited her? Or maybe he got bored once they hadn’t left with him. Whatever the case was, Ophelia was determined to mend it. Perhaps after this, they’d both be for the stronger. Kiba had said he was looking for paradise. Hah- .....

Paradise. She clutched the fish in her jaws. Something like that didn’t exist. Just living did.

A fluttering thought skewed her mind, and she felt Echo suddenly should out to her. “What?” The female balked through clenched jaws. Was something bothering her? Without hesitation, she bolted forward, the fish dumbly flopping in her jaws.

The motions of running somewhat ruined it by the time she returned, skidding to a stop by the den, her feet muddied from the mixture of water and silt. She dropped the fish with a thunk and quickly moved beside her, the female’s tongue lolling. “Echo!” She spoke. “Are you alright?” And nervously, stroked her sister’s muzzle with her tongue.

Logan at this point was lost. How had he let himself come to this? Lost in where he was and in mind. He had already come across the stream where he and Echo had once been, when that bear decided to show up and ruin everything. But he couldn't remember which way to go from here, his mind and memory was a blur. Why couldn't he find her?

Why was his mind so cruel.

He wanted to see her, smile at her, see her smile and wag her tail. Logan even wanted to see Echo with her sister, Echo seemed happiest with her sister, and he dare not take them apart from one another. A sibling bond was something no one could break, especially one as strong as the one Echo had with her sister.

But that fact bothered him.

Perhaps they still did not want to go back with him, back to Phib's lands, back with him. So Logan could see Echo more, hope that something would come of their relationship as of now.

Logan, felt incomplete without Echo.

He sat down and peered over the streambed into the water that rushed by, trying to find which way to go. He had to find her. And there was only one thing he could do. He craned his neck bakwards and let out a howl, hoping she would hear him and know he hadn't forgot about her, not at all.

He sat alone now, and waited.

Logan hoped that Echo had heard him, but what if she didn't, what if she had gone soemwhere else with her sister? The worst possible things that could happen were running through his mind at the moment. He just hoped Echo was alright and happy.

Echo was quite relieved and relaxed once she saw her sister. Everything seemed better with Ophelia around.

"I had a nightmare, sister," she whispered in her head, snuggling close to her twin. Even though she was fully grown, there were times where she still acted like a puppy in that she was dependent in a way on others. With her sister, it was a bit of an inexplicable thing.

"It scared me, Ophy. You were gone and--" The omega shut her eyes and shook her head. Remembering the nightmare was the last thing she had wanted to do, but she had to let Ophelia know abou tit. There were no secrets between them, and Echo found it easier for the two to cope if they knew everything about each other.

"It was bad," she concluded. But then a howl broke through the air and she jumped slightly into her sister. It took her a moment, but she finally recognized who it belonged to.

Glancing over at Ophelia, she whined slightly. The last meeting between Logan and her sister hadn't exactly gone well. Echo had stood by and hadn't done anything, but that didn't mean she wasn't saddened by the fact that they didn't get along so well. "It's Logan, Ophy," she said in her head, glancing off to where it came from. "Should we let him come?" she asked, looking up with pleading eyes. For some reason, she wanted to make things right. But she wanted to respect what her twin wanted as well..

The childlike behavior of her sister did little to bother Ophelia. She leaned herself into her sister, who seemed to shrink under the weight of her fear and grief. While her sister spoke she let her head rest upon the top of her head, taking in a slow breath. Echo wasn’t the only one who had been having bad dreams- but, Ophelia had always had her share of them. She worried a lot. But there was something. Something bad coming, she could feel it. She had felt it when that white wolf had came, and she felt it now. It hadn’t gone away.

Perhaps it would be best if they went away. From here. A different place...

But before she could even utter the words, a low howl encroached her from behind. She froze and listened to it, wanting it to be nothing but already feeling Echo shift underneath her. Faintly, Ophelia flecked her eyes downward, and focused on Echo’s. She was looking back at her, her large eyes pleading.

“Logan.” Ophelia spoke to Echo, and turned her head towards the sound. Run away, it would be better. “If you wan’t to see him.” She spoke softly.

She didn’t like what hung on the horizon. But- if it made her happy...

Logan was waiting still, his head resting on his paws that were crossed under his chin, still staring down at the water. He cursed himself inwardly as he didn't know which way to go from this point, it had been near dark when he was here with Echo.

Perhaps she didn't want to see him.

He prayed and hoped that wasn't true. He knew that his relations with Echo's sister weren't as great, but who could blame her? Sibling care between them was strong, Ophelia was protective of Echo. It was all normal.

But the way Logan felt right now wasn't normal. He had never felt like this since...since he was kicked out. Forced away from home, having to run from those who wished to catch up to him, his siblings. His siblings had hated him. His mother looked at Logan with disgust. Even his own father hated him adn looked at Logan with disgrace. His own father had exiled him from his birthplace.

Logan wasn't sure why he felt this way now. He felt alone, incomplete. He wanted to see Echo so much, to have her smile lighten his mood, make him happy. But his howl had echoed throughout the trees and their was no response. He felt like all hope was lost.

He was lost. And he wasn't sure what to do now.

He curled his fluffy curly tail up behind him. Staring into the water below him with no desire to see himself, he wished he'd see Echo's reflection instead. Her reflection, laying next to him, looking at eachother in teh water that rushed by.

Echo was pleased that her sister had said that she could call Logan if she wanted, but she wasn't pleased with the way it had been said. She knew Ophelia didn't exactly like the male, but this was something different it seemed. Her sister seemed not really bitter, but reluctant. Was she afraid? Afraid that maybe she'd lose her little sister? She couldn't be sure, so she tried not to let it bother her too much.

"Thank you, sister," she mumbled, nuzzling her sister for a moment then looking into her eyes. It was almost as if she were trying to read exactly what was going on inside of her older sibling's head. Finding nothing of course, the omega glanced off to the side.

After a moment's hesitation (she was still worried by Ophelia's reluctance) she lifted her nose to the sky and let out her own howl, telling Logan that he could come and visit.

Once her howl had ended, Echo turned towards her twin. "Sister... what's wrong?" she asked, distracting herself while she waited for Logan.

Ophelia watched Echo finish her howl. Her eyes traced the nothingness as if she could watch it soar away. Was she afraid? She didn’t want to think she was. But she’d always been. Afraid to live alone, afraid to survive, but most importantly she was afraid to fail. To fail her sister, and herself, and make their parents the winners in the grand scheme. That, she would not allow.

Faintly, Ophelia smiled and shook her head. It was somewhat pained, but not aimed at Echo, or even so much at Logan. “No, I’m alright Echo.”

Now, they would have to wait.

Logan's ear twitched to the side as teh stream water took its course over teh rocks. Some bumpy and others smooth, twists and turns along the way, such as life's path was for anyone. He knew that no path would be easy, none straight in one direction, yet they always led somewhere, somewhere for teh better from where you would be.

His eyes quickly raised from the water glanced to another area, one direction where Logan heard the faint call of another-

Echo.

A faint smile spread across his maw as he stood and shook himself and stretched. His tail wagging slowly but in a constant motion. She was still here! And he could go see her again. Echo alone, Ehco with her sister, it didn't matter, he could see Echo again. Her returning howl seemed tp pull a weight off his back as he stepped down off the bank he was on, jumped up onto teh other side and bolted off in one direction.

Where Echo had to be.

As his paws carried him over rocks, small pebbles and sticks that were in his way the memory of going this way slowly began to return. Images of teh last time he was here with Echo, even the painful good-bye he had to say before. But that was in the past, he was going to see her again. He hoped she wanted to see him very much as well.

Honestly, he was afraid what feelings he felt might not be what she felt.

It was odd to him. But his paws carried him still in great bounds over those things that were in his way. The wind blew gently against his face, making him blink once or twice and he picked up Echo's scent...and Ophelia's, and they were close.

Logan lessened his speed from an all out run to padding along, though rather quickly, because he was anxious and excited to see her again. He steppedout from the underbrush and came facee to face with Ophelia and Echo. And his tail wagged even more, a full out smile upon his maw.

"Hi Echo, Ophelia," he said in his gruff yet soft voice as he acknowledged Ophy as well. Logan did NOT want to be rude, not at all. He padded forward a few more steps and stopped a few feet from both of them. He didn't want the situation to get awkward, especially if Ophy wanted him to stay his distance. Even if Logan wanted to be closer to Echo.

"Both of you doing well? I'm glad I could come and see you again," the last statement directed mroeso towards Echo as Logan looked over to her and his ears folded back in a slight blushing motion, though he believed only Echo would realize this.

He was just glad to see her.

Echo watched her sister for a good, long moment. Though she had said she was fine, she knew it wasn't true. Something was bothering her sister, and she would find out what it was.

"Sister, you aren't--" But she was suddenly cut off when she heard rustling straight in front of her, and a moment later Logan emerged from the bushes. A sudden smile spread across her face as she let her tail brush the dirt aside behind her in a delighted wag. She didn't know why, but she was simply glad to see him.

And, though she was excited, she stayed put next to her sister. She wanted to tell Logan how much she was glad to see him, but she wouldn't leave her sister, not ever.

"Tell him we're doing fine and I'm glad to see him, please, sister," she whispered in her head, still smiling at Logan. The omega could have repeated the male's words, but she was determined to make this friendship work, between all three of them. She wanted to show Ophelia that she still needed her, and that they would always need each other.

Ophelia remained silent as Logan approached Echo, and was not able to ignore the sudden lightening of their collective expressions. She paused and looked aside, considering it slowly. It wasn’t until Echo spoke to her that she returned back from her thoughts. Her ears flicked forwards, and she noticed Logan was looking at her.

“Hello, Logan.” She said simply. She made no effort to seem too harsh, but it was not particularly smooth either. But for what it was worth, she relayed Echo’s message with a tone that was quite a bit smoother.

"We're doing fine." Ophelia remarked. "Echo is happy to see you."
PostPosted: Mon Jul 10, 2006 7:43 pm

Logan smiled and wagged his tail and blinked once or twice to try and clear his vision, he was quite tired but didn't want to show it,
"I'm glad both of you are doing well." he flashed a smile towards Echo, as if trying to tell her that he was glad that she was glad to see him...he figured if he said anything it would sound weird or stupid.

He went to say something else, opening his mouth then shutting it, considering what he was going to say. He wanted to ask if they had thought anymore on teh subject of going back with him, to Phib's lands. There he would help them settle in, introduce them to a couple wolves he knew that would be cutious to both of them.

He wanted to ask but he couldn't bring himself to it.

Logan wanted to respect teh bond Echo and Ophelia had, though it was hard for him to not just come out and ask right away, like the anxiousness inside him demanded he was to ask.

"I'm glad I found my way back here...I didn't want to break my promise," he said considerably, smiling all the while. He wanted to let Echo know he truly cared about her, adn teh promise he made to keep coming to visit her. But he hoped Ophelia agreed with the whole arrangement of the promise as well. He didn't want to over-step any bounds.

Echo's tail came to an abrubt stop when the talking began between sister and friend. She thought that Ophelia seemed a bit... what was the word? Well, she didn't really seem comfortable or relaxed. Perhaps she didn't trust Logan. There was good reason for her to have no trust in strangers, and she found herself not even thinking of blaming her. There was plenty reason behind all of their cautiousness.

"Ophelia," she murmured, looking at the ground instead of at anyone in particular. "Do you not like him?" The question held no emotion; it was monotonous. It was simply an inquiry to let the runt know her twin's true feelings. She left out any emotion in an attempt to get the most honest repsonse that she could by making it sound like she didn't care what the answer might be.

"Didn't break promise," she said aloud, to Logan, a small smile occupying her features again. She was glad he didn't go against his word. That, of all things, would have Ophy shunning him like there was no tomorrow.

Glancing between her sister and Logan, she thought for a moment.

"Sister, ask him what his business is here. The last time I saw him.. I don't think things were so well between us."
