((Just a place to keep Oleo's experiences while staying with Foenix and Nehanda . . .))
Nehanda landed on the porch of Air Song's house, and knocked before taking a deep sigh. It was later in the afternoon then she had planned, and Foenix was a bit miffed at her. How was she supposed to have known that Pueblo's search for the cave from her dream woud take so long?
The door was opened quickly by a little boy. "Handa!" he cried. "You's here and I'ma all ready to go!" Oleo was feeling pretty excited. He got to play with Handa for days and days and days! The excitement was almost enough to overcome his nervousness about being without Air Song.
"Oleo? Wow." Nehanda studied the child. The dramatic coloring of his gryphon form had carried over into an even more striking humanoid form. "Yup, I'm here. This is going to be fun! If you've got your stuff, we can head out right now. It's going to be a bit of a trip, I'm afraid, because I don't think I can fly the both of us all the way. We'll have to walk a bit."
"S'okay. I like walkin'."
Goodbyes with Air song were dealt with quickly, and Oleo hugged his mother tightly. Nehanda promised to take good care of him, and he barely resisted rolling his eyes. It wasn't like he wa a baby, after all . . . He continued to wave goodbye as the two of them walked away down the path toward the Land Bridge.
"Do you want to try flying for a bit? I should at least be able to get us to the edge of the island before I need a break." At Oleo's eager nod, Nehanda picked him up in her arms. Her take-off was a bit rockier then usual, for it was difficult to run with the small boy held tightly to her. But they managed, and Nehanda rose quickly above the tree level.
"Wow." Oleo's eyes were huge as he looked down below them. "So far up." He'd never gotten anywhere near this high when he flew!
Nehanda laughed at his astonished expression. "Hang on tight. Here we go!"

Oleo woke up with a yawn. Opening his eyes, he looked around the room, momentarily confused by his surroundings. This wasn't his room! Where was he?
Even as he thought it, he remembered. Nehanda had brought him to her house, where he was gonna get to play for a coupl'a days. That could be fun, and Foenixfyre, Nehanda's mommy, was really nice. She'd made cookies, and let him have two right before he went to bed! He sat up and swang his legs off the bed, wondering vaguely about breakfast.
Nehanda was at the table, drinking a mug of tea and munching her way through some sliced fruit. "Morning, sleepy head!" she welcomed Oleo cheerfully. After breakfast, would you like to help me out in the garden?"
Oleo nodded. They'd taken a quick look at the gardens upon arriving the night before. Nehanda seemed really proud of them, and they were kinda pretty. There were lots of different plants, in nice straight rows. Nehanda had promised to tell him about each plant.
Foenix bustled in, and greeted Oleo with a smile and a pat on the head. "I've got some cold milk, Oleo. Would you like some fruit and cereal? Nehanda, you should at least have some toast. That fruit isn't enough for breakfast." As she spoke, she quickly set out more food, and everyone dug in. Nehanda rolled her eyes and grinned at Oleo. Her guardian could be a bit of a worrywort . . .
Once breakfast was finished, Oleo followed Nehanda outside. Together, they hauled water over from the small pond in front of the house. Nehanda let him use the little watering can that she had used as a child. It took a lot of trips, and he was feeling pretty tired by the time every plant in the garden was watered.
"This is the dry season, Oleo. We don't get much rain, so I have to work harder to make sure all my plants get the water they need." Nehanda offered him a gulp of water, and a bandana to wipe the sweat off his face. Even though this was considered the "cool" season, the temperatures were still pretty high!
Oleo nodded. "What's dat one?" He pointed to a slender bunch of green shoots. The leaves smelled spicy and good.
Nehanda grinned. "That's basil. Come on; I'll tell you more about it."

Nehanda bent over, wings flaring out behind her in a vague attempt to keep them out of the dirt, as she pulled up a few weeds from around the St. John's Wort. Hmmm. The soil was still a little thin over here. Reaching over into one of the sacks and containers nearby, she measured out a careful handful out fertilzers and chemicals. Not too much, though. She was very firm on allowing the plants to achieve their growth naturally.
When Foenix took me over to the mainland, we went to a non-organic farm. The tomatoes were the size of my head! But they tasted so bland. and the same was true for almost everything that grew there. Nope, I'm never going to force my garden so unnaturally.
She leaned forward, and the carry-sak worn habitually over her shoulder bumped against her side, heaving with the weight of the seed pod. Nehanda paused to check on it, and shifted the bag farther around to her back. The pod had begun to glow yesterday. Did that mean the gryphon would emerge soon? She hoped so.
She was steadily mixing the fertilizers into the soil when Oleo came dashing out of the house.
"Slep in sowy Fweenix made me eat bweyfas fus!" The little boy knocked shaggy bangs back from his eyes as he grabbed up the watering can and raced around the house to the pond out front.
Nehanda stifled a giggle, interpreting Oleo's blur as "I slept in! Sorry! Foenix made me eat breakfast first!" The kid was seriously cute. "Oleo, slow down! It's okay. The plants aren't gonna die if you water them thirty minutes late!"
As a crash and a loud splat! came from the direction of the pond, followed by Oloe's gulped "Oopsie . . ." Nehanda shook her head and stood up to go find out what he'd tripped over this time in his rush.
Seriously cute.

Air decided to drop off in Foe's island instead of her own. It had been almost two months since she had seen Oleo and she was eager to see him. She could always sleep on the island Centre or something before picking a ferry to her own home.
She slowly knocked on the door, not too loud. Shaking from excitement, she had left Oleo not long after he had become a child. She had been wondering how he had been doing, and was just all too exited with the idea of seeing him again.

Foenix opened the door. As usual, there was a mug of tea in one hand, and some random piece of knitting in the other. "Hello? Oh, Air! It's good to see you. Come on in. How was your trip? Nehanda's out back with Oleo. They're watering the plants, and should be in shortly."
She quickly ushered the other woman in. "It's been so much fun to have him here. Thanks for letting him stay with us."
The back door opened, closed, followed shortly by the clomp of hoofed feet. "We're all finished, Foenix! Oleo's hungry. But Oleo's always hungry, right? He's just a big bottomless pit!" Her words produced a bright giggle. The Aerandir walked out into the main room where Air and Foenix waited. "Air! You're back!"

Air felt a bit strange and somewhat intimidated by being rushed in, she giggled, trying to keep cool. "It's good to see you too! I can't really thank you enough for taking care of him on such short notice!, did he behave? had any problems with him?" Foenix hadn't answered when Nehanda stepped in.
"Ah hello Nehanda!" smiled Air, ... "he really eats that much?" she said all of a sudden quite surprised.
The sound of the back door opening and closing again was heard in and the voice of a small child "Handaaa! I'ma hungry!" he stepped into the main room still holding a bucket when Air came into his sight. He remembered the person there, she had been some time with her before she went again.
"MOoooom!" he said smiling widely. He wanted to hug her but where to leave the bucket? it was muddy on the bottom so he couldn't just place it on the floor. He looked around walking aimlessly nearby trying to find a place to leave it, hefinally went towards Nehanda and raised the bucket for her to hold. "Handa?"

Nehanda immediately reached down to take the bucket. "Thanks for all your help, buddy. I'll just put this out back," she announced, and stepped out of the room.
Foenix grinned. "Oleo's been a complete gem. He's such a great help around the house! And little boys are supposed to be bottomless pits." She raised her voice a bit, directing it at Nehanda, who had quickly returned. "Unlike some young ladies who completely forget about proper meals."
Nehanda shrugged unabashedly. "Oleo and I've had a lot of fun. We even went over to Ar'Idil one afternoon and played with Blanche."

"Yes! I was good" said Oleo as he held his arms up for Air, confirming what Foe had just said.
Air took him in her arms quite happy with having her little boy back. It was nice having someone to hug again.
Remembering the afternoon with Blanche he added to Nehanda's comment "It was fun! Bwanche and Handa pwayt hide 'n sik with me. I won! I founds them eazy" he finally said proudly.

Nehanda grinned. "Yup! You found us really quickly." She paused as she remembered something. "I hope you don't mind, Air, but I have a little present for Oleo to take home with him. I'll be right back."
She ran up to her workroom, and was back quickly, holding a small plant. "Oleo should recognize this, since he helped me to pot it. It's a clipping from my aloe vera plant. We potted several last week, and I thought he'd like to take one home with him. The sap can be used to heal burns, cuts, and rashes, and the flowers are also really pretty. You'll want to water it about once a week."

Oleo quickly wiggled out of Air's grasp and ran for the pot smiling widely. "I have one for me nows" he said carefully taking the pot from Nehanda as he smiled at her. "Thanku Handa!" he said looking happy at the idea of having his own plant. "I'll take care of it Handa" he said without taking his eyes off the pot.
"Thank you very much for everthing Foe, Nehanda. And that reminds me, I also have something for you I brought from the mainland." she said as she opened her bag, finally taking out after a while a brand new gardening tool set and a silver set of earrings and necklace with some red accents. "These two are for the both of you"

"Oh, wow." Foenix accepted the jewelry and held it up. The silver glistened in the soft afternoon light. "This is so gorgeous, Air. Thank you!" With a grin, she slipped the earrings on, and shook her head. The dangles swung cheerfully.
Nehanda was similarly taken with the new set of tools. "These are terrific! I've been needing some new tools, too. There's a crack down the handle of my old trowel." Carefully shuffling everything into one arm, she bent down and used the other to hug Oleo. "I had a really great time. We'll have to get together again soon; maybe I can fly over for lunch some time. And once Air teaches you to read and write, we can send each other letters!"

"I'm glad you like them" replied Air back. "I had quite a hard time deciding what to get for you" she laughed lighly.
Oleo got closer to Handa as she hugged him, holding the small plant in one arm he used the other other to cling from Nehanda's neck. "I will learn fast Handa!".
"Well, we should be going now", Air said, smiling, still happy with the current events. "We hope to see you soon" she said taking Oleo's hand.
"Bye Handa, bye Pheenics."
"Thank you for everything!"
"thanku!"
