Remi grasped tightly onto Gavin's hand as she helped him walk down the stairs. Recently her little boy just wouldn't stop talking about 'Osha.' At first she thought this may have been some sort of food or toy that she wasn't aware existed, but as time went on she figured this might actually be a person. Needless to say, Gavin really wanted to meet Osha again.
Gavin could hardly contain himself. He was going to see Osha again! Osha, Osha, Osha. He could say that name so many times and it would never stop being fun! It was only Mommee's hold on his hand that kept him from bounding down the stairs.
When they had reached the floor below, Remi 'erked' as Gavin finally managed to pull free and ran toward the door on this level. She could only guess that this was Osha's home. Gavin banged loudly on the door, much to Remi's horror at the complete lack of tact and manners.
"Osha home?" he yelled with a big smile on his toddler face.

Luckily for Gavin, Bani was at home with Osha today. And that was a good thing, because otherwise he would have been with Dacian... wherever that kooky mage was, anyway.
Osha was currently sitting on the floor in the middle of the room, staring intently at the dust bunny that was tumbling by. Oh man, dust bunnies? There was NO better entertainment. Except perhaps for Mr. Fluffy. Oh man, they had good times. They could blow up the world, if they wanted.
... Hey wait, he hadn't seen Mr. Fluffy in so long. And He was jivin', man. He needed his FIX. He hadn't seen anyone in quite a while, actually, but for some reason it was the hawk boy he wanted to see most.
Before the toddler could get anywhere with this line of thought, however, he could have sworn his wishes came down from heaven when someone banged loudly on their door. "YES?! YES!!"
Bani, who was at her desk (deviously doing something or other, I might add) mechanically got up and walked over, throwing Osha a curious look.
What the hell?
"Hello?" she answered warily back, slowly opening door.
She hoped it wasn't a tax collector. Those guys would find out your mom's address if that's what it took to get you to pay up.

The door was opening. Here it comes! Osha would surely be behind it! Except not. The woman opening the door would be met with a very bewildered looking toddler staring up at her with two very large, orange distraught eyes.
"Osha?" he asked, almost wimpering in shock. How could this be? Had he been wrong? His world had shattered.
Remi noticed the wary woman behind the door.
"Hello," she smiled sheepishly, trying to hide her embarrassment. "I'm very sorry to bother you. It's just--well, my son seems to have made a friend and he dragged me out of the apartment to find him. Does Osha live here?"
Remi really hoped he did. She didn't think she could contain the embarrassment if this was, in fact, the wrong apartment.

Baniru grinned at the two, trying hard not to snort, or laugh, or do something completely and utterly stupid. You know how it gets when you feel you're going to do something retarded in front of a stranger...
"He sure does," she said lightly, flicking her hand behind her in gesture, "let me go get Mr. Popularity."
The light noise of cooking shows filtered out of the background, as a toddler came stumbling to the door. He rubbed his eyes for a minute, confronted with new sights and people, before realizing...
"GAVIN?" the boy said in all caps, smiling like a madman, "YES?!"
Bani stalked behind her son like a shadow, holding the door open. She gazed up at Remi with a look that clearly said:
I swear he's not my child.
"Would you like to come in?"

At the first sight of Mr. Popularity in the doorway, Gavin mirrored the sentiments of his friend, "YES!"
And just for good measure, he ran foward and added a huge hug--well, more like a tackle--to go along with it. "Osha!"
It was just like when they first met. Except that this time they were at Osha's home, rather than on a stairwell. And Gavin jumped at Osha at a much lower altitude than before.
Remi smiled at Bani's expression, knowing the feeling. Apparently the two boys had gotten to know each other quite well.
"Sure, I'd love to," she replied, walking toward the open door. "Thanks. Sorry for just barging in, but I thought Gavin was going to spaz if I didn't let him come try and find Osha."

Osha giggled, eagerly giving a hug back. He was obviously excited at seeing one of his best friends in the entire universe.
"Come!" he giggled happily, and tried dragging Gavin past his mother inside. He couldn't wait to show Gavin his room of make-believe.
Baniru raised a brow at the toddlers, but moved aside. She was getting the feeling that she had missed something entirely with the two.
"Oh, don't worry about it," she held the door open for the other woman, "I'm just glad Osha made a friend. They seem to like each other well enough."
This was a kind of nice suprise, after all. Bani never had anyone come to her door asking for anything, usually. And it kind of sucked. Like when you don't get mail from anyone.

Gavin urked as Osha tugged him inside. Well this place was new! Not nearly as shiny and big as Haki's home, but new was still good.
"Go where?" he asked as he tried to keep up.
Remi blinked as her son was whisked away by his friend with a look of, I didn't know they could move that fast. No wonder Gavin could get around the compound without a problem.
"They sure do," she pushed away her amazement at toddler speed, and walked inside. "So how long have you been here?"

The house itself actually looked pretty old, and all the furnishings looked broken in and used. The floor was hard wood, save for the various large carpets that were placed about, and the walls looked like some madman had taken a paintbrush and spattered various colors everywhere. There was a large rocking chair in the living room, as well as a small tv on a stand and a large, comfy couch. A few hammie-down toys lay forgotten in the middle of it all. The only notable thing the kitchen had was a cookie jar and various locked drawers (darn those locks!), and then that led off to a hallway with various pictures hung on the walls.
"To room!" he said happily, and ran giggling like a mad man down the hall. At the end was a large room, the rainbrow-brite door open to reveal even more rainbrow-brite walls.
"A few months," Bani responded with a chuckle, closing the door, "Please excuse the mess of my home- but how about you?"

Gavin's eyes widened when he saw the colorful door. Colors! He liked colors. After running behind Osha to get there, he plopped down on his bottom just to stare at everything. Woah...Osha's room had to be the coolest thing he'd ever laid his eyes on. Not even Haki had anything like this.
"Your room pretty!" he awed. His own room was filled with oranges and browns. Not that he didn't like those colors, but this was rainbow.
"Wow, then you've been here a while then," Remi's eyes widened in surprise. She'd only been there a matter of weeks. "I've only just come in the past two weeks."
Another realization hit her.
"Oh my! I've almost forgot to introduce myself," she smiled sheepishly. She held out her hand, "My name's Remi."

"Ah, well," it was Bani's turn to look sheepish, as she took Remi's hand, "I'm not very well off, I guess you can tell, so I kind of stayed here the entire time that Osha was still a soul..."
"I'm Baniru," she added, and rubbed the back of her head in a nervous gesture, "Well Remi, feel free to make yourself at home. I'm doing laundry right now, so if there's anything you want washed, then I can take care of it."
Osha nodded, proud, "Mom and me paint it. I love."
He grinned at Gavin then, and toddled over to his tiny, Lisa Frank bed. It wasn't really Lisa Frank, but it looked like a rainbow had melted or something. The toddler bent over, and pulled out a box with a loud grunt from under the piece of furniture. It was kind of small, and not really heavy, but it took a bit for Osha to drag it out to the middle of the many colored carpet.
Everything in his room was different colors. They clashed in the worst way possible, but that was alright- none of them were blingingly bright.
"Play?"

"I'm right with you in not being well off," Remi smiled as they shook hands. "I was about to move into a cardboard box if it hadn't been for the free rent here."
She blinked at Bani's comment on laundry. "Uh, well I didn't bring any with me. I didn't think it'd be a good neighborly gesture to show up for the first time with a basket full of laundry to do. I usually do it in the morning, but I guess I could bring down what I have so far..."
Her voice trailed off. No one had ever offered to do her laundry before.
She smiled, "But only if I can help. People have been so nice to me here, so I don't want to seem like I'm just a loafer."
Gavin's eyes widened. Well he wanted to paint his own room too, then! Maybe he could talk Mommee into letting him redo his room like Osha's. Heck, he might even get Osha to help. Now that would be even more fun.
He cocked his head to the side as Osha pulled the box out from underneath the bed.
"I got box underneath bed too!" he chirped, delighted that he shared so many similarities with his best friend EVER. When Osha finished dragging out the box, Gavin peered inside.
"Play! Yes! What in box?"

"... Oh," Bani smiled, looking a bit more relaxed. Finally! Someone else to share something in common with! All the other women she'd met had either been snobs, mary sues, or just flat out psycho. It was a good turn of fortune she was talking to someone human, for once.
"Where I come from, it was culture to do such things. Weird, huh? It was just a habit of mine," she winked, and jokingly continued "You can do the dishes as payment instead."
Osha gasped a little, wondering what Gavin could possibly have in his own box. That was so cool! Oh man, they'd have to get together and just have a BOX FEST. They could bust out the Voltron and Transformers, and maybe- maybe even the Easy Bake Oven.
"Secret," Osha whispered, looking suddenly suspicious. But he tipped the box over anyway, and out poured the one magical, mystical, multi-colored thing that every kid never had enough of.
Legos.

"Well then," Remi started with a smile, still finding it awkward that someone actually wanted to her laundry for her. Dishes wouldn't be too hard. "Sounds like a good trade off. I'll be right back with my stash. It should only take a minute."
She rushed out with a wave. About two minutes later she appeared in the doorway again with a large basket of clothes covered in everything from mud to tomato sauce to something that Remi suspected was sewage water, but she couldn't be too sure.
"Most of these are Gavin's things," she grinned. "I've got one or two things in there somewhere, but I'm sure they're probably covered in whatever Gavin soiled his in already. Now where are those dishes?"
Gavin's eyes widened with the colorful blocks poured out of the box.
"Legos!" he yelled happily, diving into the pile. Red, blue, yellow, green...woah, was that a purple one? His own room had a bin of these, but not nearly as many as Osha. He predicted more visits in the near future. Maybe he could bring Haki too, and they could build her a castle.
"What to build?" Gavin inquired, holding up a few blocks. "Castle? House? Wall? Monster?"

Bani just stood in the small living room, kind of dumbstruck, until Remi came back in with the mound. She hadn't exactly meant her comment about the trade off, but hey, if Remi was willing... She couldn't help but laugh a little.
"Over there," she pointed to a heap in the kitchen sink, still chuckling a bit, "You know, I think we're going to be good friends."
And with that, the woman swooped up the laundry and drug it over to the washer and dryer, which were cramped a little farther back in the kitchen, and began sorting. Or, trying to sort. She looked over the infamous tomato sauce shirt for a full two minutes before she decided it wasn't red to begin with.
Osha dove in too, giggled like a mad man. He loved his legos- they were one of the only toys he had (and hadn't forgotten about). "Build..." he thought for a moment, considering the options.
"Monster?"

Remi smiled sheepishly again, moving toward the sink. "I'd hope so. It's nice to know someone who lives so close."
Everyone she knew seemed to live over the building by the labs. Not that she didn't like it over there, it was just getting tiring to walk all the way over there and face more and more stairs. One of these days she'd let the mages know that an elevator was in their best interests.
"And yes, that shirt used to be light blue," she pointed toward the shirt that wasn't supposed to be red. She grabbed the first dish and started scrubbing. "Not too sure how Gavin managed that one."
"Big scary monster!" Gavin threw his arms up in the air, as if he'd just had the best idea in the world. "We scare Mommies!"
Because scaring mothers was a little boy's favorite pasttime. He did it on a daily basis, though many times it wasn't on purpose. How was he supposed to know that his sneaking outside the apartment nearly sent Remi into cardiac arrest every time?
