You know how the insides or certain jackets are often different then the outside? Like I have a leather jacket and the inside is fleece. The fleece is lining. (How about the seinfeld ep. where he buys that expensive jacket with the pink and white candy-stripe on the inside? XD)

Lining can be made out of just about anything, other then fleece it can be cotton fabric or silk (most common). It depends in part on what you're making.

I hope that explains some things...

^^ I understand... I'm making a cosplay outfit/dress (Tohru Honda's 'the thing' dress) color to the picture is darker than it really is...:

I'm using broadcloath for the dress, I don't know what fabric would be best for lining with the broadcloth and also the broadcloth is somewhat transparent, so I need something that'll fix that x.x;

if the broadcloth is about the same color as the dress in the pic then using a white cotton lining should be fine. If not, go for a yellow-creamish color. I say cotton mainly because it will probably be the most comfertable and breath the best.

Muslin is good. Cheap, no more than a dollar to the yard, and its cotton. It dyes well. You can get in bleached or unbleached which is creamier. Its lightweight too.

no offense to anyone else, but do not use a cotton muslin or fabric of th sort for a lining, even if it's just for a cosplay.
lining's are meant to help the garment hang better and provide ease of dressing as well as somewhat of a light barrier.
linings also do not necessarily have to be the same color as the fashion fabric.
pick something slippery such as a polyester or rayon satin weave, any fabric store near you or online will have a lining section. there are better ones such as silks or bemberg rayons, but a simple rayon or poly lining will work.

the lining should pretty much be the exact pattern piece, with added length for hemming and in cases added ease so the garment won't stick to you.
