Yes, the mainstream idea of a hippie is a dirty, long haired, pot smoking, idiotic, person. I admit, from time to time I smoke pot, and enjoy getting high. But I can only stand to do that maybe once a month or so!. I am a hippie, and you don't see me constantly stoned! I am a deep person, and a pacifist, who is in a band (I play bass) and I think about hard life questions all the time, and try to answer them for my own well-being. Hell, even if I'm stoned, I feel more creative and relaxed, and open minded to things. I am sick of the stereotypical view towards hippies. Not only hippies, but other "labels" also. People see gothic people as freaks, preppy people as snobs, punks as people whose whole life is vandolizing things, etc. People who stereotype people need to look deeper into themselves and into other people. Any thoughts?

Exactly. Sad but true. The world needs hippies now to fix the problems which is ironic because hippies are looked down on and laughed at in normal society.

I think its a dumb stereotype, but saddly I fit in it.
I've cut back on the drugs though.

I'm more into mediation, spirituality and yoga now.

I hate that people think that by doing drugs and listening to classic rock you're instantly a hippy. Seriously, get over yourself.

If I've learned anything, it's that yuppies smoke just as much as hippies do. Yet those consumer whores get away with looking like poster children for perfection. I don't smoke pot but because of my ideals people think I do. In other words; it;s just another stereotype. 3nodding

wel it was simply a generation of drugs plus people were just starting to get into other cultures and religion. hippies were into spirituality and many religions cuztoms were to be enlightened and dugs would help. they saw them as wisdom drugs. these were ganja,acid, shrooms,other helucinagins(spelled tht wrong i know)as to make the brain perform the opposite effect of being wise(cocaine, heroin, crack, etc) tht generation used drugs cuz of other cultures and thts wat it was known for.This generation is goin to be known as the thizzers, i alrdy know it. god and they say cocaine is making a comeback how stupid. all i wuld take it ganja, shrooms, and maybe drop acid once. but thts all id do nuthin else. but id be kinda scared to take acid but god tht be soo fun i bet.

Personally, I'm anti-drug. I come from a long line of people who were born with chemical imbalances in their brains, and for me, putting some mind-altering drug into my system would be a dangerous choice. All the same, I suppose if drug-users are not hurting anyone, I can't attack their lifestyle. It's a personal choice, and I just happen to be on the other side.

As far as the hippie stereotype, it doesn't bother me. I don't think I really fit into anyone category, and I know I am certainly not a "hippie" as most people would define it. I don't think stereotyping is right, but it is a facet of society that is nearly irremovable. People must simply learn to deal with it. If they would like to change it they can start by ignoring stereotypes and by thinking (and acting) like tolerant human beings.

My friend thinks all hippies do drugs.Man, only if you want, I might smoke when I get older. But hey, it doesn't make us bad people!
