Black paws with small white dots on each two pounded into the ground as the owner flew over the savannah. Korou's right leg was pulled up against his chest as he ran, making it look rather strange and giving him more muscle in his front left leg than normal. The small orange spotted black cheetah had grown more than accustomed to the fact that his front right leg was almost useless from all of the force and bad times that he'd been through, but as long as he could streak along at this speed and not be using it he was happy.
In fact he was usually happy despite all his problems, from not being able to use his leg, to not being able to see out of his left eye, to slowly going blind in his right. Korou didn't really care that much as long as he could act just like any other cheetah that lived. In fact the simple fact that he was alive at all made him happy.
So he simply ran as fast as he could and felt the wind rush over his fur.

Chopi lay resting under the shade of a rock. Her fur was ruffled from sleeping. Her jaws parted in a furious yawn as she shook the sleep from her system. The gold frame stood and stretched out her thin legs. By the feeling of the breeze against her she concluded that it would be a pleasent day. She carfully slipped from her shade and went looking for the water hole at a leisurely pace. It seemed careless to go any faster without finding water.
Her eyes were still blurry when she saw the black and orange dot. It was moving fast, she could clearly see that but it seemed so familiar. Squinting to see closer she finally found what it was.
"Korou!"

His name being yelled over the brown and green grass fronds of the savannah noon made Korou freeze mid-step and take a header on the ground because his left leg didn't fall down to meet the ground like it would have any other. As a result he skidded over the ground for a moment or two before coming to a stop on his side with a heavy thud. The next second he popped back up as if nothing had happened, gotta love that cub-like reflex, and peered around to see the owner of the voice.
Korou found it almost useless to look because his eye was so blurred over that he had to rub the back of his wrist against it angrilly until he heard the familiar pop of it settling again. Lifting his head once more he spotted the orange and gold cheetah female that he had seen once before. His heart fluttered and a huge grin crossed his muzzle slowly.
"Chopi!" He cried out over the savannah and took off running in her direction with his bizarre run.

Chopi's maw parted and her eyes brightened with glee at the figure coming toward her. She chuckle, more in worry, and hurried to him. He seemed a bit off and favored one of his legs. The female cheetah bounded at a full sprint. He seemed so far even at her speed. Her tail held her balance as she skidded to a stop before him. A smile showed through her panting as she took a step forward. The smile melted away when she inspected him. Even at a distance she could see something was wrong.
"Korou..." His name was a reassurance that she could take care of him.

The second Chopi came to as stop in front of him Korou hit the brakes and landed with his head against her belly and began to purr on impact. He'd missed her though he'd only ever seen the pleasant female once in his life time. And a short lifetime it was.
"Chopi! It really is you!" Korou crowed happily through his purrs, squinting his slowly fading right eye to gaze up at her with a happy grin. "I've missed you, where did you go?"
Confusion seemed to fill his voice as he looked at the orange and gold female before him. Oh how he'd missed her. It wasn't just because she seemed like a mother to him, in fact it was a different reason from that altogether. He wasn't sure what his feelings for Chopi were. But all the same his black and orange spotted tail wagged back and forth happily as he purred and rubbed the top of his head back and forth across her belly contently.

The golden female purred in contentment as the cub rubbed against her stomach. An overwhelming joy came over her as she placed a gentle paw on his back. It was nice to feel him against her again but somehow it felt different. His size had changed and he seemed much bigger than the little cub that she had met seemingly an eternity ago.
"I've missed you too my dear Korou." Her tail twitched behind her. "I've been prowling the savanna like always. Where have you been?"
Her tongue gently began to groom his scruff as she continued purring. His answer wasn't too important to her. Just knowwing that he was with her again sent another rumble through her chest. She didn't quite know why she cared so much for him but ideas always crossed her mind of a future with him. Together.

Prowling the savannah. Korou couldn't say that was bad, he'd been doing some of that himself after all. His tail wagged a bit and suddenly it twitched and he used his good paw to rub his eye once again. Stupid eye had to keep glassing over on him. Of course Korou didn't know what it meant, how could he know what it meant? He was a cub.
"I've been doing the same, but I've been learning how to run again. Are you smaller?" the juvenile asked the female he was curled into happily. She did seem smaller, though it didn't cross his mind that it was because he was so much larger now. In fact he thought she was shrinking.
How would he know?
As she groomed his neck and head the smaller cheetah leaned up and licked her chest and the underside of her neck, pulling out fluffs of her orange and gold fur. It didn't matter though did it?

Chopi happily trilled. The boy that she had been worrying about was back in her paws and she didn't want to let him go again. The world was so cruel to those like him. Her red eyes roamed him again, taking in Korou's condition.
How had he gotten this way?...
Her mind whirred as she curled onto her belly and began ckeaning his neck almost motherly. The fur that he pulled out had been loose. She would have lost it by days end anyway. "Thank you for the grooming." She nuzzled the black cub.
"I haven't gotten smaller. You're just getting bigger Korou."

"I am? I didn't think I'd get bigger. I thought I'd get a lot smaller" Korou responded with a bright laugh. His black and orange spotted tail wagged over the dirt happily as he continued down his path and wound up licking Chopi's belly.
She seemed so much warmer and prettier than she had before. Why that was Korou couldn't have begun to decide. But she was. She even smelled nicer.
Crossing his eyes a bit at the last comment, the cheetah shook his head faintly because that had sounded weird even in his head.
"Are you going to leave me and go wandering again Chopi?" Korou asked rather suddenly, forcing his dying eyes to glance up at her and focus on her perfect gold head carefully. The thought of losing her to her wanderings again tore at his heart, but the cheetah male understood that sometimes you had to.

Chopi yawned and flopped onto her side. "Of course you're getting bigger Korou." She chuckled and licked her paws. Thankful that the sun wasn't too high, Chopi was able to lie in the sun. It felt nice to finally have someone around her especially when she cared so deeply about the one she was with.
Something about the cub seemed a bit off. Of course she hadn't seen him for so long but the instinct still pulled at her.
"Is something wrong Korou?"
Her voice was sweet and calm. The cheetah didn't to worry him if she had pointed something out. She lay waiting for his answer unti he spoke again. Chopi rolled to her stomach and starred at the juvenile. Korou's saddness set fire to her heart as she wrapped a paw around him, relishing in hi warmth.
"Never Korou." She pulled him close against her, soft pink tongue lashing out along his cheek. "I won't leave ever again."

Something wrong? Yes, there was something wrong. But he wasn't about to tell her that he got the feeling that he wasn't able to see as well out of his remaining eye as he was once able. That just felt like beating a dying horse... or so he'd heard the statement said. But Korou didn't care any longer. She was with him.
"Well... no. Not anymore." He said softly as she answered his question, snuggling his head against her golden cheek and purring so loud the gods in the heavens above had to hear his joy. "You won't? Really?"
Never alone again? Never? His weak heart felt like it might burst from the joy he felt and all he could do was purr from it. That was it. To purr till his vocal cords would hurt.

The golden cheetah smiled at the juvenile before her. He seemed to grow everytime she looked at him. Not quite in body but in mind. She was proud of the orange spotted cheetah even if he wasn't her child. A soft chirp came from her.
"I hope not but you know that you can tell me anything. Right?" The tip of her tail flicked as she rubbed her head against his. His soft fur tickled her nose and she nuzzled him. A chuckle came from her as she dragged her tongue along his growing scruff. "No. I won't leave you if you don't want me to."

Tell her everything? But then she would worry. A light frown covered his dark muzzle for a brief moment before Korou pricked his ears up and burrowed into Chopi's soft belly contently.
"I'll tell you.... sooner or later. I promise." He said happily. "And if you leave then I'm going with you." His tail thrashed over the ground lightly as he gazed up at her. He didn't want her to leave him, he didn't want to be alone any longer.
To be without her after meeting up with her like this.... that would most likely break him of what was left. There was something inside of him twisting and he knew faintly of what it was, but he didn't want to tell her. Maybe he would tell her when he told her about the blindness. Maybe then.

Chopi was the happiest she had been in awhile. Knowing that the cub wouldn't leave her nor her him was enough to send her heart leaping from her chest. Something may have been ailing Korou but it didn't matter at that moment. Thr orange spotted black cub would always mean the world to her no matter what.
"I won't force you to tell me little one. I'm just letting you know that I'm here to tell." Her maw split in the goofy smile that came to her every so often. A paw slipped down to slowly stroke his fur back into place from all of their nuzzling.
"Then we will never be apart."
Those words rang in her ears like a sweet bell causing them to twitch happily. Korou was hers from now onward.

Purring louder than before Korou snuggled into her and licked her one more time before standing brightly and backing up a bit. It was getting incredibly hot all of a sudden, probably because the sun was out and his fur was black, but either way that didn't matter.
"Can we find somewhere that's really shady? It's bright and for some reason the sun doesn't like me all that greatly." The juvenile cheetah laughed sheepishly at himself for his own shortcomings from the color of his fur, but he knew that Chopi wouldn't care.
Wagging his tail he pawed playfully at her leg and smiled up at her brightly, waiting to see what she would say but already knowing the answer.
