Good movie, anybody seen it? ^^ I feel it's a wonderfully done movie and has some of the best scenes. Granted I wasn't too fond of the auction ending. *nod* Anybody else seen this movie? 3nodding

Considering we were talking about this in the Chatterbox a few days ago... yes, some of us have seen it. Great movie. What do you mean you weren't fond of the auction ending? I loved it! That is what happens to good violins, anyway. I like how he took the violin to continue its legend instead of giving it to the a*****e who was going to "preserve" it. I wished that they hadn't actually shown Pope and his mistriss having sex, though... Great soundtrack. John Coorgliano is a fabulous composer.

*feels dumb* lol. I told you guys I'm not a huge forum person. ^^; *never pays attention to stuff like chatterboxes* Too many topics at once. The pains of an organization freak.
I just didnt' like the fact that he stole it. Regaurdless of his intentions it was wrong - and someone was left cheated and payed countless amounts of money for a fake. That just doesn't sit well with me.
Granted, when I first realized what it was painted with I was just as shocked as the man who stole it. Dude, I honestly didnt' 'see the blood thing coming.

He did some mixing with other stuff to make it more paint like. But yeah, the reason he did it and how it fit with the plot worked well though. ^_^

Wow...ok. You missed the point entirely. Please take note that the film followed the violin through its colorful history, telling its story. Had it been sold to the rich a*****e it would have been sitting in a glass case and only getting played about once a month to keep the wood flexible enough to catch vibrations. Its story would have been discontinued. Ended. Finished. Fine. By giving the violin to his daughter he continued the violin's legacy and allowed its story to continue. Really, it was the maker's wife whose story was continuing. The legend of the violin, in case you did not catch it, was that when the maker used his dead wife's blood to tint the varnish, and her hair to make the brush, he was putting her soul into the violin. By the way, the process is called following the plot and paying attention to details. Lazy people do not do this. Lazy people also do not read through the pages of a guild they have joined, even if it is as small as this one.

By the way, the process is called following the plot and paying attention to details. Lazy people do not do this. Lazy people also do not read through the pages of a guild they have joined, even if it is as small as this one. For starters yes, I am aware the story was the tale of the woman's life through the violin - aka the blood painted into it - I'm well aware of that. The point i'm trying to make is he still STOLE it - I don't care if it was to give to his daughter or burn in a pile of ashes. It doesn't justify the action. Machiavelli may have approved, but I disagree with the prince. Second of all - I DID follow the plot and I did pay attention. I'm commenting on what I felt. I didn't like the ending of the auction - that doesnt' mean I didn't pick up the point of the movie. I'm actually taken aback from the backward inssult of my intelligence - and the follow up with forum reading was unnecessary.

I am sorry. I just get pissed off with people who don't bother to read the posts in a guild that they are a part of.

I need separate threads for separate topics or my mind doesn't function. I can't stand the clutter that comes from multiple conversations in a single thread. ^^; i'm not a huge forum fan, so I usually only look at threads that have interest.

Dude, Totally awesome movie. I have the soundtrack, and I must say, Joshua Bell did a very good job with the music. The more I listen to him, the more i notice that he has a very distinct sound. Its getting easier and easier to place him when I don't know if he's playing or not. Has anyone else notices specifics or details about players?
I know this is probably a stupid question, but I'd like to know if i'm crazy or not. I like to think I'm getting better at appreciating music and the different styles of different artists.

You're not crazy. I have been listening to classical music since I was a baby (both of my parents are music majors and my mother was a soprano before she had a stroke) but it was not until I started to understand it (about four years ago) that I began to appreciate it. I know what you mean about noticing the difference between different violinists. Whenever I hear a piece performed by a violinist on the radio I try to guess who is playing. Half of the times I am right, and most of the other half I have no clue because I've never heard of them before.
