The late night sky, lit by the pale silver moon with its twinkling stars, seemed very dark and cruel to her tonight. She had escaped from her father to brood over the conversation she had had with Dyami and Rahu earlier, and decided she didn't like it one bit. She now acknowledged that she had still been in love with Rahu, and had to get over it... now.
There was nowhere to turn, however, and no one to talk to... and if she kept up this brooding, she'd only end up with a recently mended heart shattering into a million pieces... again. She didn't want that to happen. Bairn, she heard, had a huge hatred for Rahu... she had to smile sadly at that. She was by herself tonight, so she was allowing her emotions to run free. She didn't want anyone she knew to see her sadness.
She had been hiding her emotions for days now; it was time to let them out. "So, Lady Moon, have you finished toying with me?" she glared up at the moon, tears streaming down her face. She hadn't cried for the longest time. "I thought you were my friend, Lady Moon. And yet... you torture me. Why? Have I done something wrong?" The tears would stop... She weeped for her broken heart and a love that could never be...

Delano walked along the sandy shores, enjoying the way the moon mirrored onto the lake's glasy surface. He enjoyed the night and all that it brang. The peace he so longed and desired for. The wind swept his black mane, silken strands flowing behind him softly. It was then he heard a tear-filled cry. A soft voice, that sounded as if filled with so much hurt and pain. He swiftened his stride and headed the direction it came from. Surely some poor lady was in need tonight and he would find her. His only thought was to find her and comfort her. No lady should be alone and crying without another to share her sorrow. It was his duty to ease her burden, as was his oath in life.

She cried for a time, softly weeping, until she heard the soft pounding of hooves. They were very soft, but somehow she heard them, and quickly blinked away the waterworks. She didn't want anyone to see her at her most weakened state; not now, not ever. Who would care to see her that way? She had met many who mostly saw a strong mare... she could not yet afford any to see the weak one.
The tears were soon gone, her once emotion golden orbs cleared and strong, cold... blocking out the sadness that once was there. She turned to face whoever it was that was coming toward her; hopefully not a stallion she knew, nor family. She'd die if it was family--they'd seen her cry once, and they had not taken it well. She'd rather her family never see her cry again. The only other that had seen her cry was the one she had been... used to be... in love with. But no more.
"...!" She was startled to see that instead of anyone she knew, a red stallion appeared instead.

As he approached he had heard the soft crying. As silent as it had been tried to be kept, his ears were trained to hear even the slightest sounds. She came into sight and he knew she must have ehard his steps. The tears were gone and she seemed to try and appear to be strong, but he could still sense the sorrow...still see the pain in her eyes behind it all. Nothing like that could be hidden from his senses. He slowed to a walk and approached the golden colored mare...or perhaps it was more a rich brown coat but to him it shined golden in the moonlight. She seemed startled and surprised at his appearance, although he knew she heard him coming. Perhaps she was expecting someone else? His red eyes were soft and kind, inviting even. A sympathetic yet concerned expression came across his face as his gaze met hers. He noticed the green feather decorations and braids in her mane. They accented her rich color nicely. He spoke in a soft, gentle voice, "My lady, what has you troubled this night to cry to the moon and stars?"

He was magnificent. Not only had she never seen a unicorn for the longest time (besides Ballestra) but his appearance was stunning. He glowed beautifully under the moon, reminding her of when she had met Shadowfax. But this one... "Ah... so you heard me," she responded, quiet as a lamb. She felt small (it didn't help that the red unicorn was quite mucsled and tall) compared to him, but he seemed kind... his ruby eyes flickered with concern, making her want to spill out her sorrow. Her mask breaking, she allowed her tears to flow once more, turning away slightly to at least hide her tears. "I am weeping for my broken heart, and crying for anger at the one who broke it, for a love that was hopeless, even at the beginning when it was true..."

Delano nodded. He knew this story all too well. Many a lady who had their hearts broken by a cruel stallion. "Yes, I heard. I do not miss much my lady. And what stallion would play with and break the heart of a lovely mare such as yourself? It should be a crime really. " He was angry...such things angered him so much. Had they no sense of nobility? But right now anger was not what she needed and he let the anger leave his eyes and his heart for the moment. He watched her break once again and it almost broke his heart to see her in such turmoil. So much pain, anger and hurt for a love that was never to be. He moved closer and tried to nuzzle her in a comforting manner. He let his head drape down so her head was just under his, his long black mane shieling her tears from any who might be lurking and watching. He spoke softly again, "if you wish I will be here, if you just want someone to listen to your sorrows and comfort your aching heart"

His anger seemed well placed, although at the moment seeing it stung her heart all the more. "The stallion's name? He calls himself Rahu..." she whispered, angry tears streaking her face now, instead of the sorrow-filled ones. "I don't know... I don't know how I fell in love with such a crude male..." Her voice was getting hoarse; she swallowed, trying to clear her throat, however impossible it was as she continued to cry. The last time she had cried was when she had told Rahu that she had loved him, waiting for his answer... and then he rebuked it, and she had cried... cried in sadness and anger, returning his rebuke with words that she now knew she could not regret, even if she wished to. Rahu... the demon... he did not deserve it, even as her heart screamed that she should forgive him. When the red stallion moved closer to nuzzle and comfort her, she took it eagerly. No other would do this for her! Who was this stallion? He's so warm...

"Rahu....." he let is slide off his tongue. He knew the name somehow....oh yes...him... "oh...him. The stallion that accompanied Alora. I met him briefly once. Didn't seem like much to me although he did not seem to be nice at all to poor Bongo." He sighed hearing her words and knowing how much it must hurt and be breaking her heart inside....To have fallen for a mean stallion, only to be heart broken. It was admirable she would try to find the good in even the meanest soquili. His voice softened to a soothing tone, "You seem to have tried to find the good in him. I'm sure its there although he didn't seem to want to let you see it. Such a shame really....for him to give up something so wonderful. I doubt any other mare would have given him a chance like you. I've heard rumors of his cruelty. It truly is his loss" He noticed the hoarseness in her voice, strained from crying. "Come my lady, let us go get a drink of water to soothe your throat and we can talk some more by the water." He lowered his head so his cheek touched hers, his ruby orbs beckoning her to to follow. He would stay with her as long as she needed him. It was then in their closeness, he noticed the green tips in her golden brown mane and tail. What beautiful accent coloration. He could only admire such beauty as hers.

She felt as helpless as a child, to be guided by a grand creature as him. She didn't obsess over the horned ones, but this one was slowly changing her mind... "I did not try to find the good in him," she gave the red horned stallion a shaky smile. "He showed me the small good parts of him, even a bit of his past, and I enjoyed being with him, however cruel he was..." She sucked in a deep breath, slowly following the unicorn as he led her toward a place where she could drink. He had such kind, scarlet orbs... She took in all his comforting with an eagerness that surprised even herself, something she never knew she would do. She wanted to thank him...

Delano smiled at her as they walked. She seemed so strong, even in her weak moment...but everyone had a weak moment no matter how strong they were. "Well then there must be something special about you to bring out the good in even the darkest and cruelest of creatures. I am sorry for your loss, but it is at his expense. He seems to have thrown away the only one perhaps that would have loved him, understood him and even cared and stayed with him. Its sad really. My only regret is to see you hurt by it all." They reached the water and he stood waiting for her to take the refreshment she needed. "My name is Delano." He bowed gracefully, in a gentlemanly way, if a soquili could be seen doing so. "And what may I ask is the name of the enchanting creature whose presence has graced me?"

She stooped to drink up the refreshing water, drinking greedily, for her throat was parched and felt very scratchy. She straightened and turned to look at him, face finally dried of tears and an actual smile on her face, one that was rarely seen. "I hope I do not sound arrogant when I say I completely agree with you about him," she laughed softly, so as not to hurt her throat more. "You needn't call me lady, Delano... for I am called Aruna." She tilted her head at him as he bowed, and she had no other choice but to smile wider. "Neither should you grace me with such an elegant bow... as I am not used to compliments... I recieve very few of such words. I thank you, though... for what you've given me. Too few stallions have given me such kindness as you have... I am in debt to you, fully grateful."

Delano watched her drink and smiled. He knew she needed the cool water on her throat. For now his plan was to stay by the water. Surely she would need to drink some more soon. He blinked in surprise a moment at her words. A mare such as she, never having been treated with kindness such as this? "My ladyb Aruna, it is customary in my beliefs, a mare should always be addressed with kindnes aand grace and the appreciation she so deserves. After all, mares are the beauty and grace of our kind and they are the ones who bring life to our foals. They should be respected and treated as such". He smiled and nuzzled her softly, to show he was still here to comfort her, "Your smile is a wonderous sight. I do hope to see it much more often. You deserve to be happy, not like the state Rahu left you in. You owe me nothing Aruna, for it is I that is in debt to you, to be graced with your presence."

An unwilling and unbidden blush arose to paint her face as Delano nuzzled her, and her smiled appeared to shine. She thought he looked more handsome when he smiled as well. "I like your beliefs. I have met many different stallions... I seem to have this ability to turn over many dark hearts..." She smiled as she thought about Calamity, the Kalona stallion who seemed to praise her. He teased her so, but they liked each other well enough. She supposed it was because she impressed him somehow. "Thank you, Delano... your own smile is magnificent..." It melts my heart... She continued to smile, surprised she could even allow such an emotion. Usually, she was quite reserved. "More complimenting and I may step away, my good sir." She chuckled, and drank a bit more water. "And I believe I do owe you something." She stepped toward him, and with surprising playfulness, squirted a bit of water at him. She kind of figured she could try this "playfulness" feeling... it felt interesting. She laughed. "I hope I did nothing to insult with that? I felt playful all of a sudden."

Delano listened to her voice, soft and as if it was singing. So enchanting was the tone. He had seen her blush and he smiled more, happy he was able to make her smile and forget the pain Rahu had left her in. She seemed to glow a more goldeny shine when she smiled, almost like a wingless angel on the earth. "aAn ability such as yours is a gift Aruna, and should never be wasted. It is wonderful you have touched so many lives and hearts and maybe even changed some of them for the better. Such nobility in a mare is very admirable. His own face flushed a slight purple tingue through his red coat as she complimented his smile. He grinned sheepishly like a foal. He had never had compliments returned by a mare before. Indeed she was quite different then any other he had come across in his experiences. He watched her drink some more, happy to see her do so and top see her spirits lifted. "Well I would not want to see you step away my lady Aruna. " And then she caught him by surprise with the water. He stood there a moment in shock, then chuckled deeply. He had never seen such playful antics from an adult before...but it was refreshing and he veen found his 'playful side' usually reserved for foals come out. "insulting? never!!" He grinned before jumping into the water, sending a wave of water her direction, attempting to splash her.

"Ah!" she squeaked, splashed wet by his small wave of water. "Ah, you'll get it now!" she challenged, running into the water and attemping to splash him back. "I appreciate everything, Delano... and I will never waste it, though I'm not sure if I could call it a gift, heh." When he flushed, she could only blush more and smile all the more. She had done that to few stallions, and only Delano and Rahu had been the ones to make her heart flutter. Wait a minute.
...Delano made her heart flutter.
She repeated that sentence in her head over and over, and was startled to find that, indeed, her heart was beating its fastest, faster than even when she had been with Rahu. Was she falling so fast? It couldn't be! She just got over Rahu... "Never insulting? Good!" she attempted to send another small wave of water at him, but she was yet of a smaller build, and so she decided she would have to use a different tactic. Now, what was that trick her mother always used on her father? Ah, that was the one. She moved closer toward him, and nuzzled him affectionately for a minute, and then splashed him as she sped back, laughing.
