I've heard of this once but i have no idea if its true, my freind said on one his old servers there was a monk with all out + counter equipment and he could actualy be considerd a tank just like PLD and NIN conunterd 3/4s of every attack. anyone ever see this?

Actually, a friend og mine has his counter completely merited and has all counter counter equip.
He subs ninja and can tank pretty damn good. It SUCKS to fight him in balista

Honestly, there are lots of very very calid tanking combonations out there. The existance of two different Utsu abbilities from a subbed NIN makes a LOT of things possiable. I'm waiting to see people try and turn BLU into a tankable class, as Coccoon, Metalic Body, and Pollen together make it very very possiable.

Problem with monk tank is that would be so ungodly expensive its not even funny

Not bad. If a monk goes counter crazy, he doesn't take damage on the attacks, AND repels them right back at the opponent as extra attacks not counted in his main usual attacks. For the hits the monk takes though, they still have a heckload of HP. Especially a Galka monk.
To be honest, that IS pretty damn awesome. Probably expensive, but still pretty awesome.

My friend is a 75 blu and, from watching him party and ballista it would take ALOT of MP to keep those devensive spells up and keep hate /nin. But if you could pull it off it would be pretty cool. Id throw up Daimond Hide as well cause it looks cool and adds more DEF.

Actually I have an awkward combo for a tank.
I am a Paladin, and hold hate well, kinda hard for a NIN/WAR to pull off me if I'm in the right mood.
BUT: I once partied with a NIN/BLM (I know it sounds wierd but it WORKS)
They used their Damaging Spells to do Damage and I coldn't even pull hate off them!! It was NUTS!!!

According to SE, when they first designed mnk, it was meant to tank. Same with sam. Never turned out that way though. Oh well.

With ninja/black mage its technicaly a reallllly good DDget all +1 staffs, but it is very expesnsive

I know a taru nin/blm. He's an amazing tank... gonk Seriously, accidentually cast a curaga III once...mob looked at me for a second then went back to hitting his shadows.

BRD/NIN are good in indoor areas. They have their 2 mazurkas that are on 24 seconds magic timers (can get down to 24 seconds with haste and double marches), since it's indoors then the songs won't be dealing any effects, and neither will it overwrite the marches, but it will give the hate that it usually gives, around 1 provoke for raptor and 2 for chocobo. See a Bard cast mazurka in battle? He can most often usually turn the mob around.

I can take hate from a NIN no problem if I want.
Souleater, Last Resort, and Berserk are all I need, and I can take hate from pretty well any NIN Iv'e pt'd with.
