8:00 a.m.
I yawned a little, rising to my feet. My sleep had been quite restless... I still felt as tired as I had been before lying down. But the sun was already up... and we had to go on forward. I noticed that the fire had died down sometime while we were sleeping... I was surprised we hadn't been attacked.
"Amarene, Haeo... are you awake?" I said, looking over towards them. A strange saucer like object lay on the ground, Amarene resting beside it. Haeo seemed to be sleeping in a very strange posture, almst on his knees, sword tip in ground. Perhaps he was keeping watch.
"Guys, Etain, come on, it's morning already."

I yawned, standing to my feet, feeling a little disoriented. It appeared Isis had already awaken. Etain and Haeo still appeared asleep.
"Hey sleepyhead; welcome back to the living world. I hope you're up to the little task today... if not, I got no idea how we're going to beat this lake unless you can sprout wings and fly."

Haeo opens his eyes and glances over the camp, quickly assessing the situation. He stands up and stretches a little before returning his sword to its scabbard. "Amarene. Get up." He turns to Isis with a strange look in his eyes. "You slept well?" He turns away again and moves to remove evidence of the camp site, burying the ashes from the fire and checking his pack.

I stretched, releasing some of the tension in my muscles. "Yeah... a little," I closed my eyes, mentally chanting the daily ritual of new morning. It was supposed to reassure elven warriors on the battlefield mainly... but I didn't feel too different. I was now, after all, on a journey. "Someone explain the situation to me again. I wasn't exactly completely coherent last night."

Haeo glances at Amarene, indicating that the explanation should come from him. He finishes removing the signs of their night's sleep. He glances around for finishing touches and notices Etain, still sleeping. He walks over and stands a few feet from her head. His eyes show a very faint blue tint among the brown. "Etain. Wake up now." His voice is serious but soft.

I looked at Isis, breathing a small sigh. Even if this worked, this would take a lot of concentration.
"Alright, here's how this is going to work. I managed to retrieve this last night. It's from my world... it was originally from a device we used for protection but I kept it as a keepsafe. Anyways, it's made of very durable material. Strong enough to take heavy hits without breaking. We can't use it to float across the lake because the current is too fast. If we try to ride it down, we'll crash down the falls. So our only way is straight across. We know you know magic... so I'm hoping you have the skill to form a bridge of ice stretching all the way to the other side. And also strong enough to support weight. This saucer can probably hold two people maxiumum safely inside of it. We don't have time to experiment or practice. So to test; we need you to make the bridge. And Haeo will have to safely blast me across the bridge in the saucer first to make sure it can safely transport the rest of you. I'll toss it back if..." I searched for the right words. "I'll toss it back over when I make it to the other side. Okay? Alright." I focused on Isis. "It's on you now. You can start whenever you're ready."

I was hesitant last night, but I remembered what we had all talked about. I was tired of being afraid. I needed to face this. Somehow.
"Alright... here goes," I walked over towards where the bridge had fallen. Where we had almost fallen in the cold, rapid...
"Stop. Stop it Isis." I hissed at myself. Closing my eyes, I focused on the pure serenity of crystal ice, focusing the energies of magic in that pattern.
"Mezra... ethra.... mezra... ethra..." I whispered the ancient elven language of my village, focusing and concentrating. I could feel a darkness creeping over my heart... but I shrugged it away as best as I could. I was making the spell as serene and calm as possible without triggering an overflow... but at the same time I couldn't make the bridge too weak.
"Mezra... ethera... mezra... sethos!" I opened my eyes and flashed my hands outward, creating a small quake. But then, gracefully, almost elegantly, the bridge of ice conjured and swirled and danced into existance. I felt a little exhausted, but other than that, I felt alright.
"It's a little rough Haeo... so you may have to cut over the top with a wind shear or something. But once flat enough I believe it is sturdy enough to transport us."

Haeo walks over to stand by Isis at the edge of the bridge and crouches down. He runs a hand over the ice, the distorted magic flows around him. He smiles slightly. "Good. It looks like this might work. Stand back." He stands up again and draws his sword, holding it in a crossguard position. He closes his eyes and begins to sing softly, the words so soft that they are unintelligible but the smoothness of the song carries. The air around Isis, Amarene and Etain dies to total stillness.
Haeo takes a step foreward, his leading foot less than an inch from the ice. His hair and the grass by his feet begins to wave rapidly as the magic flows around his sword. The air around him ripples and his clothes snap as a sudden gust blasts the grass around him flat. He slashes the sword horizontally, releasing a visible ripple of air that breaks off the irregularities in the bridge, leaving a smooth surface. Several branches crack and fall across the river as the wind strikes them.
Haeo opens his eyes and lowers his sword as the last vestiges of the song fade to silence and the wind begins to stir the leaves of the trees again. "Is that sufficient?"

I ran over to where the ice bridge was formed. Watching it come into existance was truly miraculous.
Running my hand over the surface, I felt the glistening water beginning to form on the outside. Nice and slippery. And smooth. Good.
"Alright, let's test this,' I lined the saucer with what bedding I could find back at my dismantled home and placed it on the bridge. Then, sitting myself comfortably lying with my body curved with the dish, I gave out the word to Haeo. "Alright man; let it rip. Just don't blow me to pieces, alright?"

Haeo nods to Amarene and closes his eyes. The air around him ripples slightly as the warped field of magic bends around him. He raises his sword and the flows gather behind it. He hums quietly and the grass around him begins to ripple in the strengthening wind.
He opens his eyes suddenly and releases a fairly tightly controlled gust of wind with an upward slash. The gust strikes the saucer under the lip and it slides rapidly to the other side, nearly tipping over from the pressure and smacking into the far shoreline soundly.
Haeo takes a deep breath and rests his sword point on the ground with his eyes closed for a moment as the flows of energy return to their 'normal' distorted paths around his body.

The stress on my body was enormous; but somehow, someway, I made it over to the other side safely. But there was a problem; I could feel that I had almost fallen as I had made my way across the bridge of ice; it was too easy to slide one way or the other.
Yelling back across the river, I said "Haeo! It's great but unstable! The lid may lean if you try more than one person!" I tried thinking... calculating... "Shape the ice! Curve the ice with a wind blade!" And with that, I grabbed the saucer and slung it with all my might. I saw it land on the other side, roughly about five to ten feet away from the rest of the group.

I was relieved it had worked... it looked like we finally had a way across. I was happy I had a way to make it up after I had wrecked the bridge...
The saucer flew overhead, landing with a heavy thud behind me. I jerked backwards a little; I hadn't realized how heavy it was until it landed. Amarene's strength surprised me a great deal; it would certainly be an asset on our journey.
I heard Amarene yelling from across the river... something about shaping the ice again. Even with my elven ears it was hard to make out, but I managed to hear everything he said. I wasn't sure if Haeo heard though.
"Haeo, I think we need to shape the ice again. Amarene's right; if we try more than one person, the saucer could slip either way off the bridge." I looked back towards the bridge... it was becoming more slippery by the moment because of the sun. "I'm not sure how much longer it will hold, so we need to act quickly. Afterwards... I'll try the teleportation again to transport you to the side I'm on. It should work easier if I just use it against one person."
