I have 2 parakeets.. a green/yellow...That's my Verde.. he isn't such a sweet little guy, but then again, he's only been here 7 weeks... He just can't get used to people. I don't understand it.. He was from the same cage as my other parakeet, Sesshomaru, who happens to be shades of blue and white.. He isn't exactly crazy about people either, but he doesn't try to bite you to pieces if you hold him. Both of the birds love their cage, though.. If they are out, they will do everything in their power to get back to that cage and get into it, which is funny, because Verde has been trying to figure out how to open the cage doors. And he almost has done it a couple of times.... Wait till these guys are just a little older... Boy are they going to be a handful, literally, I hope!!!! I love my little baby parakeets!!!

Oh the poll... our 1st two birdies... the green/yellow male was Romeo.. the sweetest little guy was about 7yrs old when he died... and Chloe was his mate... she died, eggbound... She was about 6yrs old when she died!!! Parakeets really are love birds,,,,,, these two were mates for life. After Chloe died, Romeo could never take to the new female we got him, Spirit. HE just never liked her very much, she knew it and well, they just didn't get along... When Romeo died, though, it broke Spirit's heart and she died about 2 weeks later. crying crying crying crying crying crying crying Isn't that sad???

I hope my 2 new birdies live long happy lives together!!!!! blaugh

Verde has been very busy lately.. He has almost figured out how to open the little side doors to the cage. and now he is trying to figure out how to open the bigger ones. To keep them from doing this, starting at 7:00 in the morning, I have started letting them out of the cage for about 40 minutes a day to roam around the living room floor. They are learning their names and will chirp when I call each of their names. Verde is actually the smarter of the two and at the end of their playtime, if I tell Verde to go home, he goes back to the cage and will go in if the doors are open. Sesshomaru is more stubborn. He will not enter the cage unless it is through the upper door. Sesshomaru knows his name and he is the more affectionate one.. At least he doesn't bite me if I do hold him, but... Well, it's a toss up, actually... Your opinion.. which sounds more intelligent to you?

Well folks it's been a month since I last updated you on my babes.. They are not really getting any bigger, but they are getting smarter. Verde is learning how t o open the gates on the cage, the little sneak, but he can't get it to stay open. HA!.. Once I open the gates, or someone else does (and next time, Tohma, at least tell me you open the gates, please!!!), they just take their own sweet time and come out, jump on the floor and walk around like they own the living room!!!!

Now, though, after about an hour, if I have put the cage on the floor, and leave the gates wide open, they just waltz themselves back in and are happy to be home. 4laugh

Verde doesn't like to be held- at all.... Noone can hold him... he bites anyone that tries to hold him.... Sesshomaru is a sweetheart,, he will try to get away, but can be held, will sometimes sit on hands and never bits.... I love my Sesshy!!!!! I love Verde too, and talk to both of them all the time, but Verde has the hot latino temper that his name evokes!!! Sesshy has the more tame, Japanese demeanor.... like his namesake, as long as you don't get him upset!!!!!! 4laugh

We had a terrible loss this morning crying crying crying crying crying crying .

I went into the living room to say good morning to Sesshomaru and Verde crying and, and crying , there, wedged between the food dish and the water dish, crying lay Verde... lifeless crying crying crying crying crying crying .

His ladder was dislodged, and one leg was in the food dish and the ladder was hanging off the side of the cage off 1 hook. crying Verde's little neck was broken!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I picked up his limp little body and carried it into the kitchen, wrapped him in a colorful paper towel, and he is laying there, until Tohma and Nori get home from school. Then we will plan his funeral. Potemkin is writing a requiem for him as I am writing this thread.

I will miss my little Verde, he wasn't even 6 months old!!!!! crying crying crying crying crying crying crying crying crying crying crying crying
