Bastien walked out onto the field for the second time against the same opponent. He couldn't say he had been doing well, but he was starting to get the feel for this battling thing. He squared off against Skalis and was, for the first time, confident.

Bastien managed to avoid the hypnotic stare and realized that this could be his chance to catch up in the battle, which explained his extra vigor.
