This is the play thread for my City of the Spider Queen Campaign! There are 2 spots left, so if you are interested, please visit The Character Sheet Thread!
Among the most beautiful and graceful creatures of Faerun, these subterranean elves are also among the most deadly of peoples. Like the goddess they worship, they climb along the webs of vengeance and chaos to create terror everywhere they go. Evil and malicious to the core, very few dark elves have ever sought redemption, quite content to live in there stone castles and cast their wicked magic. But... what happens when these malignent elves start raiding the surface, why would they come out of their holes? This is what a prominent ruler in the Dalelands want's you to find out!

You have recieved and urgent summons to the Hall of Randal Morn, ruler of Daggerdale. Randal Morn has goverened the war-torn dale for nearly four years now. Under his wise guidance, mush of the damage done during the decades long Zhent occupation has been repaired, and the Folk of Daggerdale have begun to prosper again. The heroic tale of of Randal Morn's resistance to Zhent occupation and the restoration of his throne is widely known throughout the Dalelands.
The Lord of Daggerdale does not stand on ceremony, and greets you himself at the doors to his hall. Leading you to a study lines with bookshelves, he orders refreshments. "Thank you for coming so quickly," he begins, "I'd heard of your company passing through the area, and you have the reputation of being couragous problem solvers. Well... I think I have a problem that needs solving."
He looks at each of you, then begins is tale. "Seven days ago, a band of drow raided farms and free hold about ten miles south of here. A number of people were killed, and the mauraders caused much damage. Local militia tracked the drow band to the vicinity of an old set crypts on the western edge of Dagger Hills. Rumor has it that within those crypts is a passage to the Underdark.
"Three nights about, the drow returned and caused even more damage,. I think it's about time some experianced and capable adventurers put a stop to these raids. We haven't had trouble with drow in Daggerdale for hundreds of years, and I have no idea what has stirred them up now. Can you help me?"
((Ah! Welcome to the intrigue that is City of the Spider Queen, you are free to ask Questions of Lord Morn, just remember to put OCC in (()) or whatever you prefere, and bold actual dialogue. If you want to make a check, then just state it in OCC and roll! NPC reactions will always be in Red.))

I look at the Lord of Daggerdale, listening to his story, and as he finishes, I speak up. "Hmm...this sounds like it could be potentially dangerous. Will there be some sort of payment for our help?

"I can offer you up to five thousand gold pieces worth of healing and supplied from the Temple of Tyr. You may use it to outfit yourselves before you go, use the services when you return, or split it, it's up to you. For recompense, I can offer 5,000 gold pieces, as long as it's guaranteed that the drow will not return."

Ugan Deepsteel looked over to his orc companion and frowned. "How many drow are we talkin' about, eh?" He said, turning back to Lord Morn.

"Several of our militia are trained Rangers, and they said, from the tracks, the party consisted of about 12 drow. They attacked farmers, and very little was taken, it seems they were engaging in slaughter rather then thievery. At least 20 have been killed, 7 others are missing, they either fled somewhere else, or we were unable to find the bodies."

Krag Skullspitter laughed and slapped Ugan on the back. "Hah! Ugan worries too much. Twelve will not stop Krag's axe , not even for a second."
Ugan Deepsteel looked at him grimly. "They're drow. We can't go in there expecting an easy fight. These aren't goblins, for Moradin's sake! If I've learned anything in the service of Dugmaren Brightmantle, it's to never think you've already won before you actually have."

I smile at the sound of all that gold. I look around at the others who have been summoned, seeing who I will be working with on this job. "Well, that certainly sounds like a nice sum of gold. I'm in. I do think that before we form a plan, we should probably get a little closer to where the Drow were spotted. It was a crypt, right? I don't much like crypts, but it doesn't surprise me that any trouble can be traced to that."

Morn nodded, "Here," he handed the rogue a scroll, "Here is a map to the area that the drow were seen in. The place is call the Dordrien Crypts... a very old place, and it might be a good idea to tread lightly. As I said, the enterance to the Underdark in within the crypts."

Ugan grimaced. "A crypt? I've entered many a crypt in my day, not one of them a lively place to be."

Ugan grins. "Well, no one ever said drow were tha most predictable race in Faerun. Perhaps they just felt like killin' some surface-dwellers for fun? Heh. No matter what their reasoning was, they'll pay fer what they've done."
The heavily-armored dwarf clears his throat and looks around at the rest of the people Lord Morn gathered. "Well, I suppose we should all introduce ourselves if we're gonna be traveling together. I be Ugan Deepsteel, xothor in the service of the Gleam in the Eye, Dugmaren Brightmantle. Xothor, for those of ye who don't speak me native language, means 'one who seeks knowledge'. I travel the world seeking to increase me skill with the casting of rune magic, the magical art that unlocks the powers of the ancient runes once harnessed by dwarven spellcasters. I also be skilled at metalworking and stonecarving. This over here," he points over to the orc standing behind him, "is my friend Krag Skullsplitter. Now, don't be 'fraid of 'im just 'cus he be an orc. He's truly a gentle fella with a heart o' gold. Just don't make him angry!"
Krag smiles, showing his yellowish teeth and large tusks. "Hello. Krag will kill your enemies for you if you ask nicely."

Staying silent the entire time and taking note of everything said as well as reaction. The three shadows in the corner of the room begins to stir, out of the group of black robes appears a pair of red eyes. "Hmm, this sounds rather exciting. The underdark, I've heard many stories about it, but never imagined that I might actually be there myself. Though crypts on the other hand has been almost home for me and my group." Bowing to everyone, The man with the red eyes wearing the hood and cowl looks back up to them all, "My name is Dimitri Fate, youngest of the 3 Fate brothers and leader of this little shock force. On my left is my advisor as well as my information gatherer, Brendon Heat. Finally the big one behind me is Tinner, my personal bodyguard and second-in-command. It will be a pleasure working with all of you. *smirks under the cowl*"
