Upon entering the VR Room for the first time, DS shuddered. It was a little cold in there, but that wasn't what bothered her. It was bare. A practice-sized layer was placed in the center, with a plain white chair at each side, but no other furniture was present. There was a small shelf mounted on the back wall, empty.
"Cozy."
Suzuka, who sat poised on DS's arm, tilted her head consideringly. "Yes."
DS blinked. "Really?"
"It is a place to do battle, and to move freely. The decor matters little."
"Hm. I suppose that's true."
Businesslike as usual, the angel gave an single approving nod. "This room will be useful."
"Then by all means, let's make sure to make good use of it." Pausing for a moment, DS wavered. "I... I haven't been a good deus, have I?"
"Technique can be improved. Determination and heart are more valuable."
"And?"
"You have ample amounts of both," Suzuka replied without hesitation. "Now, let's put them to work."
"Let's."

DS shook her head, then placed her visor over her eyes squarely. "Ready Suzuka?"
The angel had been sitting near the edge of the layer, motionless. At the sound of her Deus' voice however, she rose gracefully. "Ready."
"Layer Randomize."
The layer wavered around Suzuka, flickering through numerous landscapes before settling into one. Blank white walls faced her sides, with the only path ahead ending a few feet away. The walls themselves looked to be at least three feet high, far too high to jump over.
"A maze." It was an unusual challenge, which had its emphasis on speed. No fighting was done at all; it was a race to the finish.
"It's not just speed, but memorization, learning. A test of the mind as well as the body."
Suzuka smiled. It seemed her deus was learning after all. "Timer set, starting... NOW."
Barely after the words left her mouth she was gone, down the first corridor, the second. It was a little tough to keep herself steady through the constant turns and twists, and at her first dead end she nearly careened into a wall.
Biting back a smile, DS shifted in her seat. "Be careful. Don't sacrifice mobility for speed."
"Understood." That time she didn't wait to speak before she started moving again, though a touch slower. It was easier to keep track of the different pathways, and the next time she reached a blocked corridor she simply backflipped, head over heels, and set down the way she came.
"Time."
"Thirty-five-point-two seconds." The visor set down again, DS bent over. "A three second improvement, if not more. You're getting better."
"May we go again?"
Surprised, she nodded. "Sure, why not?" Jamming the visor on once more, the deus nodded. "Ready?"
"Timer set..."

*In the middle of training, suddenly the Practice Spheres disappear and Suzuka falls to the Layer, unable to move without her power source. *A message flashes across the Controller Headset's viewscreen.* !!SYSTEM ERROR!!
