http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZKGmRJuRP4So here is the opening (to the tune of tuneless japanese pop, disappointing stuff) of the anime version of Power Puff Girls. Anyone know how the anime fan community - ie the guys who lambasted Teen Titans because it 'copied' anime - reacted to this, a japan version of an american show that partly parodied japan's cartoon output? That sound in the distance? That's Bleedman furiously masturbating all his way through the night. dramallama rofl

So the first segment got posted on youtube.
...wow that was lame. that was LAAAAAAAAAAAME.
They stop in the middle of the fight...to have ice cream. And when I say "They" I mean EVERYONE. The Powerpuff Girls, Mojo, Professor Utonium and his kid Ken, The Mayor and Miss Bellum. Everybody has Ice cream.
The transformation sequence is just way too long, and this is coming from a guy that likes his transformations sequences long.

Oh my god! It's soooo cuuute! Gah my eyes!
I saw some of the earlier trailers for this. I don't know what to make of it though, I guess I'd have to actually see an episode. Not real high on my list of things to do though.

Want to talk about retarded?
The wi-fi content filter at the coffee shop I'm at right now won't let me look at anything hosted on youtube! Something about forbidden content!?!
The Japanese PPG clip is a parody of a kid's show, right?

Craig McCracken's PPG as re-imaged by Japanese animators should not be that risque. In that one sequence, I could not see anything remotely objectionable.
While some of the other transformation samples featured what would be considered swimsuit 'panty' shots, I think your coffee shop's Wi-Fi ISP is out of line on this one, Max
Back on topic, I'm still shocked that McCracken and Cartoon Network sold the rights to this Japanese producer. What I've seen of the first episode shows nothing of real merit in the new program. I much prefer the original series and the movie.

Warms my heart to see three of North America's belurved saturday morning superheroines transmogrified into fodder for all the Humbert-Humberts out there. ~_~
I've still got one of my ears buried in the anime community. Reactions to the show have been pretty mixed. People either love it or loathe it, for all the reasons you can think of.
My response is at this rate we'll see anime'd versions of all the popular kid's shows. Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends; He-Man; The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Hm. How about an anime'd version of Beavis and Butthead?
When are we going to see a sentai version of Batman? This is a serious question I'm thinking of posing to both Toho and DC comics.

I recall two years ago there was a Japanese website that featured anime styled versions of the four primary South Park characters. Since I can't read Japanese, I never found out if those were just fan art or plans for an adaptation a la the PPG anime. The fan art is long gone, sadly. They were very nice concepts.

I saw that once (if we're thinking about the same thing...) and I'm pretty certain it was just fanart. Like that giant cache of Mario images where the Mario brothers are built like Fist of the North Star dudes. EDIT: Were these what you were talking about?

*Goes against the guild's grain*
I.... kind of like it. O_o
I am sad that the original PPG song isn't played though. It's WAY better than that j-pop crap they've got playing for it.

Ever-Infamous Kojiro-san EDIT: Were these what you were talking about? Indeed. Thank you. Those are part of what I remember. The original website had twice as many images.

Loki omg! I am sad that the original PPG song isn't played though. It's WAY better than that j-pop crap they've got playing for it. I am more disappointed that they didn't get some proper J-Pop for the opening theme - bands like L'Arc-En-Ciel, Orange Range, Morning Musume or Shonen Knife (who wrote that J-Rock PPG song some of you might recall from the early 00's). I think it say something about the PPG animu's budget, methinks. The South Park anime images are from a couple of japanese fan-comics from some time back. One of them I believe was pretty homoerotic too. Hooray!

I can't decide if I like it or not. I like the original because it's funny and adds an innocent twist to a violent show. This one looks cute and fun but they probably got rid of the violence buy adding these transformation scene and magical weapons. I mean, when the girls kicked Mojo in the face, there was blood and broken teeth. That show looks like hearts, lollypops and bad guys beeing blasted away innocently à la Team Rocket.

Well my only concern right now is that series one of 2k5 Doctor Who lands in Japan this Fall. BBC Japanified the logo, now I await the evil that will be Dalek-tan.
