So, we don't discuss antique books a lot in this guild. I'm going to force you to. >> You cannot resist the Ichigo.

Anyway, here I thought I'd set up a little discussion for those interested in antique books and possible compile a few resources.

What I really need help with right now is a book I bought at a flea market this weekend.

The book is called "Emilie the Peacemaker," by Mrs. Thomas Geldart.

By all appearances it was printed around 1859, that being the date printed on the title page. From what I've found, the first edition was published in 1851, so I'm guessing that 1859 is the year my book was printed.

It was published by Sheldon & Company of New York. The publisher was bought by American Book company between 1890 and 1900, so that helps more to date the book. :3

So far I've not been able to find any trace of a copy of the book printed around this time period, so I don't really know a lot about it.

I plan to have an expert look at it eventually and possibly have it appraised in the near future, but in the meantime if you know anything about this book or the publisher or could direct me to a site or forum that would be helpful to me, I would love you forever. :3

I'll pass the title and information along to my mother. She has mysterious sources for antique books (that was her store's speciality), and I'll let you know what she finds. Do you want to know the worth, the history of the book/author, or just anything?

x3 Sweet.

I'm looking for anything at all about it. I know almost nothing, and it's such an interesting item.

I know Kessinger Publishing did a re-printing of it in 2004 (aprox. June to September), it is however, not copyrighted in the United States (as far as I am aware, but that would be rather odd because they did do a printing in New York for a time, as is confirmed by your book).

I do know that she did at least four other books:

--Glimpses of our Island Home (March 21,1857)
--May Dundas (November 5,185 cool
--Memorials of Samuel Gurney (August 15,1857)
--Stories of Scotland and its Adjacent Islands (February 28,1852)
